Gameloft Podcast #5 Released - 'Iron Man 2' Gameplay Footage and 'Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within' Announced

Gameloft's Naomi and Josh are back again to bring us another look inside of Gameloft. Like most of their video podcasts, they include a good mix of things you've likely already seen if you follow TouchArcade closely along with some new reveals.

This one is much longer than their other video podcasts, so if you don't want to sit through the whole thing, you can skip to these points of interest:

0:00 - Gameloft visits the New York City Fifth Avenue Apple Store and talks to some people about the iPad, along with interviewing some of their own developers who discuss how great the iPad is going to be for gaming.
2:51 - iPad trailers for HD versions of Shrek Kart, Brothers in Arms 2 Global Front, Hero of Sparta, and Avatar
5:13 - Blokus overview, including some tips and video of what playing the actual board game looks like.
6:26 - Iron Man 2 gameplay iPhone gameplay footage, as well as revealing that the game will be simultaneously coming to all three devices. They're not clear as to whether or not this means Iron Man 2 will be universal, or if the iPhone version will simply launch with the iPad HD version.
8:02 - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction gameplay video combined with an overview of the iPhone exclusive Potomac River level which apparently is going to feature a rails shooter portion.
8:45 - Gameloft officially reveals Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within. They don't show any gameplay, but the cinematic trailer is pretty cool.
10:45 - Explanation of the various contests Gameloft is currently running to get free games and even a trip to their offices in Paris
11:45 - Gameloft closes their video podcast with a brief Q&A and revealed that their games generally take a year to develop from early concepts, to actual development, testing, and everything else.

The cinematic trailer is exactly the same that opened the PS2/PSP versions of Warrior Within. Personally, I'm disappointed: would have much preferred a version of The Forgotten Sands or even Sands of Time. Warrior Within is when PoP got all dark and emo, and much less fun.

Splinter Cell looks great. I just finished the 360 version and the game is currently 'under my skin' so being able to play a version of it it on the go is a very welcome thought.

I loved the PoP PSP games, I was probably very much alone from comments I've seen on other forums, but I really did enjoy them. If the controls are well implemented, then it could work very well indeed.

Also, I love that TA is doing vcasts but the canned, commercialesque approach is making me cringe a tad (Please, please...this is constructive criticism, TA is great and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade). Have you guys thought about trying a more relaxed casual approach? I think you are perhaps following the example of the xboxlive video bites with the quick, canned dialogue but I honestly think you should stay well away from that and inject yourselves more. <---- $0.02

Overall, thanks for the great info and hard work! (Oh, and and the girl is lovely btw)

I dunno, warrior within was my favourite PoP game. I doubt that it will have good controls and run smoothly on iPhone 3g though...

No mention of Zombie Infection and some people are just now starting to wonder (in the Zombie Infection thread) if this has anything to do with Capcom and Gameloft's prior partnership with Capcom. I brought up that exact point the very same day the game was announced, which had to be like, what, six weeks to two months ago? Man, some people really are slow.

Again, Gameloft really needs to stop with the cookie-cutter, reskinned, rail-shooting sequences that the seem to want to wedge into every action game they make. They've shoved yet another one into Splinter Cell. I would only be have surprised if they forced a rail-shooting sequence into PoP as well.

These games are pretty much all meh. Iron Man 2 has the most potential, but I still would fall all over myself trying to get it. Conviction is like a reskinned Terminator. Perhaps it looks a little too much like Spyhon Filter to me and that's why I'm not excited about it.

I'm more into the prospects of Gangstar: Sin City and NOVA 2, especially if they are powered by the next generation of enhanced gaming engines. Perhaps we'll see October or November releases on those. Of course, neither game has been offically annouced yet.
