I think they should charge a very small fee for each app submitted whether it's new or an update. It could just be like 5 dollars. That would be enough to make devs that spam stop and devs with decent apps would make that back in a day.

I agree - even 9.95 or 19.95. Considering you only pay 99 for the Apples dev kit.
Keep the spam out... man the app store is screwed up.

    changing date

I have two apps in review now. its great to see waiting for review in there.

because I'm in Australia- i'm usually asleep when the app would get approved. So its hard for me to go in and change the date.

My first app i had in for two weeks and was changing the release date to 'todays' date each day so that i would get into latest releases. After not been approved for that long. I decided to stop doing it, within 3 days I had a response from then (they rejected it unfortunately).

Now i've fixed up what needed fixing and put into review again.

My only worry is if i should not change the release date each day...

Does anyone have experience with changing the release date and it affecting your place in queue?

    Cheers

I tried changing the date every day once and it didn't seem to affect anything, app was approved in the normal two weeks.

But what about devs with free apps?

I have this incredible Japanese dictionary app - Kotoba! - which has always been free, and received a recent update. Nor does it have any advertising. In fact, I contacted the developer to offer a donation and he wouldn't accept it! He seems to just do it out of the kindness of his heart. I wouldn't want him to pay to make updates.

Hopefully the way Apple's changed the front page and no longer show updated apps there will be enough to stem the flow of unnecessary spamdates.
