I sympathize with you completely. I've been nickled-and-dimed to death by some of these types of games, and don't wish to copy that model. Necronomicon starts out with over 80 cards (no duplicates), not including the ones you'll be able to win/earn through playing. And you will never be buying duplicate cards should you opt to get one of our expansion packs. I think the fairest way to distribute rare cards is through winning high scores and achievements, so that's how we're going to structure it.
Haha! The snarling behemoth from below the sea has caught up to you, yes? Flee as you wish, but you will never escape! The book has been opened, and there will be no return. May you replace missing staff with all haste. Did you provide the proper tribute? Do not anger those who are older than the myths of savage gods.
Our tribute: Ad Memorium Cthulhi Gloriam Role-Playium! ("To the glory of the memories of Cthulhu role-playing!")
We plan on releasing a cool video, and some new material and screenshots by the end of the week. So keep an eye out on for those. After that, we're going to be doing our best to put the final touches on the game, so we can submit it for reviews and the Appstore in early August. And, of course, we'll also be here on the forums in the meantime, where who knows what we'll post day to day. Thanks!
HI Dustin, I really like your approach on Rares and Duplicates. I am QUITE excited to see this one surfacing. Can you give a short info on winning and losing cards? e.g. You just loose cards during the game, not really? and for Lovecraft reading I REALLY can recommend this app: http://itunes.apple.com/de/app/h-p-lovecraft-collection/id314235496?mt=8 It´s a bit on the short side for features, but it IS complete indeed. And what more can you ask for. cheers
Release Date Dustin, I know you said that it might be released in August but is that for sure? Do you have an actual day of release yet?
Necronomicon Release Sorry for the lack of updates but I've been on the road traveling for the past few weeks with limited Internet access. The Necronomicon is essentially finished, however my programmer is having problems with their Mac hardware, and is in the process of getting some new equipment shipped to them. So I'm really at the mercy of the postal system and time it will take to get the new hardware up and running, so we can implement the final build and submit to the appstore. At this point I'm probably more annoyed than anyone that I can't get an actual release date to post due to circumstances beyond my control. I apologize for the inconvenience and I'll keep you posted here on our progress. Hopefully it will not be much longer. Thanks for your patience, Dustin Neff
Hello! No, you won't lose any cards from the game permanently. Some cards get recycled back into the deck if you draw them and cannot use them at the time, so there's a chance that they will appear again later when you can use them. Some cards are scripted to work with other specific cards, for example, so if you can't use them when they're drawn they're shuffled back into the deck. And some cards may only be used once during a game, then are removed from the deck. Other cards are duplicates, so they will appear again and again, and represent something very helpful like strengthening one of your player-investigator cards, or instantly banishing a monster of your choosing from the game board. The rare cards you'll have a chance to win for free will be unlocked through high scores and achievements, and automatically added to your deck. I'll deliver new cards to win via updates to the game. Also thanks for the tip, I'll check the Lovecraft story collection app out! I have one planned in the works myself for iBooks and print pub which I hope to release on H.P. Lovecraft's birthday next year. Regards, Dustin Neff
why not? nothing better than munching on masses of followers acquired through evil means - like an innocent looking iPhone game.
Update from planet Yuggoth Word is that by next week the hardware upgrade should hopefully be resolved and final testing and implementation should be getting underway. I have it on the authority of an unnamable source that a Mi Go with a Mac OS stuffed into its brain cylinder has been dispatched from the planet Yuggoth and is flying through the ether of space to deliver it to my beleaguered programmer. Let's hope the little flying fungoid-polyp can slip past Hastur (or "he who is not to be named") and has a safe journey! One upside to the seemingly endless delays is I keep thinking up new stuff to add to the game, which I think you'll all really dig. Thanks!
...Sorry, I'm still waiting on the latest build to test out...Good news is that at least we've got the hardware now and are back in business again! If it's some consolation, the UI visuals are being ramped up in the meantime, and I'm putting in a game-changing feature so you won't have to wait for the next update to get it...which involves traveling to another plane of existence for a climatic battle against one of the Old Ones. I hope to get that implemented next week. You're going to be getting a much bigger game than I'd originally planned, which I hope will stay on peoples home screens for a long time. Thanks, Dustin Neff
Okay I went through all the posts yet I still haven't got a solid clue how the game is played (or did I miss a post?). Can you explain some of the mechanics or possibly make a short video of a playthrough?
I'm very sorry for the delays in getting this out, but we're implementing two MAJOR enhancements to the game, which were originally going to be planned for future updates months from now. But now you'll be getting them within a few weeks instead. You'll be glad when you hear what they're going to be, and I'll post some previews of artwork as soon as it gets back to me.
We'll have full previews, videos, and reviews and all that out soon, which will go into greater detail when the game's released. But in general, the game's a hybrid of most role-playing, trading card, and board games. You'll play as investigators which need to be built up, as in traditional RPGs. There's no absolutes, nearly all the game play is driven by dice rolls, strategy, and the abilities and potentials of your investigators. There's also a secondary game board - like a game within a game - where you'll have to search for hidden items while surviving various encounters and challenges, and collecting rewards along the lines of a traditional board game. The goal of the game is to survive and build your investigators up enough that they will be able to enter into a final, climactic battle with the Old Ones...and prevent them from threatening the entire world. I'll post some new screen shots and material as soon as it becomes available to me.
