Gameloft Releases 'Terminator Salvation' Trailer, Announces 'Sherlock Holmes' Movie Rights

posted April 28th, 2009 6:14 PM EST by Eli Hodapp in Action, Shooter, Upcoming Games

terminator_salvation_3Gameloft's Terminator Salvation is a highly anticipated game based on the movie of the same name that we've been keeping a very close eye on.

By controlling both John Connor, leader of the human resistance and Marcus Wright, a terminator who believes himself to be human, players will battle SkyNet in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.

This afternoon Gameloft released a gameplay trailer which should leave fans of the Terminator series hungry for its release, as well as piquing the interest of anyone looking for an action packed third person shooter.

Last week we previewed a development build of this graphically impressive title. Terminator Salvation is scheduled for release during the first week of May at a premium price-point of $7.99 to $9.99. Look forward to detailed coverage as more information becomes available to us.

Meanwhile, Gameloft announced today that they had acquired the mobile game rights to another upcoming movie, Sherlock Holmes.

A dynamic new portrayal of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous character, “Sherlock Holmes” sends Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his trusted colleague Watson (Jude Law) on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy England.

Given Gameloft's strong performance with iPhone games, it seems certain that this title will also be coming to the iPhone and iPod touch as well later this year.

I'm not even a fan of the Terminator series (only the 2nd one was amazing), but that game looks freakin' sweet.

It shows me that you can definitely make a great Grand Theft Auto 4 port for the iPhone. That would be great. Payback was fun for an hour or so, but the graphics and playability are pretty bad. A GTA clone that looks like the Terminator trailer would be frickin' awesome.

Gameloft is now becoming the EA of iPhone games. Which is weird because EA Mobile should be the EA of iPhone games.

Gameloft seems to be pretty comfortable with building all of their games on top of their Hero of Sparta engine. Not that it's wrong for them to do because plenty of studios do the same thing, but I don't think the HoS engine is really impressive compared to other games out there.

    gameloft rocks!
Almost all my favour games are from gameloft, Hero of Sparta, Brother In Arms, Real Soccer 2009 and Let's Golf
Fantasic... start to save money for this game now. Hope it won't be expensive like Assassin's Creed

I just hope gameloft makes something with some depth. So far everything has been short games. Although I've only played 4 or 5 of theirs. Just seems to me they're the quick and easy devs with polish.

Gameloft was the EA of mobile games for years...Ok, they didn´t bomb the market with senseless sequels, but copied there own games a hundred times giving them new names and slightly better graphics. At least they did that for the J2ME market. Their games on other mobile platforms (N-Gage, iPhone) have been great so far, but they again develope a tendency on doing it like on mobile. (Hero of Sparta -> Assassins Creed (-> Tomb Raider ;P ), Brothers in Arms -> Terminator Salvation) Right now, don´t mind because those titles were great and far better than an average iphone game. I just hope they keep up this great work.

Taking an existing game engine and reusing it in an altered and/or upgraded form for a new game is not "copying", and is used by a wide variety of developers.

I don't think Terminator uses the HoS engine, but rather uses the BiA engine.

And, is anyone else kinda taken aback by that Sherlock Holmes game description? If it turns out to be an action heavy game...what a misuse of that license that would be. The adventure game genre and Holmes seem to go more hand in hand, unless, of course, Gameloft will go more "nu school" adventure as seen in games like Shenmue, Indigo Prophecy and that last Sherlock Holmes game (The Awakened).
