When I worked there, I was working on a nascar game for the PS1... This project got canned when the license fell through - this game would of been awesome if it had been released. I think we had about 30 or 40 cars going around the tracks... It was fun watching all the cars crash into each other if there was a pile up at the front of the pack I think Christopher moved back to Perth a few years ago (him been Australian) and I emigrated to Australia (Melbourne), nearly four years ago... Thinking about all this seems a long time ago now, Jesus maybe ten years...
Apparently lack of challenge was never a problem with Driver (never played it before, so I'm going by other's comments). From other videos I've seen, this most recent one looks like it's early in the game -- perhaps traffic increases progressively from mission to mission.
The original PS1 version didn't have a massive amount of traffic. It was widely regarded as a tough game though. The reason was the AI of the cops was pretty brutal and some missions were simply tough in terms of the requirements (such as time limits, no damage or what-not). Also the fact that most relatively small offences (such as jumping a red light, driving on wrong side of the road etc) could get you noticed by the cops and they start hunting you down. This is seen in the STP video pt2. EDIT: here's a ps1 clip on youtube.
Here's another preview, this time from Destructoid. What they said is quite interesting though. That could help explain some of the difficulty questions people were asking about if the videos were recorded on easy setting.
Yeah I've read that destructoid preview.... quite interesting. What other iPhone gaming blogs get hands-on videos?
TouchGen normally do, but all they've posted about it so far is in their weekly roundup, here. They said they liked the tilt control. That gives me hope! Below is what they said.
You are a weird character wundaii...really quite weird...Lol oj I also want to know how exactly that driver will make it out for Christmas! I havnt even hears of it being submitted, or have I missed something ?
Have you heard of any Gameloft game being submitted? They seem to keep that information secret (with the possible exception of the big MC:S update, which is supposedly in review right now).
