    I'll answer your question too...

For me its not about liking to play an RPG game on my iPad/iPhone more than on a PC/Mac, for me its about availability...

I work away from home 4 nights a week and on weekends i don't have too much free time for gaming anymore so the ever increasing quality and depth of iOS gaming has brought a welcome avenue for me.

Games like Galaxy of Fire 2, RealRacing and others have a level of depth and progression which keep me interested and let me play the games i like in a way i can on the go...

I personally cannot wait to get my hands on more traditional RPG like Aralon having enjoyed other simpler RPG's like Ravensword, Dungeon Hunter & Rimelands (i know not all from this dev) but overall i'm heartened to see devs putting in significant development time and effort to creating more full and complete games.

I do still play Mac & PS3 games and am looking forward to games like Diablo 3 but i know i won't be able to play that as much as games on my iOS devices.

And to all the chaps working hard on getting Aralon over finish line.... GO TEAM!!! You can do it!!! We have faith in you :)

I'll bite on Daviddesj's questions (even though I think the discussion should be moved to a general forum thread outside of this one).

I work on computers during the day and my older body just can't handle sitting on its bottom at night just to play PC games. I would play console games perhaps but I'm really not interested in the costs (money for the console and lots of money for the games), plus both for PC and consoles (but mainly consoles) my (possibly ignorant) perspective is that too many games released on the bigger platforms are more flash and spectacle than substance. Plus, I like variety in games. I get bored quickly with most games, and maybe its better now with demo versions of games on consoles (I don't really know) but I don't like paying $50+ dollars for a game that ends up not being too good. Yes, I do know about renting as an option...

Although not as much I do travel for work from time to time, so I wouldn't be able to play games on a PC or console while travelling anyway.

I also tend to play games in short bursts mostly but I do like deep games that I can play for an hour or two at a time when I want.

Playing on a console would require purchasing an additional TV or a monitor as I wouldn't be able to "take over" the living room. I have a family so it is difficult to juggle sharing time on a PC.

In addition I just happen to enjoy using my iPhone as a mobile gaming device and a small mobile computer. I use it at home connected to my wireless router to surf the web, check email, make phone calls, play games, listen to music - pretty much everything I used to mainly use a PC and a telephone for. And I get to carry it with me everywhere. And its quicker to "boot up" than a PC. I do like technology and I get a thrill of even just playing "meaty" games on my iPhone. That is, its interesting to me just to even see what works, what doesn't, and what is technologically possible on a smartphone.

I would like to perhaps even add that I haven't seen a game like Aralon come out on any device that I'm aware of on, well, any platform since Morrowind. Yeah, I know there are other RPGs, I know about Dragon Age (I have it actually), but there's just something about this game that regardless of the platform I still have a lot of interest. Maybe I've hit my limits with games and I'm stuck in a mindset of a few years ago but I am personally more excited about games like this coming out than anything coming out on the PC or any of the consoles right now. It so far appears to have an "old school" like play experience that looks similar to games like Morrowind, but without too much over the top drama like so many more recent games seem to have. I realize I'm sounding generic and general but these are my gut feelings.

So there's multiple reasons I personally am very interested in this game and hope it matches even a half of the expectations that I have for it. Just hoping it comes out a week or so before Christmas so I'll have something to play all week long while I'm on break from work... (But I'd rather of course have it come out later if it has to! I don't want anything rushed before its ready.)

EDIT: Forgot to add - go Josh and team! I'm sure I have at least a hundred games on my iPhone and I've looked at hundreds more, but this game probably more than any of the rest looks the most interesting and I very excited about it. Well, this and FFT ;) (I never got a chance to play Final Fantasy Tactics before so I'm very interested in that one too). I'm very impressed with everything that I've read, seen, or heard about Aralon so far. Day one purchase for me for sure regardless of the cost...

Huzzah! =) This is like my first post on this thread, but I have been tracking it for about three months now. This game looks by far like the best game yet to be introduced to the iOS. Keep up the good work!

I have a question about the game. This is not to add another "to do" to your list, but I'm just wondering--will one be able to make the controls transparent like one could on Ravensword? I thought that was a neat feature. =)

Also, does your post mean the beta will get pushed back again? :(

You know what I am excited about!... IT IS NOT ON RAILS!!!!

    ;)

I hate rails and the biggest publishers out there are all pushing rails...Another words they are to afraid to put a lot of cash down on iDevice apps as of yet. Of Course I cannot blame them .. if they dedicate 10 guys at an average of 50k a year (And that is a LOW estimate when you talk about new tech).. they would have to make 400k minimum to make a profit (do not forget adverts and the upper management )...
    Rails means:
    1. No AI
    2. No player collision
    3. Controlled viewpoint (make really nice pictures...like Space Age did in the past)
    4. EXTREMELY lowered cost...
    5. No sandbox gaming
    6. Endless other benefits... really... controlling gameplay to that level makes it just a graphics demo...

I am glad to see CM go for it... as I am too.. its fun to push the boundaries =)..

Really looking forward to this game.. =) Keep up the good work guys!

the hands on video is like 10 minutes long. but even in that time I still couldn't fit that much in! I didn't even have a chance to go inside any of the houses or caves (99% of which are explorable)
maybe the next one... if we have time of course.

Devs- have a question for you: Do you have any kind of gameplay in this game that you can do in short increments, like say…5 minutes? Something where you can go in and accomplish a task or play some kind of mini-game to improve a stat or something…basically can you accomplish anything in this game in a 5-minute play session?

    The reason I ask?

I recently just bought a game called Galaxy on Fire 2. I was never much into space sims, at least on the mobile platform (loved the old Xwing games on the computer), but this game was getting great reviews so though I’d give it a shot. Turns out, the game is outstanding. A few issues like any other game, but all in all the best game by far I’ve played on the iphone. This morning on my way to work, was trying to figure out why I like it more than any other game I’ve played. I’ve played most of the popular ones. From Modern Combat to Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, NOVA, Ravensword etc. etc.

So why is GOF2 the best imo? Because it has a seamless combination of amazing depth along with a good way to play it in 5 minute increments if that is all the time you have. Added in with solid gameplay = epic win. It’s essentially a sandbox space fighter game. It has an engaging main storyline but also a ton of sidejobs as well as the ability to mine asteroids to build up money in order to buy new ships/guns/equipment etc. Only have 5 minutes to play? Go out and mine for 5 minutes to work up some cash. Or take a sidejob. Or head to a cantina and do some trading. All of these things you can do in a very short period of time. Have more time to play? Start working on the main storyline, or go exploring in different star systems to see if you can find some hidden system with some rare pricey equipment etc. that you can sell for mucho $$.

Anyway, that combination of being able to accomplish something in 5 minutes along with having great depth and longer missions makes for a fantastic sandbox style game on a mobile device.

Obviously Aralon is a sandbox style rpg from what we’ve seen/read so far. I believe Aralon is going to be great from what I’ve seen, but my fear is that it will not have the ability to do anything in those 5 minute increments which, after playing GoF 2 I find is so key to having a good experience with mobile sandbox-style games.

My hope would be that maybe you do have at least a few mini-games where I could go in and work on my archery (could probably do something similar to the GoF mining game here) or spell-casting or hand-to-hand etc., or something to make some cash…anything similar to the sandbox gameplay of GoF 2 that provides opportunity for both great depth and longer gameplay along with the ability to accomplish something in 5 minutes or less…that to me would be the ideal gameplay experience for Aralon.

    Anyway…just a thought ;)
