'The Creeps' Goes Free for a Day

posted March 25th, 2010 9:41 PM EST by arn in Free, iPhone games, iPod touch games

The Creeps has always had some of the most character of all the Tower Defense games on the iPhone. Today, The Creeps has gone free to download -- so now's your chance if you missed this one the first time around.

The Creeps! is a fun and charming Tower Defense game that has been a reader favorite. The game incorporates a few twists to the Tower Defense genre, including the presence of physical objects (trees, gravestones) that must be destroyed before you can build towers on those spots.

Check out the gameplay video:

Normally I don't like when apps that i bought go free. However, this one is so good that I really don't mind that i payed for it.

Needless to say, this is a must download!

Wow, thanks for the mention! I actually kicked off the free price about half a day early (it will be featured on FreeAppADay all day Friday (tomorrow)) so you actually have about a day and a half :)

This is one of those gams where I just never really understood why it was so popular. I guess now I'll find out.

Still one of my favorite games, even though I don’t like “cute” art styles. The way the towers behave is fun, and the scenery-destruction (for profit!) is a nice twist.

You need to fix the post. It's not just free....they changed the app.....so it's now free with more downloadable packs. Notice there are only 12 reviews on it. They changed the game to rope you into playing and then charging you for all the downloadable packs. They had downloadable packs...but now they took some of the core game and made it into an in app purchase, in addition to the normal ones they already had.

From the cutesy art style (not my favorite type either, but it totally works for this game) to the sound effects of the dying creeps, with all of the maps and themes and tie-ins and game types, this remains one of my top three TD games on my iPhone... Definitely a must-buy, and VERY definitely a must-get free download.

    @ Joey

Wow Joey, that kinda hurts. I've been supporting The Creeps! for well over a year now adding new free content (New levels, new sounds, new enemies, new towers, a new game mode, difficulty settings, online scores, achievements, fun secret cross-overs with Doodle Jump and Pocket God etc.) as well as fixing bugs and answering email. The game has been $0.99 for most of it's life (check http://www.appshopper.com if you don't believe me) and let me tell you that's a LOT of work for only $.99. Level packs (months more work by the way) were added at the beginning of January this year, more than a year after the game's launch. The reason there are so few reviews right now is that a recent bug fix update just got approved. The game has 31 included levels now (19 unique maps) (it was launched with only 8 I think). It is a complete game even if you don't get level packs. And if you like it, you have more content available. I think that it's totally reasonable. And wow, you are complaining about getting a free game. You are impossible to please.

And no, I never removed levels from the main game to put in the level packs like you are saying. You are getting The Creeps! confused with Fieldrunners.

I remember buying this when it was 2.99 during its early days, and then iTunes wouldn't allow me because as the message pop-up went, the app was undergoing a change. Fortunately for me, it was a price drop and I got it for 0.99. I have played more than 10 TD's already on my iPod, and this is the game I played the most. My gf got hooked in TD thru TapDefense, and The Creeps! made her love the genre even more. This will be one of the few games that went free that are truly gems.

Fieldrunners added news levels as DLC, just like you did.

I do love The Creeps & bought all the DLC packs, so great job on the game etc. But honestly, you're doing the same thing Joey did, spreading misinformation.

Still one of my favorite td games. I bought it, I bought the DLC, I will continue to support this and his future games if they are good. It's not about it being cute or whatever, it's a good TD game that stands on those merits alone. Beside the fact that it's super smooth, runs great and has had awesome support.. More than I can say for a lot of apps out there. Great game, glad to see it free for a day.
@joey - you should really get your facts straight before you go off like that.

I heard one of the new maps was given to people for free, and then later taken away from them and made available again as a paid level. If I was misinformed, them I'm sorry and I take it back.

So if you buy a plasma for 2K and 1/2 yr later it is sold for 1400, you are mad, right? everything you purchase will be less after a while (the on exception is food)

RegularStormy, you made THE CREEPS? kudos man, it's A-W-E-S-O-M-E.

look, I just got it today (when I saw it was free; sorry, I wasn't aware of its existence before) and already I've told all my iDevice owning friends about it.

There is a LOT of content there in the "core" game; I don't see how anyone could complain about that. Even IF you removed some stuff (which you say you didn't), THE CREEPS is still a better deal than a lot of TD games out there,
and that's coming from someone who's tried a *bunch* of TD games on the appstore (GEODEFENSE & SWARM, FIELDRUNNERS, SENTINEL to name a few).

From what little I've seen so far (played about 90 minutes), THE CREEPS is up there with the best of em. The game oozes personality (seriously, the "glue" tower is hands down the coolest looking tower I've seen in all the TD games I've played); the base is hilarious (little kid cowering under his blanket); the sound effects.. it's all great! The first thing that came to mind after playing a couple of games was, DAMN Fieldrunners is overrated!!

I'd also like to give mad props to what I think is a most original twist in the genre: the BUSTA DOOR mode. I've never seen that in a TD game before and it's a riot.

I will definitely support THE CREEPS by purchasing additional packs - that's how good I think it is (I'm not usually big on DLC..). I just need to make my way through what's already there.

So big ups man, loving your game

I heard Doodle jump will go on sale for free on February 30th of next year.

Anyway I hope this leads to more sales for RegularStormy and S3 because this is truly the best TD on the store.

Fantastic TD game; great sound and art style - and a few extra twists not found in other TD games.

How any one can make even the slightest complaint on a free quality iphone/touch game is beyond me. Makes me really appreciate it when I think about the blood-hungry kiddies who are shelling out $60.00 a shot for an Xbox game because the "grafix is awsum and i luv choppin peoples up"
