Shooter 'Sky Force' Free for the Weekend

sky_force screenIt's a bit of a late heads-up, but scrolling shooter fans should take advantage of Infinite Dreams' weekend giveaway of Sky Force [App Store] in celebration of the studio's iQuarium being in the App Store Top 100 list.

Sky Force is a traditional vertical arcade shooter in which you must battle across seven different levels, one of which features a boss-battle at the end. The game offers a variety of pickups and powerups along the way.

The game bears much similarity to Infinite Dreams' earlier iPhone release, Sky Force Reloaded, which we reviewed back in March. (Reloaded was, interestingly, released to the App Store before Sky Force.) The game delivers a solid arcade shooter feel superior to that of many similar titles that can be found in the App Store.

Originally a mobile title that launched to rave reviews, the iPhone version, normally priced at $1.99, is free for the duration of the weekend. Don't miss a freebie on a great iPhone vertical shooter experience.

    I think you got it backwards; it looks like Sky Force (not Sky Force reloaded) is on sale for the weekend. The iTunes Sky Force page says it's free for the weekend to celebrate iQuarium.

    However, it won't let me purchase the original Sky Force right now because it's "being modified."

    Please, record your iPhone/touch videos with room lights OFF. Your game screen is self illuminated and does not need external lighting. Room lights cast reflections on the screen and distract from gameplay with your moving hands and other, unneeded background elements.

    Try it! Your videos will look much clearer, more focused and the black background will create a natural framing effect around the game screen.

    Was this really on sale? It hasn't been on sale for almost all of Sunday. It seems like a bit of a rip-off, bait and switch, as someone said. Infinite Dreams, the developer, can count on me not buying any of their games at all in the future.

    Me and my friends were trying to download the game for a good part of Sunday (this morning), constantly rechecking but always getting the "Being Modified" error. Around 2 hours ago it just reverted back to full price. Was the game really free this weekend? Last I checked Saturday by itself doesn't count for being "The Weekend". Anyone know the difference between just Sky Force and Reloaded? If I were to buy one, which would be the better one?

    The reason of the problem was the update process on App Store (we had no real influence on the specific moment the promotion will start and end). Anyway we decided to drop the price of the game from $1.99 to $0.99 in order to at least partially compensate it to those who wanted to download it for free but were too late.

    Flickitty had something similar happen not too long ago, actually. They went ahead and made it free for another day or two to compensate, but it wasn't the dev's fault (just as it isn't here). Quit whining and pay the DOLLAR to buy it if you're so desperate.
