New Maps and Weapon in 'Eliminate Pro'

posted December 20th, 2009 2:20 AM EST by arn in iPhone games, iPod touch games

dualcannonNgmoco has managed to push new content to their free game Eliminate Pro outside of Apple's updates system. So players who launch their game today will be greeted with a New Content download that delivers a new map, a new weapon, and a map reskin:

  • Runoff (Map) - Get wet in RUNOFF, our new map that features both land and water elements. Gain elevation in this vertically stacked map to snipe at players below – or dive into the water to escape fire and snag powerups. Runoff is great for gravity gunning, jumping, sniping, and swimming.
  • Dualcannon Prototype (Weapon) - The DualCannon packs two powerful blasts dealt in quick succession. More damage per plasma node than its Plasma Cannon cousin, but it takes longer to reload.
  • Frostbite (Map) - A holiday reskin of the Bedlam map.

Here's a video of the new veritical map, Runoff:

Glad they updated content but I'm not impressed with the prototype cannon & the new map runoff was is so spread out the two times I played it no one even reached the frag limits. infact the highest frag limit I acheived was only 7 my 2nd time around. I'm sure that will improve once I get to knowy way around it =)

    Hmm
I dont think im gonna bother loading this game back on until one of the updates addresses the balance. That is what stopped me playing... not the lack of maps.

Also... now that NOVA has proven to be an incredibly well put together online experience i would much rather pay for a game i can play as much as i like... as opposed to the watered down version of something that could have been good approach ngmoco seem to be taking these days.

Lets just hope they don't try and go down the same route with Rolando 3.

Eliminate 'eliminated' their chances of dominating the mobile online FPS arena. Their crazy upgrade system, cell re-charging system, and overall LIMITED experience for the average player destroys the game. It's smooth and you can play quite seamlessly over a solid 3G connection, so it's unfortunate they handicapped their great product to such a disappointing degree.

NOVA was smart to not discourage people from playing their game through these awful, limiting systems. First-time players can enjoy the full game immediately and get hooked on playing.

Modern Combat has potential, but their attempts at multiplayer have been greatly crippled by terrible bugs and internet-connection capability issues. I would prefer a game as smooth, fast-paced, and painless as NOVA, with the Modern Combat weapons and characters. Potential, but they've hurt themselves a lot with terrible upgrades.

This anti Eliminate movement of many people really is a poor move. This game really pushed the limits. Hey, you can play via 3G...this is so stunning.
Ok, the matching isn't ideal but I still think, they gave us something fantastic with Eliminate. But just because it's free, it doesn't hurt your personal feelings to bash this title...

I'm sick of all the negative comments on this site. spoilt brats

I for one am happy with any updates to this game that I play for FREE.
I'm appreciative of the work that ngcomo put into this when I'm sure they're getting ready for Christmas at this busy time of year.

Enjoy Eliminate, enjoy N.O.V.A - whatever, just stop with the bitching

@ngmoco Haters make the world go round. As long as people hate...you must be doing something right. I for one am happy to see your continued commitment to ELIMINATE and the update is great news. I am enjoying it and still have no issues with ELIMINATE. I look forward to see more in the future.

Sure N.O.V.A. is a great game in its own right but it will most likely see one to two updates and then it will collect dust like all other Gameloft games. Proven fact.

    Thank you ngmoco! ;)

Eliminate must pay for their rather expensive dedicated servers. I'm almost certain NOVA doesn't have any servers, just like MC:S didn't. Their are pluses to this strategy of Gameloft, but their are minuses as well.

That prototype weapon is terrible. Absolutely terrible. It requires level 17. Only an idiot would use that gun at level 17 or above. That's like a level 5 gun, at best.

Keep in mind that Gameloft doesn't offer 3g Network play either. Eliminate does and that is important to some people. Some people do own iPhones, even though it seems like more TA members have iPod touches.

@Krispod Check the ELIMINATE thread since it has started until today and i bet you lose count of how often you see the Dev(s) interact with the community to make this game better constantly. they have constantly tweaked/tested and have provided updates. ngmoco has been with us at TA every step of the way.

All Gameloft games combined haven't even came close to this type of dedication. When was the last time you have even seen a Gameloft related game Dev speak of an update to better any of they're games? Seriously I'm not arguing with you but facts are facts and your post really has zero credibility for stating what has been happening. In my honest opinion you have already been proved wrong. ;)

I havent bought NOVA, I will wait till it goes down to 99c, eventually all of them from Gameloft does.

Eliminate Pro is one of the best games i have on the iPhone , but I have to say the Frostbite level sucks big time. you cant bloody move in that level.

+1 for all rational discussion. Just because there's a new kid on the block doesn't make the old one suck. You don't HAVE to pick a side and dedicate your life to it. They have different strengths, different weaknesses, for different styles of play. I'm playing both. Crazy concept, I know.

Matching in Eliminate was crappy for a while after the update, but recently I've been really well matched with people actually at both my rank and level, with glorious fun as a result. It's also been great to watch different styles of play evolve with different weapon and armor combos. Hope ngmoco keeps at it.

Well, I suppose I'll add my small change to the melting pot of opinion: )
I think they are both very good on-line experiences with their individual strengths and weaknesses. Imo, NOVA really hits the spot with limitless free play and larger more interesting maps. As I start to master the art of Sniper, I begin to enjoy it more and more...hehehe. Obviously some pretty crucial elements are missing, but the eternal optimist in me has the feeling that Gameloft will follow through (haha) with some up-dates this time. As for Eliminate - I do like that matches are always focused with an ending in sight, instead of running around in perpetual circles blasting peoples heads off until your eyes start to hurt. But, right now neither have 2 on 2 Co-op, which would lift them onto another level of game play entirely!

WISHING EVERYONE LOTS OF FESTIVE CHEER: )

eliminate is much better than nova 1000x better

NOVA rules first of all. Period.

BUT, this new map is awesome, tho true frag limits aren't being reached.

Eliminate beats Nova in controls and online over 3G.
The fact I must have wifi is HUGE!
I can play others without restriction anytime in Eliminate.

map is cool, new weapon is just another plasma cannon(big deal) this dual version should just be an upgrade for the regular plasma cannon in my opinion. They need to create an ALL NEW weapon, what's next A vaporizer ultra?(it will shoot yellow beams?) Plus I am noticing a whole lot of new glitches per se. I somehow can walk on walls in knox's main room(no I did not have a jet pack) I played six matches that did not have any HUD on the screen. I couldn't change weapons jump see my health weapon etc.. it was all just a blank screen. The new map is cool though.

What are the balance issues in eliminate pro? Being a casual player, I get to upgrade 1.5 guns and 1 armor so I don't really know how the guns compare.

Comparing Eliminate Pro to N.O.V.A. is like comparing a Toyota to a Ferrari. After playing the first 3 level's of N.O.V.A., I would be willing to pay 12.99 for it. Eliminate Pro is overpriced at Free. I already deleted Eliminate Pro from my Iphone 3gs. This is a landslide victory for N.O.V.A.. Real Racing vs Need for Speed Shift is a better discussion than this. At least those two games are close in quailty.

I think the hate for Elinate is well justified. It's very unbalanced, mediocre game overall, and has a very shameful DLC system...$30 for a full refill? Seriously Ngmoco? Eh, I'm sure there were people stupid enough to pay that much money.

NGMOCO is wayyyyyyy overrated here in this forum. They have one hit the locoroco spin off and that's it! all their games are decent-average. Eliminate does not do the quake engine justice and I feel it's a crappy FPS that only benefited from being 1st and lots of NGMOCO fanboys bitting tooth and nails to kid themselves that the game is good! Pity!

Idk why everyone is bashing eliminate. I challange anyone to name another quality game "For FREE", that has such dedicated admins/Devs that update content on the fly for their fans. I mean come on they even gave us a map just for the holiday season. No one forces you to pay to play and I for one enjoy being able to play bots when I'm not able to play online, name a $7.00 game that let's you do that.

If Eliminate price is $6.99, one time payment for unlimited energy .. then I guess the bashing will be a bit less ..

what could be a potential great mobile FPS has been damaged by bad pricing strategy ..

of course it's free .. NGMOCO definitely hired a great consultant out there .. they managed to con their consumer and some of them really happy about it ..

What do you mean? I can play N.O.V.A as many times as I want to. Anyways, I like both games but N.O.V.A's multiplayer maps bet Eliminates maps by a mile. I like Eliminate, I just wish their maps were bigger and had different environments, Eliminates maps all feel to closely the same, they need to make some outside maps that are much more open. Eliminate's controls could use some work as well. I hate how the guns keep on moving after your hand had stop moving. It is like they have a mind of their own. Anyways, this update looks good can't wait to play it.

Well N.O.V.A has a whole entire campaign. So, instead of playing bots on the same little tiny maps over and over again you could play a well done campaign. Plus N.O.V.A has multiplayer maps that you can play as many times as you want. And N.O.V.A's maps are superior to Eliminate's maps. I like both games but N.O.V.A to me feels more like a console level game , Eliminate reminds of a game that I would have played ten years ago.

So why condem them for having a smart business model & wanting to make money. How dare they produce a quality product and offer it to everyone for free thus allowing consumers the option to invest in their product to enhance their overall experience. People are spoiled by the small price tag games list for on the iPhone which is understood since most titles are a shadow of a console port at best. But when a dev comes out with a great product and attempts to profit from it people want to flame them for it. The very same who were such loyal supporters in the begining, however since the honeymoon is over and the latest title has hit the scene the rats are leaving the ship.

How can people complain about eliminate so much!! It's really ridiculous, the game has great controls, great connection, and you can play it all day long without ever spending a cent. I'm lvl 40 and I never spent anything. And the devs continue to add maps and content!! Cmon.

After reading all of this I feel Eliminate supporters intelligence and maturity > Nova fanboy's intelligence and maturity.
Notice that all Free games always have more negative comments. That's because you always get more people who don't understand the value of things properly. Thus vs a paid product like Nova, you'll hear more Nova fanboys cheering not because the product is actually better.
You can play Farmville free but only pay for additional content if you like. It's the same thing.
You can enter a Starbucks and use it's WiFi Free. Are you going to complain they didn't give you the coffee free too?

Usually free content has more negative comments because they are usually crappier than paid game although Eliminate is not crappy. I like Eliminate to an extent but I would not call the N.O.V.A fanboys less intelligent. Eliminate is not technically free. If it was truly a free game then there would not be power cells that you can buy. You would be able to play as long as you want and earn credits as long as you want without paying a cent. The fact that you can't do that means it is not truly free. Eliminate is one of those games that I feel like I never really own because to get full use out of it you have to keep paying for it; kind of like rent. The fact is the game has become really unbalanced and is starting to become unenjoyable for me. I was one of those people who was hoping that this game would be one of the best games for my iPhone but I have came to reality that it is not. I think eventually most Eliminate fanboys will eventually see what I mean.

I was one of those people who was hoping that this game would be one of the best games for my iPhone but I have came to reality that it is not. I think eventually most Eliminate fanboys will eventually see what I mean.

It's rather funny how every one praises the fact that you can play Eliminate via 3G. I have tried it and it is pretty smooth. However, you fail to mention that you can't play Eliminate WITHOUT an Internet connection making it impotent. A game that solely and inherently needs an Internet connection is a fail. Unless it's a desktop/laptop game, which this is not.

Another fail is that in the game story, your an employee of the corporation right? But if your working for them, why do the employees have to PAY the company? Seems like a metaphor to ngmoco's greed.

That's a terrible and weak comparison.

It's more like going to the starbucks and they give you free dialup Internet, but for highspeed, they charge you. Or you can only use it for 3 rounds of 90 seconds then you have to recharge untill you can you use the wifi again, but for 90 seconds at a time. Just like an Eliminate match. Or you can pay them and you don't have to wait to use the Internet. That's a perfect analogy.

Played it once and I still feel first person shooters are meant for the PC. I think there are plenty of genres suited for the iphone like 2D shooters like idracula style games and Mini Squadron. I hope TouchArcade mentions about how Mini Squadron is free today because I love that game :)

I feel that both games are good. Eliminate is a pretty fun free fps, it's main flaw is the recharge system but hey it's free. It's Fun and it gets updates so it's a game that everyone should try but if you happen to have six bucks then I deffinately recommend Nova. Personnaly I think it's the better fps. It's major flaw though is that it was made by gameloft, which means it will only see a couple of updates but it still should be an instant buy for anyone who likes fps'

I'm one of the target audiences here, the "Casual Gamer." I used to be "Hardcore" and was even ranked back in the Quake days, even topped #1 for instagib.

Here's what I see when I play both of these games subjectively.

Nova: A very ambitious game, does what it sets out to do very well, fill the Halo void on the iPhone. The single player campaigns are a bonus for me, something to do when I'm not on Wifi. The multiplayer, however, is what I play FPS for. With that said, I can comfortably say that in my opinion Nova does a great job at delivering the PvP experience to the iphone, however the thing to point out is that it is a different flavor of PvP. Like Halo, Nova's PvP is very forgiving. Halo watered down the the gameplay just enough to keep players interested, while maintaining a very smooth control scheme given the platform's limitations in this department. Nova adheres to this very well, and is why it has been so positively reviewed by the public.

What I see wrong with Nova, just like all FPS, is what the game will digress to once everyone is over the honeymoon phase and starts sticking with what works, auto-aim+sniper rifle. This happens to all games, and in World of Warcraft, you might refer to it as the "Flavor of the Month Class/Spec." What will be interesting to see here, is what Gameloft does to balance the weapons, which ultimately will be the game's Achilles' heel.

Eliminate: Without beating a dead horse, lets get passed the whole "Energy" thing for now. Whatever opinion you have on the matter, the bottom line is that you can still play without energy, and thats all I'm out to do, frag.

Eliminate, contrary to Nova, is modeled after the grand daddy of FPS PvP, Quake, more specifically Quake 3 since it's using the same engine. This type of PvP is much more frantic, and much less forgiving. The learning curve on the control scheme is not for everyone, a level of dedication is definitely required here. Getting discouraged at poor player performance due to the control scheme is just the first hurdle at learning to play Eliminate. (The first would technically be the whole Energy debacle, but I'm over that.)

The second hurdle is weapon balance. The fact that you can upgrade your weapons is a great plus for those of us gamers who like the idea of having a perpetual character to grow into an avatar we can be proud of. However, if you're not upgrading your Armor as you level to face these powered up opponents, you're going to get mopped up pretty bad. Like Nova, and all games for that matter, its easy to see that Eliminate has shown digression in the gameplay due to the weapon balance. The Plasma Cannon is still a force to be reckoned with, and rockets become incredible once you're launching 4 at a time.

Personally, I enjoy the frantic pace of Eliminate over the floaty feeling of Nova. By floaty, I mean jumping over people's head like a rabbit and just blasting them from above with the Shotgun over and over again, Yawn.

I've moved passed the Energy issue with Eliminate, and just play it on the throne at home. I'm typically charged for a game or two where I can collect credits, but that doesn't stop me from playing when I'm without credits. The point is, I don't live this game, I just want to kill people and quite possibly ruin someone's day if I had to set a goal.

Both games do well at what flavor of action you enjoy, frantic mayhem, or a more strategic approach to offing your adversaries. Which flavor you enjoy is entirely up to you, but the fact that we are now at a time in iPhone gaming where we can draw lines and compare games with each other is truly what we should be thankful for, thankful for having a choice.

Actually, I play both because they're both uniquely fun in their own way. I love how you could fling your finger for quick turns in Eliminate, plus the upgrade system has me hooked. Some problems that I have is the ranking system.

I find myself battling it out with people at level 40 when i'm at level 19. It's annoying because they obviously have better gear than I. Also, the bunker level has some serious glitches where the doors don't open properly. Hope they fix that too.

Nova is just amazing, but I still get disconnected too frequently. I'm still loving both though.

Yes, Eliminate may be the best shooter on the iPhone - true! It's fast, easy and graphics are nice.

But due to their crazy energy / in-app purchase system they loose many players. Seriously, I play once a day the free three rounds (thats roughly 10mins) and close eliminate.
If I would play as much as I would love too, I would have spend hundreds on this game. And for a hundred bucks I can get about 20 premium iPhone games instead.... guess what I do with my money.

The reality (at least for me) is that even the glitziest app store games are still relatively speaking only cheap thrills, and Eliminate, despite its excellent execution, is no exception. App store games are simply not deep enough to make me feel like I want to put reason aside and spend silly cash on one game, and devote myself to that one game. I play it for a short time, usually don't finish it, and then move on the next quick fix, which is always never far away, and I would hazard a guess that most people feel the same.

'Pay to Play' is synonymous with hard core gaming. They walk the same walk. 'On the move' gaming just doesn't command the same level of addiction to justify, in my mind at least, throwing coins into a bottomless pit.

World of Warcraft gets away with 'pay to play', and quite rightly...its phenomenal. But that ngmoco might have thought that they could generate that same cult euphoria that WoW has achieved with a game as simple as Eliminate in an app store that turns out increasingly better and better games at a rate of knots, seems a tad short sighted to me.

N.O.V.A. = 13 LEVELS. Superior Graphics. Superior detailed Enemies. Superior Sound and with Multiplayer added onto that. Anybody who cant see this is just plain less intelligent or needs glasses. 4 out of every 5 posters are picking N.OV.A. which means most of the people on this site are actually intelligent game reviewers. I equate the small group of backpack Eliminate fans trying to resist what the majority is picking as people who just wanna be different. Kind of like a 1,000 guys saying 1 girl is really cute, then 5 or 6 guys jumping up and disagreeing just for the sake of doing so or because they feel the really cute girl is getting to much praise, attention and credit from everyone else. This is exactly where I equate the mentality of anyone who would even dare put Eliminate anywhere near the obviously extremly superior game in N.O.V.A.!!!!!!!!!!!

Another word for these kind of people are called HATERS. They hate what everyone else likes in soceity because being different from the norm or the obvious is some cool in their estranged minds.

On the iPhone no, on the iTouch, yes. Phones are always connected to the internet, as are PCs so it's not totally unreasonable to make a game specifically for the online component. Single player takes a ton of time and development and for the most part people just rush through it and spend 99% of the rest of their time on the game in MP.

If WiMax was already common then I would even say it's ok for the itouch. But since WiFi still is very spotty outside the home, I don't see online-only games doing well on it.

ELIMINATE THIS GAME FROM YOUR IPHONE!!

I'm sick of this game, deleted it weeks ago. It's full of glitches, walking through walls in the tanks level, people teleporting, dying for no apparent reason. It was ok when it first launched but has become prgressively more unstable and perhaps these "updates" are more trouble than they're worth.

I saw a promotion today saying 1,000 free credits for installing "epic crime wars". So I re-installed Eliminate and then Crime Wars. Eliminate had a message saying something about thanks for downloading the other game, here are your 1,000 credits....but guess what....NO CREDITS!

It's not worth the frustration to me personally. Hope the few of you still playing this game enjoy it, later.

Nova is fun but after playing the campaign there's not much left to do but play online (which is still fun). Eliminate is all about online and I like the upgrade system. Both games are really good but you can't really compare the two together until eliminate gets a story mode and nova makes online play even better with chat and other stuff (which eliminate has). One upside to eliminate is that it uses Plus+ which is cool and helpful. Overall I Play eliminate bit more but nova is more fun. It really depends what kind of person you are. Nova for better playing and better price in the long run,and Eliminate for fast paced game that you will play a ton.
