Its funny that half the time the enemy aircraft crash into each other or shoot each other in "friendly fire" incidents. I think its great. I don't think I'd be able to survive 12-14 waves otherwise. Managed to get to wave 15 but promptly died. What a fantastic game. I wonder if devs have plans for additional updates or a new game. Second game with WW2 era planes would be great. Regarding the controls, I found that you can actually play the game in any position. Your biplane stays in the same position on the screen and the rest of the world spins around it. So you can actually play it holding it vertically. Can't think of anything that would make the game better. Of course, different unlockable aircraft and skins would be great, but I imagine great deal of work for the devs.
Any lite version? I am unsure about being forced to use tilt controls on ipad... Is there no virtual dpad?
i dislike tilt controls in almost all games that don't involve a ball rolling around, just a mental thing for me i guess. i too think this game would be much funner (for me at least) if there was a dpad. still though, the game is beautiful, wish there was some big solo campaign to tie it all together.
There is no need for D-pad as the camera is always in the same position behind the plane. Its not a dual stick shooter where camera is in one place and aircraft moves around. Here camera follows the aircraft. You can actually play the game as if it was a racing game - only tilting side to side. D-pad will simply obscure the environment. Don't reject this game just because of tilt controls.
i don't like tilt too,but this game implements it perfectly. can't even imagine d-pad here and don't want to ,really
Reached level 20 which I think is a top one. I have another suggestion: enemies should spawn outside of the play area. It looks a bit weird when one enemy plane explodes and another appears in tis place out of thin air. Not a huge deal though. I have difficulties finding people to play with. I had only one dogfight so far. C'mon people! It would be great to know dev's plans for this game or perhaps a future game. I'd pay top dolar for WW2 themed game.
I just lost all my progress. The game could not connect to GC. After couple of waves the game became really laggy. I turned it off and did a hard reboot on my 4th gen iPod touch. When I started it again all the profiles and progress were gone. I hope devs can investigate this.
Thanks for reporting this, our programmer will look into it. It would be good if you could PM me with your email address so he can ask extra questions if needed. Regards, lauri ad / treehouse ltd
I have one delicious promo code available, generously provided by the developer for sharing some feedback he must've found valuable. If you know of a friend who you think would dig this brand of shooter or just yourself, shoot me off a PM with a short explanation. My entourage isn't cool enough to handle Dogfight 1951. They'd rather waste their time posting on Facebook or fooling around in Angry Birds, or whatever.
Game Impressions After spending some time on this, I thought I'd write down my thoughts on the game, as well as what could be improved. The good: The best accelerometer controls I've seen on this platform. Seriously, it's incredible how good tilt feels. And I hate tilt controls! But this handles so beautifully that any dev that wants to use tilt controls should be forced to study this game. The setting is pretty damn fun. Who wouldn't love an anachronistic future of WWII-era bi-plane dogfights. After playing enough tower defense and infinite runner games, this is a complete breath of fresh air.Gotta' say that I like the upgrades. Lets you choose more and more how you want to fight, whether as a gun-toting powerhouse, or as a more agile pilot. The graphics are beautiful. Guns rattle across the screen, there's flak and fog. The planes go down in incredible blazes of glory. Can I mention the controls again? Just spot on. Everything from the nice over-sized "fire" button, to the way the throttle operates. There's some easy on screen gestures too, just to make it more awesome. The Bad: The gameplay seems incredibly well-balanced, but it also becomes incredibly boring quickly. Despite the ability to initiate all sorts of loops and barrel rolls--as well as a damage boost incentive to do so--there's really no need. Most, if not all, of your enemies can be downed by slowing down behind them and just matching their turns while riddling them full of holes. This starts out as entertaining, but but it becomes boring quickly. Perhaps at high levels you'll need to do something more, but most of the time it's just circle around, slow down, shoot, shoot, heal, repeat. Given the amazing control scheme, there should be more reason to actually do stuff. On the same issue, there's the problem with deaths. Despite it being a flying game, I mostly ended up dying from mid-air collisions. This is partly caused by enemy planes warping into the middle of the battlefield (sky?), and partly given the way the AI seems programmed. It's not bad, specifically, but it makes me feel more like I'm playing Death Rally rather than a game involving airplanes. There's a definite lack of modes here. Off the bat they offer a survival mode, and a mode in which you face waves of aircraft. What the difference is between these modes, is never really made clear. In fact, they both play pretty much identically. There's multiplayer, which I haven't tried yet, but it's not a big deal for me. The game is really screaming for a campaign mode. Or if they want to keep it randomly generating enemies, then there ought to be more distinction between the planes you face. Think about Steambirds: Survival as a game that implemented this rather well. There's some additional minor gripes: the radar doesn't do a good job of showing you where enemy planes are. The three playable characters (classes?) aren't very different at all, and their perks (skills) are less about making choices, and more about beefing up your plane. Also, enemy planes seem to shoot each other as well as me. Is this intended? Or are they just suicidal? Also, there's a cool move where you can yank your throttle to use your afterburners, but it requires a bit too much yanking to pull off properly. And what does "engine damage" mean anyways? Overall it's an original and thoroughly enjoyable game. I hope the devs continue to support it, especially to balance out the gameplay. It's difficult rationalizing some of their brilliant decisions, like having your guns overheat with prolonged firing(!), with some of their less brilliant moves--like the plodding gameplay, and the AI that can't shake you once you get behind their plane.
Damn! You got me excited for a minute! I thought this was back on the AppStore. Lol Definitely one of my all time favs. I loved this game.
It's not available anymore. Not even in your purchased history if you originally bought it. Shame. This game is a classic.
