SciFly II Alpha Demo Video

posted February 9th, 2009 6:04 AM EST by arn in Shooter, Upcoming Games

Licentia Software posted the alpha video of their upcoming sequel: SciFly II.

SciFly II will place the fast-paced aerial combat of its predecessor into a truly massive world where pure exploration is as fun as the action. Conquer chunks of this world to increase your in-game wealth and invest in customizing your aircraft for greater weapons, armor and boosters.

The gameplay video shows the action:

Licentia Software release SciFly: Dogfight [App Store] back in October. No word on when this new version will be available.

Update: The developer says it won't be coming for 3-4 months.

    Hi,
Thanks so much for covering SciFly II. We hope to release the full game in about 3 or 4 months. It's a long time off, but we will be sure to post updates when we reach checkpoints in the development. There are a few more details to be found about SFII over at Slide To Play.

Well, looks good but you can't really go up or down yourself (as I see?).
And, if you steer it's a bit.. not the way you want because you'll go too far or not far enough.

That's what I see in this video.
But I also see: GREAT graphics:)!

I was recording the video on the iPhone simulator because I don't have a decent video camera. You can absolutely move and up and down when playing for real, I was just limited to the touch screen controls with the mouse. It was also pretty much impossible to engage with enemies without those controls, so that's why there was very little action.
If you want to check out how SciFly: Dogfight's controls worked, that's available on the AppStore. You can even try it out with SciFly: Lite for free.

are the engines supposed to be on fire? I would expect a sci-flying fighter jet to be propelled by some anti-gravity or atleast jets not plumes of fire.
The plane itself looks generic, hope it's a placeholder model for something a real artist worked on.

    Hi again.
Thanks for the feedback about the thrusters. You're right that just regular flames is kinda mismatching... I just slapped together recently. Honestly there weren't any type of flames at all just 2 days ago :)
The plans for the game include very much upgradeable thrusters, the visual effect of the different options will probably be different exhausts, some blue some red.. some... who knows? :)

The shaders on the water look great, and the new recticle is a big improvement. I pretty much just stuck with the lock-on missiles ship in the first one. Hopefully the others will be more satisfying now.
