"most people" can be stupid and have poor taste.

I'm not an indie developer. just as a player I never found any gameloft game to be fun. it's totally ok with me if you are under 18 and find gameloft games to be interesting in any way. but if you are beyond a certain age and still maintain that poor taste, please try to train yourself to have sharper eyes.

this is not even a matter of personal preferences. it's about taste. know that most people may not have it.

this bashing of gameloft really is NOT fair. i'm an indie dev and i can say unabashedly that most indie iphone devs are just looking to make a buck without putting any work out. iphone games suck. the price point [$0.99 to $6.99] demands that the game get thrown out without any real effort. until you guys are willing to pay $20 to $50 for an iphone game, you're going to continue to get crap. gameloft is turning a profit in the only way they viably can. they put out shallow games that are frankly made quite well. and i might add much better than the 90th percentile indie iphone games. i wish i had their resources. i could make much better games with much higher production value than i currently do. but then again, would any of you guys pay enough for me to break even much less turn a profit?

Just because you are satisifed with what they do (filling a gap) does not change what they do. Their wares are still blatant knock offs.

Your post are just so stupid, we are talking about a handheld here or can you bring your ps3 on your way to work? I am not a desperate gamer I own home consoles too but I still crave for something I can bring around everywhere with me that can satisfy me with the same experience. Go midian and play your mindless casual games more power to you but stop from telling us what is right for the iPhone and what Is not ;)

Not in the least. I have no vested interest in running a website or making a game so I can say what all those who do understand the dynamics of the App Store can't for fear of exactly this sort of backlash.

So 'Marley & Me' is a piece of brilliant, transcendent comedy akin to, say, Clerks? Is Miley Cyrus an innovative recording artist that would make Brian Eno weep into his synthesizers? Of course not.

The most successful things generally (and the anomalies are, as always what prove the rule - hello, John, Paul, George and Ringo) are never seriously inventive. This does not mean they lack any credibility, but the fact is what appeals to a large mass of people generally relies on base instincts and already established formulae with their own little twists, be it Call of duty going back to the future in COD4 or Metal Gear Sold 3 freshing things up by rearranging the deck chairs to look like the 1960's.

But even that is removed from Gameloft's 'just copy it' approach that lacks any semblance of developing anything beyond something that looks somewhat like something else but is different enough not to be sued.

The fact is the 'unwashed masses' don't bother to understand the implications of this approach (see above, repeating it again is utterly pointless), and you'd be a fool to tell anyone that the best and most innovative games, films and music are the ones that those same masses lap up. The masses of people who enjoyed GI Joe in a non-ironic Mystery Theater 3000 way are not exactly the people who have expert understanding of industries or how they can best develop.

Simply put, people as a whole are indeed quite dumb.
