It's waiting for review now. We believe that crash is related to GameCenter, try logging out of GameCenter and restarting the application.
@PMasher: is character transfer possible with the upcoming patch? I started to play DD on my iPad, is it possible to get my chars over to my iPhone? Would LOVE this feature!!
PMasher, regarding the question I asked two pages back: are you certain the inclusion of Gamespy will not cause the patch to be disapproved (and thus voiding all opportunities for cross-platform play)? The idea would never have crossed my mind on its own (as a journalist, it is not my place to actually know ), but a developer contact mentioned Apple are very stingy about approving gaming networks of Gamespy's size and distribution (as opposed to small, iOS-specific ones, such as OpenFeint and Plus+), possibly for fear of GameCenter competition, etc. I might be completely off my game now (see previous paragraph's comment about being a journalist ), but isn't the idea of this kind of cross-platform play that the characters are actually saved in the cloud, MMO-style, meaning that they will be present on whatever iOS/android/Windows account you log into Dungeon Defenders on?
We don't know for sure, but we don't anticipate a problem. We still use many of Game Center's functions even when users are using Game Spy. As such, all this will do is take a load off of Game Center's servers. In that respect, we don't think Apple will mind. In this update the characters aren't available in the cloud, just cross-platform play between iOS and Android over Game Spy is there.
If Apple allows companies to use their own servers then I do not see where an issue would arise when it comes to you all using the GameSpy servers. I just hop that they have a few servers in Albany NY. I usually have a pretty high ping when playing on their servers from my house. Whereas in my city apt. I have a very low ping...odd as both cities are relatively close to my average distance from them (if that makes any sense)
Here's to hope, then Will our characters eventually migrate to the cloud, thus allowing us to play on any account that is part of the cross-platform exchange? (If I've understood correctly, Windows is, while XBLA and PSN are not.) This would elevate Dungeon Defenders further, as one of the first (though not THE first) iOS games we can play on our Mac/PC, and then pick up where we left off a few minutes later on the bus. It seems to me it would fit the Dungeon Defenders concept eminently.
Gameloft uses their own Gameloft live for multiplayer, so I don't see any reason why Apple would reject the update because of GameSpy.
The reason I was given (which was more of a misgiving and a suspicion) is that Gamespy is large, and, perhaps more importantly, an established cross-platform network. Gameloft Live, just like the networks I mentioned in my previous comment (OpenFeint and Plus+), is an iOS-specific network (while Gameloft have branched out into Android, there isn't as far as I know, any cross-platform play with Android at this moment). If you think that sounds too random or too anal, recently, I was told by the devs of FastPDF+ that they had to remove the wood panel background in their PDF reader, since Apple would not allow ANY bright brown wood panel graphics in an PDF/e-book reader. Apple are *very* protective of what they perceive as their strengths, and very careful to let anything intrude upon their in-house solutions. In the case of GameSpy, that asset and solution would be GameCenter, even though it has not cross-platform play.
I believe Pocket Legends has cross-platform play between iOS and Android, so I don't think that in and of itself is an issue.
Yer right. Another good reason to keep our hopes up How about characters eventually migrating completely to the cloud? :
Thanks for the answer, thats exactly what i was looking for. I really cant wait to play this game , im waiting the update to play it again and level up all my char! Im still gonna pick it up for the PC as soon as its available. Cant wait to play on a full UI with a mouse.
I think that Games For Windows Live can play against Xbox Live games, but maybe it costs money to be GFWL certified. Shadowrun could play PC against Xbox 360, but PC players were crippled because it was an FPS. The game was not successful on either platform.
But for some reason I prefer to play FPS on my laptop. Weird right? But I doubt DD would use Windows Live! Like they said, the cross-platform play isn't supported by the consoles, so there is no need to use windows live. I bet they'll use something like Steam.
I have been debating on if i should get this app or not because of some of the negative reviews (most were because of crashing). But, since the patch is coming out soon, I had better get it before the price increase! Add me on GC: ADTRNINJA
