But the Iphone as well as the Ipod Touch should be able to compete at least with PSP Games. I think I only need to mention God of War; Chains of Olympus, Monster Hunter Freedom etc... No game of this platform reaches nearly the graphical quality of a PSP Game. Psp : Max : 333mhz !!! Even if the graphic chip is weaker, there should be free room to go upstairs . I do not want to say I only play a game because of the graphics. I still like to play Morrowind or Gothic, wheras I have a Quad Core. So devs. Get some variations in your world, many different looking faces, many different animals etc... This game finally seems to reach these variations, so I am happy the devs put a lot of work in this Rpg. I am looking forward to the announcement of the beta test. It would be an honor to help
yes and your help with xenome was a huge help squarezero. what i was trying to say with my posts was that i want to see more about aralon rather then just reading posts on what is in it. And i am very excited about aralon and xenome coming out. I think games like these are exactly what the genre needs right now....no more crappy fart apps or another zombie game.
While I agree with some of what you are saying it's important to realise that the games you have indicated have had large portions of money and time funnelled into them by large developers/publishers on a reasonably established piece of tech. The iDevices are (loosely) more of an indie scene, and games on the device will possibly reflect this. The PSP was built from the ground up for gaming.
Of course ! But I think it would be possibe to make a graphical stunning game and to sell it for 20$ or higher . With apps like TomTom we can see high priced apps can work... In germany it is always in the top25 in the third group(umsatzstärkste apps). While younger people , pff.. don t know.. under an age of 16, often do not want to pay more than 3$, this will be a hit for those over 16... And if the devs reduce the price, you can always see massive sales. (Gameloft And ea sales were a massive succes, they made far more money, even if the price was lower than before... But I already said that I am very happy with the visuals of this game.
More to the point, there really is nothing quite like Aralon (western RPG, open world) on either the PSP or the DS. Bethesda was working on one for the PSP but abandoned the project; other big RPGs are Japanese and either turn-based and/or not open world.
It isn't possible to sell a game for $20 in this market yet. The most expensive game that sold well was chaos rings for $13 USD. Barring that single game the current high point is $10. In other types of applications, whose customer base are normally older, and in many cases designed for business use, the price point goes up. RDP/VNC/LogMeIn, the ocassional office suite editor, and gps are the exceptions to app pricing, not the rule. Without the need to pay for hardware distribution prices drop like a lead weight, meaning its a question of optimizing price to distribution. For games with lots of mainstream press(I don't mean on TA: as much as we as a community think we are the be all and end all of iphone games, we really aren't average users: we will spend money on the device like theres nothing else out there, and we read everything there is to know about every game there is to know about) it is easy to charge higher, because more people will already know about it. Capcom seems to think the optimal price point for a high end game like this is between $7 and $10. If Capcom, a well known developer with tons of press, can't push the limit up yet, an indie game like Aralon will have a hard time doing so, regardless of whether or not it deserves it(and kudos to the developers: it looks gorgeous, and if the team behind it is any indicator, it will enjoy a permanent status on my ios device). As far as sales are concerned, it worked for EA and gameloft because they waited long enough post release that their sales figures were already dropping to negligent numbers. By dropping their prices to bargain bin prices they pushed their apps high enough in the charts that once again they would get recognition in the top 25 Once the sale ended they would continue to make money at full pricing. But they had to make enough money to cover costs and then some before this could happen. The sale was to push them up again after successful runs. I still find it fascinating how many apps have the opposite approach: reward early adopters with sales and then don't ever drop the price again: I don't know if this is a reaction to the ecosystem of release a product as fast as possible and update/fix it as it goes or what, but its definitely a wholly unique selling strategy(this doesn't even happen on steam)
Art is one of the most important features of any games for which art is used as a selling point, especially 3D RPG-type games (what are they, anyway, considering the creative debt owed to previous titles and that their stories and mechanics are seldom original?). If this upcoming title had to be visually reworked in order to be competent in the marketplace, then its visuals will indeed be the elements being critiqued the most, since they are presumably what kept people waiting. Portable devices are unlimited if imagination exists to bring the entertainment in line with system possibilities. It would be possible to create a massive 3D wire-frame world with story-lines, puzzles, and novel mechanics in abundance, if only imaginations were not so limited relative to their financial motivations.
Right and even Bethesda's project (assuming you're referring to the psp version of oblivion) was going to be much more linear than the other TES games, due to the system limitations.
Here is a pretty good summary of what Aralon has to offer: http://touchaholics.com/2010/07/06/aralon-sword-and-shadow-screenshots-and-feature-list-revealed/ - Over 30 hours of gameplay - Explore a massive world with different regions - Customize your characters appearance - 4 Character Classes - 3 Playable Races: Humans, Elves, and Trolls - A primary quest and multiple, optional side-quests - Hundreds of items to acquire and wield - Comprehensive Inventory System - Battle various enemies that use different fighting tactics - Faction system, herb gathering, crafting potions and magical items, dual-wielding, lockpicking and more - Acquire a mount for fast travel throughout the kingdom I've been following this thread since it began, and I'd say that this list is a pretty good representation of what to expect. Now, granted, the devs can and probably still will add more to their game (no complaints from me), so this is by no means a definitive "be all, end all" list of course. Hopefully this at least helps answer your original question about its content though. Oh, and on a side note, I'm really looking forward to Xenome's release tomorrow as well!! That game looks freakin' epic! With it being like Fallout 3 and Aralon being like Oblivion, iDevice gaming is starting to reach a WHOLE new level!!
Aralon also has a lot of features oblivion didn't have - such as dual-wielding, item crafting, pets, etc. Pretty excited for this; probably will be the best portable rpg made so far on any platform..
i started following this forum as soon as i heard about the graphics being reworked by the ravensword team. then i went back and read through all of the forum pages. I am steadily becoming more amazed at the ammount of depth this game has to offer, (haveing never played any console games of this type)... i like to consider myself a finisher, but i play games quite slow, (haveing not beat ww yet) so i'm hoping that even after i beat the main storyline aralon it will still provide hours of enjoyment leveling up my charector and exploring. exploring was one of the things i loved the most about ravensword.
The world is many times larger than Ravensword, and there are many more quests, items, NPCs, guilds, etc. So yeah, there will be plenty to do after you finish the main quest (which is also many times larger than the one in Ravensword ).
I can just see it, me going on exploring/hunting/leveling trips out from the villages and town to conqour the wilderness. question: is there a map of some sort?
And do You have to buy it or You are equipped with it from the very beginning? Not that I'm comparing or somaething, but in Gothic (yes, the time has come - we compare portable games to PC games) You had to buy it for pretty good price...
After this game is released I'm going to have no time to do anything else. I'll be struggling to find time to play Warfare Incorporated (RTS), Archetype (FPS), and this (RPG); the three main game genres.
