Ah, the posibilities. What people are saying about the normal Unreal Engine 3 and how it takes up 7 Gb of memory is legitimate. It seems that people are going to need 64 Gb if they want to run UE3, and its games, on the 3rd gen or 3gs. Remember that games like Gears of War, 12 Gb, and Unreal Tournament 3, 9 Gb, take up a large amount of space too so you would need a lot of space on your iDevice. Also I thank gameloft for revolutionizing the app store, BUT they have limited it more than any other developer as well. They have put the price cap at $6.99 and that's just not fair. If us iGamers want to have legit games on our devices we are going to have to be less frugal and start being willing to pay between $15-$30. I know that seems like a lot but that is how it has to be in order to "port" some of the games that run on UE3. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Side note: anyone know how much the Tablet will cost?

My bad. Saw some demos on YouTube, but they were running on Bootcamp. I was also assuming that BioShock was UT3, but, as somebody else pointed out, it's more like UT2.5. Thank's for the non-snarky correction, ltcommander.data.

Porting Gears of War may not happen, I know most of us would enjoy the concept of having games running at a 3GS, but it's not going to be as wonderful, and people are willing to just pay 6.99, instead of something higher. Grand theft auto: chinatown may still have a chance because it isn't so much as a trouble to deal with porting against Gears of War, which you have said to have a memory of 7GB. Taking up large amounts of space, and will probably drain out your battery.

Also I would like to say that there doesn't need to be a straight out port. It could just be a rescripted version of for example, gears of war.

May I also add that the iTablet "large iphone" is coming out, thanks to Pocketgamer, we have some leaked specs on the tablet. I know some of you have said that Unreal Engine 3 cannot run on a mac, but what about Unity? Or something less, we can have ports on other fantasic games too.

Unreal 3 Engine games take about 7 Gb of pc memory.
So , how much it will take on iPhone/iTouch 3gs/3g ?
I think it should take less becouse it looks optimazed.

For all the people saying "oh I hope they port this, I hope they port that:"

This is just displaying that the engine runs on the iPhone/Touch. Did you see the video? One small empty room against one guy. This isn't UT3 on your iPhone, it's just showing that the engine can run on it.

There's a difference, guys.

I guess I don't share your certainty or pessimism. This market is way too new to have hard-and-fast rules. Perhaps the iPhone will never have original console-level IPs: they're expensive to produce, and the risks are just too great. But there could very well be a nice market for quality ports at around $15-$20. Imagine: the iPlatform could become the second-run theater of the portable gaming world. (BTW, that's my guess for why Rockstar is sitting on GTA:CW -- they're waiting for it to be old hat on the PSP).

COD Zombies is an incomplete game, because Activision would not have sold the full version of COD Zombies for 9.99 and they knew that people would not pay more than 9.99 for it, so they compromised by releasing a stripped down version of the game. The full version would have had 3 or 4 maps, instead of 1, and would have sold for 19.99, and basically no one would have bought it. And that's why activision didn't make it. And that's why Rockstar has delivered on GTA:CTW yet. Because the full retail game sells for 35-40 on the PSP and DS. People will not pay more than 9.99 for it on the iphone though. A few will, sure. But Rockstar needs to sell thousands of copies of this game. Rockstar does not believe that thousands of idevice owners will willingly pay a true premium price for this game. They'll have to sell it for 9.99, which is why it continues to be delayed.

And Gameloft is a mobile game developer. This is what they do. They also take shortcuts in doing it. Cheasy/cookie-cutter writing/comically bad voice over work/lazy & offensive character stereotypes. Epic does not intend to take these kind of short cuts in order to sell you high-end games for less than $10. They're not going to make iGears of War and sell it for 9.99 or less. And I doubt anyone working for Epic honestly believes that idevice owners would pay anything more than 9.99.

And I bought both NFS games, Doom Resurrection, Terminator, Real Racing, Avatar, COD Zombies, MGS, & Rock Band, all for 9.99, and damn near all of Gameloft's games for 6.99. There are very few people on this forum would have spent more on idevice games then me. Which why it angers me that the unwillingness of others to pay competitive prices is holding the idevice back as a true gaming machine.

Because I would pay. Gears of War for the iphone for 29.99. I'm buying that in the first 5 minutes of it's release. I'm only frustrated because it's never going to happen, largely because, ironically enough, Gameloft has capped the market at 6.99. Now virtually nothing above 6.99 is going sell. There will be a few expections, but only a few.

It's a real question whether people are willing to pay console prices for console-level games. My guess is that folks who paid $9.99 for CoD:Zombies (basically, a mini-game based on a recognizable property) will likely pay $20.00+ for something that recreates the full console experience (as much as you can do that on an iPhone screen). In any event, as long as they are savvy about their investments (for example, by reusing existing assets and working with well-established IPs), there's good reason to believe that major developers/publishers will be able to create UT3-based games profitably.
