Why would you want Morrowind on a phone? If you like playing games like that, why not play them on your PC? There are lots of other types of games that are easier to play and have a better interface on a phone/device touchscreen, but this doesn't seem like one of them.
You can say the same thing about 90% of games in the handheld console market. The obvious answer is that many people want to play this type of games when they're not sitting in front of a PC. You'd think that the number of posts on this thread would have clued you in a little bit.
No, I wouldn't say that. In my opinion, most of the iOS games that are most successful are actually more enjoyable to play on a handheld touchscreen device than on a PC because of the improved interface, and portability is secondary, at best. That's certainly true of the games I tend to play. You don't have to be a troll. I asked a simple question. I don't think there is any way to deduce from the number of posts the answer to the question, "What appeals to you about this?"
alright guys - come on. what are you even arguing about. seriously. what we need now is some cheer leading to get us across the finish line.
Gimme an A! Gimme an R! Gime another A! Gimme a L! Gimme a O! Gimme a N! What's that spell?!?! ARALON!!! (At least we think it does)
You are being disingenuous. Clearly you are not interested in playing this type of game on the platform, and still you choose to post a dispiriting message on this thread. That's about as troll-like as it gets. There are plenty of people who are excited to play Aralon on a touchscreen interface -- that's why I brought up the number of posts. You are obviously not one of them, and that's fine.
Give me a f***ing break. It's not my kind of game, but I am interested in learning why people are excited about it. There's nothing "dispiriting" about that, I just asked a simple question. Since when did the forum rules require that only people who are personally excited about playing a game be allowed to post in the forums? Aren't these forums for all kinds of discussion about iOS games?
Yeah, because your post was totally neutral and did not express a value judgment Obviously you have as much right to post here as anyone. And I have a right to call you on it. If you don't want folks to respond to what you write, don't post on an open forum.
That is entirely true. There were no "value judgments" in what I wrote, just my opinion and my interest in other people's opinions. I honestly have no idea at all why you are on this rant, but it is completely and totally inappropriate. I asked a simple question about why people want to play games like Morrowind on their iOS devices. It doesn't justify flames in response. If you want to answer the question, do, and if you don't want to answer, don't, but please spare the rest of us the flame war about people asking questions you don't like.
This has evolved from discussing Aralon to an all out discussion about... something else... *sighs* what's this world coming to?
What flame war? I have yet to use a single word to insult you. I responded to your question in my first reply. The answer, though, seemed so obvious (you are clearly smart enough to figure it out) that I couldn't help but read an ulterior motive to the question. Apologies if you were simply curious.
So, "disingenous", "troll-like", and needing to be "clued in" are compliments? I accept your apology, but I'm still interested in answers to the original question. Why are people who obviously enjoy playing Morrowind on their PCs excited about the idea of a similar game on their portable devices? I can think of lots of possible reasons, but none of them are entirely convincing: So they can play in places they wouldn't take a PC or laptop. So they can play at home, but not sitting at a desk. Because they think the game will be cheaper and deliver the same value. Because they have played out Morrowind and want more of the same, on any device. Because they think the touch interface is actually better for this sort of game than mouse interface. Because there are specific game elements in Morrowind they think this designer can improve upon. Other things I haven't thought of. I might be smart, but it takes more than intelligence to figure out which other people believe which of these things. That's why I asked.
Wish you had phrased the question that way originally -- it would have saved us considerable grief. I can answer the question only for myself, but perhaps you can extrapolate. These days I do the bulk of my gaming between other activities: on my commute, for example. I have a demanding job that puts me in front of a computer screen all day (I'm a creative in an advertising firm), and at home I have a family to deal with. I gave away my console years ago because it just wasn't practical to take over the living room. So I'm basically a handheld gamer: I play on a DS, a PSP, and most often on an iPhone. As it happens, I like the flexibility of interface that you find in a touchscreen, and I find the idea of an all-in-one device very compelling (web surfing on the DS and the PSP sucks). Now, as people around here know, I'm a big fan of RPGs. Between the DS and the PSP there are plenty of great Asian RPGs available. Western RPGs ate barely represented, though. I see this as a particular niche for iOS gaming, and I am really happy that an indie team has taken up the challenge of delivering a compelling western RPG experience. Sure, you can play Oblivion, The Witcher, and Dragon Age on a PC, but I find it less than enjoyable to sit in front of a computer after I get home from work. I also happen to dig the intimate quality of playing a game up close on a smaller screen. Does that answer your question?
What have I started? Anyway, as I said, I am down for buying this day one as it looks incredible and so much hard work, care and attention has gone into it, which in the iOS market that is saturated with lazy ports and shovelware, is a commendable effort. Oh and iirc you can wear a cape? I always buy RPG's with cape slots (so often overlooked...Dragon Age, I am looking at you!).
