'Beyond Ynth' Trailer Revealed

posted August 2nd, 2010 4:48 PM EDT by Eli Hodapp in Games, iPad Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games, Puzzle, Upcoming Games

Earlier this year we took a look at Ynth [$2.99], a puzzle platformer that never really seemed to catch on which we ended up enjoying quite a bit in our review. In the game you play as a small red bug who has to cross a deadly swamp using nothing more than an array of oddly shaped boxes that you're able to rotate about using touch controls. Completing Ynth required a surprising amount of brain power, and from the looks of it, the sequel looks even more challenging.

We don't really know much more about Beyond Ynth, other than it's coming in September, but hopefully posting this trailer generates some interest for the original game as I'm sure quite a few people missed it the first time around. Beyond Ynth will support the Retina Display of the iPhone 4, as well as the iPad along with the rest of the iOS device family.

I wanted to say that the sequel will be more challenging in a fun way, with the introduction of new elements and environments, but it will not be frustrating, as it is much harder to die now! :)

Oh man yes! I loved the original Ynth, which I'd rank as one of the best puzzle platformers on the iPhone, right up there with Soosiz and Miner Disturbance. The additions here (objects that don't kill you, outside ground you can walk on, freezing surfaces, burning sunlight, switches, and the ability to jiggle boxes when they don't have room to tip) all look great. The level design of the first game was so consistently brilliant that I'll be buying this for sure.

The original Ynth is a masterpiece!

And the developer promised to update the original game for iOS 4.0. Hopefully that update coming soon.

This new game looks very promising too!

Looks very cool and very pretty music there too! Might have to reinstall the original and actually play through it in the meantime!

I wish this would come out in August!

Anyway, how much will it cost?

Have to agree with some of the others that I thought that the original was one of the best platform/puzzle games around. This version looks like a huge improvement over what was already a solid game. Looking forward to it, and will put the original back on to help pass the time until September.

I loved the first one on iPhone, installed it on my iPad to play through it again.
The sequel looks awesome with all the new environments and interactions.

    Is it September yet? :D

@emil3m: The developer of Ynth (very nice and responsive) updated the original Ynth game to iPad (and iPad resolution) for free a few weeks ago. He/they deserve a huge amount of karma points for this. Same goes for the Canabalt devs and Pangea Software. I love devs like those. :)
