Taito Corporation Reveals 'Bubble Bobble' (Correction: 'Bust-a-Move') Coming to iPhone

Japanese developer Taito, recently known for the amazing Space Invaders Infinity Gene, posted two images on their Facebook page earlier today revealing Bubble Bobble as their next title for the iPhone.

Update: It's actually Bust-a-Move, see the previous post for more information.

The first image shows Bub and an apple "together at last":

This screenshot is slightly more revealing, showing what appears to be some kind of background image, and several sprites:

Bubble Bobble is an arcade game that was originally released by Taito in 1986. In classic Bubble Bobble, players control a small dragon who moves along platforms, jumps to other platforms, and blows bubbles at enemies. Bubbles capture enemies for a brief period, and can be used to jump off of to reach other areas in the game. A port of Bubble Bobble has existed on nearly every console imaginable, and even some more obscure platforms like Texas Instruments calculators.

Bubble Bobble has also seen several sequels, so it's really anyone's guess what Taito is working on. Space Invaders Infinity Gene [App Store] is one of the most impressive re-imagining of a retro game I've seen in a long time, so Taito has set the bar amazingly high for themselves.

If Bubble Bobble receives the same treatment as Space Invaders, it's going to be very hard to pass up.

    I'm not sure if they will be trying to do what they did with Infinite Gene for Bubble Bobble. Looking at the few sprites, my guess is that they are just making us a Bubble Bobble game for iPhone and not trying to re-invent it. Either way though, this series would work perfectly for iPhone, I'm really excited for more info/screens and I'll be eagerly anticipating its release!

    Wow.. I was waiting for this day to come, everytime I came to my cousin's house, they had Bubble Bobble to play and well, yeah. We beat the boss several times. But that was back then, if they had co-op in this version, it would be awsome.. :)

    Are you sure that it's not Puzzle Bobble that is been ported across? I don't remember lots of different colored bubble in Bubble Bobble (but I am getting old and my memory is going fast).
    Either way, it's a buy from me.

    Oh my god!!! f*ck yeah!!! I used to play the SH!T out of this game on the NES. Day one buy for me, I don't care if they even give us the graphics of the old NES system, I just want this game!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    The second graphic has taito 1994,2009 that says to me puzzle bobble. If it was bubble it would be 1986,2009. Tough, gutted
