I own all tower defense games (except Sentinel) and I'm astonished that only Fieldrunners has really made a mark on the app store. Personally I don't see how this game is way better than games such as geodefense and 7 Cities. They have different approaches and their own personal TD touch, but in terms of replayability, Fieldrunners is probably the weakest of them all. Graphics-wise this game is the best no doubt. But I think the developers think that just because it's an open field type of TD without paths, that it translates to more variety and replay value. Wrong. The replayability is always directly proportional with the number of maps and the progressing difficulty. With Fieldrunners, you only have 3 maps. 7 Cities has 7, The Creeps has 8, and geodefense has 30 (10 per difficulty but 30 distinct maps/paths in all). Despite having an open field, as soon as you've finished the game, you find no motivation in changing the strategy of how you create the path the second time you play it. Let's face it. The strategy isn't that deep anyway. Just make sure you twirl the enemies around and reserve the strong towers along the paths of the planes. Having said that, how else could you change your strategy the 2nd time you play it? That means low replay value. The other two modes do little in increasing the replay value. There's just Extended mode which grants you 2 more weapons, and Endless mode which is just that. Developers need to give this game a totally new mode, and maybe another new maps. And playing 100 waves all the time is just too long. Right now my fave TD's are geodefense and 7 Cities. Coming next is The Creeps, then Fieldrunners.

Sure, but who cares about 30 maps when you're forced to a fixed path or simple strategy? The whole reason why Fieldrunners is fun is that you have to build your own maze/map. That *is* the strategy, and it's thus infinitely replayable. Also, with the latest update they put out, the other modes have different configurations, need different strategies and so are essentially like new maps! Rocks!

I personally like geoDefense better. There is just more playtime wih 30 maps instead of 3 that you get with Fieldrunners. Fieldrunners is also way too easy once you figure out how to beat it. Fieldrunners is way better looking though.

Other good TD apps include 7 Cities, Sentinel, Besiegement and geoDefense which are all a little more hardcore and have more depth in terms of tower upgrades than Fieldrunners. Fieldrunners is a steal at this price, but you should look at the others I listed as well.
