'Pocket Legends' Free 3D MMO iPhone Client Released

posted April 8th, 2010 3:38 PM EST by Eli Hodapp in Free, iPad Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games, Massive Multiplayer (MMO), Role-Playing

Spacetime Studios' Pocket Legends [iPhone, Free / iPad, Free] has been the talk of the town since the iPad client was first released along side the iPad last Saturday. We've already posted about the game between its announcement and a comparison between both the iPhone and iPad clients. Also, we have threads in our forums for both the iPad and iPhone versions of the game if you're looking for someone to play with.

So there you have it, both clients are now available, and completely free. People in our forums are loving the game, and while I haven't been able to invest too much time in to it yet, you've got nothing to lose by giving it a spin.

It's fun but I find myself with not enough potions. But I guess that is ok, I don't need to be playing this 24/7.

This is fantastic, it perfectly combines online mmorpg's with bite-sized portable play. The graphics are great, animations are fluid, lots of skills and weapons. Nothing to dislike in this game.

Well, hey. You can buy those from the store with gold (i.e. *not* real money. That would have been sucky). In-game purchases for content is pretty acceptable, really.

Awesome thanks for the heads up, I (for some reason) thought the potions were real cashola. This is good news.

In case anyone cares I tried it on my iPhone, I have been playing on the iPad, and it is still fun. I could access my same chars and the extra dungeon levels I bought where still available.

This game is pretty awesome! I'm a level 11 warrior now and having a great time raiding dungeons with some other people. Also purchased the emoticon packs for extra fun and the first dungeon pack to support the developers. If anybody wants to add me: Evilteddy

I wouldn't call it an MMO, just Diablo like, an online RPG.

    It get's a bit repetitive.
But besides that: Fantastic and time consuming game :)

I barely started playing it, but so far the combat seems a little mundane- just point and shoot. No real fun that way, the customization seems cool and menus seem a little complex- gonna have to actually pay attention to the little tutorials. I can see myself getting bored just killing guys wandering down a rode after a little while. Also, if there is pvp since the combat is so straightforward that might also be lackluster.

I think it's alright. I just wish there were actual quests and free roaming to make it a real mmorpg. At the moment, it's just an mmo in my book

There's really no reason not to try this game. It's free.

I love it and have already purchased the first campaign. Really great that the dev allowed the first campaign to be completely free. This is a high quality, polished title.

If the devs are reading... How about making the game remember your password when you log on/off? Or at least making this an option?

I hate games that make you type it in every time. I get the need for security, I guess, but the chance of a criminal stealing my iPod just to level up my character in your MMORPG is slight, but it's something I'm willing to risk.

How is it that they are able to update their content in game? As in it's not an update submitted to apple via itunes, but downloaded in the app?

I'm sure it's trustworthy, but I thought all updates had to go through apple?

This is the best multiplayer game I've played on here. Truly an mmo for your phone. That's definitely a step in the right direction. :)

Not an MMO per se. More like Diablo. But that's not a bad thing! Excellent execution, works amazingly well. On a phone! Really fantastic.

Whoops, made it a reply by accident. I meant for it to be a normal reply. But anyway, I thought you'd have to cash out for the potions at first, too. Thankfully, they're not! Paying for extra maps seems more reasonable.

I'm not sure, but Eliminate does this too.

Two things I'd really like to see, though:
    - more than one chat line for the iPhone version. Yes I know I can click on the chat bubble and it'll show me more, but shouldn't have to if all you want to do is read while attacking.
    - deselecting and selecting monsters! While this game almost hits the nail on the head when it comes to team-RPG-gaming, I'm kind of pissed that I can't choose to attack a low-health monster that a team-mate is attacking if a full-health monster is closer.

Those are the only two things I hate. I'm normally quite a cheap ass, but this game is very generous in terms of features, I might just buy me the extra dungeons, and maybe a crossbow ;)

Actually, you can select/deselct by tapping the monster.
Great game, loving it so far...

    can't....stop....playing

I had to buy the emote packs as a thanks to the Devs for giving the base game away for free, and theres nothing like running into a room with fireworks shooting out your a** before you stomp a hole in some zombies.

It's not a mmo. I was very disappointed to find this out. It's still a fun game though.

How did this term become so confusing? I think Guild Wars being called a MMO created all the confusion.

Ahahah ditto buddy. Did the same thing for the same reasons (bought the emote pack to support the devs) and always come into a room blasting fireworks before engaging the undead.

Also it's nice to impress the noobs :D
