Hey, I am growing white hair everyday ....waiting and waiting for Amazon to bring down the price of kindle. Yes - for heavens sake I know about all its benefits and negatives and I also know that they have improved what its got to offer. More than anything I long to read as I travel with just that light, free wireless devise.....especially due to my bad vision. I've got a dear friend with one and boy - how I long to own one too BUT the price!!!!. I know quite a number of you folks already have the new one. I am seriously wondering - Is it worth the price now??? Can I take the plunge and buy or continue the wait?:
I don't know if you want the Kindle, but I believe they have an app that turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into a Kindle-type reader.
If you want to read kindle books, there is a free app by amazon. http://appshopper.com/books/kindle-for-iphone
If you've ever used a Kindle, the iPhone App really is no comparison. I'm glad they're committed to getting their eBooks on other platforms, but it's impossible to compare a massive e-ink display to a tiny phone display. An yeah, I couldn't agree more with babyface. I wish the Kindle was more affordable. As it stands right now with a $400 price tag, I really just can't rationalize buying one. On top of that, the price of their eBooks are usually higher than a paperback, which makes absolutely no sense to me. But the Kindle is new technology, which is always expensive and on top of that the publishing industry is an ancient dinosaur stuck in their old ways and price points. I'm sure there's a happy medium that we'll see somewhere in the distant future... I think it's pretty funny how content providers, whether they're selling books, music, or movies, still don't quite totally "get" this whole internet thing. Publishers could be selling their eBooks at remarkable quantity and profit margins by catering to impulse buyers just like the App Store all the while not having the overhead of wasting paper, binding books, shipping books, dealing with the whole reseller chain, etc. I have no doubt that Amazon has the same clout in the publishing world as Apple has in the music world to allow the iTunes store to exist. Give Jeff Bezos a few years and I bet you'll start seeing Kindles everywhere.
