Flood-It! is Free, Fun, and Frustrating

posted May 5th, 2009 2:38 PM EST by arn in Free, iPhone games, iPod touch games, Puzzle

766259jpgLabPixie's Flood-It! [App Store] is a free ad-supported game that can offer you a surprisingly fun challenge.

The developer summarizes the gameplay:

Flood It! is a simple yet addictive strategy game in which you have to flood the whole game board with one color in less than the allowed steps. You start from the top left corner and progress by selecting one of the colored balls on the left. When you change your current area color, every adjacent square with the same color also changes, that way you can flood other areas on the board. Select from 3 sizes of the board and try to flood-it in the least amount of steps!

The basic game, of course, has been done before in Flash as well as in the App Store, but this is a free and well implemented version of the game.

This looks interesting, but the gameplay seems very like "Infection". And I suppose for an extra $0.99, it would be better to get a No Ad game, with better gameplay.

you are making a big assumption that infection is a better game.

As I wrote you arn one of these days iFiller is a nice version of this kind of game and you play it against the iPhone. Chromazone is good too (colorblind aware, local and online scores and you play to score more by using less moves and linking as much tiles as possible in one move).

I've been playing this one pretty steadily for over a week. It's become a bathroom favourite :) (Also it's colourblind-aware, which is nice.)

Love this game, I'm surprised it took you so long to cover it! I'll have to look at some of the others that have been suggested, but I definitely recommend this!

Well after downloading Flood-It! I can say that infection is certainly worth the extra $1. No Ads, and, in my opinion, better gameplay, and a nicer GUI.

I've been playing this for a couple weeks and I'm so addicted. It's great for quick games that can be interrupted. I gotta check my stats. Not doing too well. But I did pick a favorite color scheme. Tip: go with contrasting colors that don't blind you. Oh, and good luck on hard.

Obviously it's personal preference, but the minimalist approach of flood-it goes a long way for me.

Yeah, I discovered this one sometime last week. My record is something along the lines of 2 and 30. It's pathetic. Cool game though.

This game is great. I had no idea its been around since 2007!? I came across it on the iPhone so its new to me. Flipflood is a good one I like but more like paintbuckets with the pictures. Chromazone also good one. I never get into match-3 games but color puzzle games are great. Any others?

My best on igoogle flood-it Large (50) is 37. Winning (getting under 50) is easy but doing under 40 is challanging for me. A great game.
