A user on twitter has mentioned using the following tool to recover his data:

"First I used the Backup Extractor (available at http://supercrazyawesome.com/), and located the com.trendyent.dundef entry and then clicked extract:

That created a directory, com.trendyent.dundef, and in that folder there is a "Documents" folder. In there, is DunDefHeroes.dun. Since I backed up my phone before updating to Dungeon Defenders 4.2, I was able to retrieve this.

Now to put this file back onto the phone, I tried using iPhone Explorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/):

You can simply just drag in the backed up version of DunDefHeroes.dun into this folder and it will put it on the phone. Which in the current release, does not work; the character data is always not correctly read. But when the new update is approved by Apple, this method will be usable in order to restore the backed up data.

Hopefully some of your other users will find this useful! If this is going to be posted, and people have already synced their phones (so the backup in iTunes has the corrupt hero data backed up), they should be able to restore their iTunes iPhone backups from a Time Machine backup if they want, and then they can get their character data back with the aforementioned programs."

Once again, I haven't tried this, but I hope it can be of help for some of you!

I am extremely disappointed with this game, especially after this update. I thought I would finally be able to play this game. I've been waiting since day one to play this and after so many tries, I'm not even bothering to update anymore. Interesting fact: I have almost never regretted a purchase from the App Store because I'm so careful with what I buy. But the first regret was Aralon. And this is the second.

Everything about that says that it should work. But it should be noted the prgram is only for Mac.

The app is $3 (and for some people, $1). Can you honestly say you've been ripped off? As far as fixing the lag goes: semi-3D environment on more or less 1024x768 resolution? It's a hardware limitation as well as a software one.

Are these methods approved/authorized by Trendy Entertainment? Because if it goes wrong and something else gets broken by doing what is being pasted (and wasn't tested by the people that made the game)... that would upset even more people.

Can anyone help me on this? Do I need to change the filename or sumthing?

They are not approved/authorized per say, but users are having success in getting their characters back with them. They are simply methods of restoring previous data from iDevices. Here's a thread from trendyent:

Well, for the first time in a while I actually sat down and played a level. I bought the game around the time it launched, played a couple of days then stopped, didn't really actually try 2.0 (just opened for a couple of seconds, noticed the graphic lag when playing in high quality on an iPhone 4).

So, I must say that I haven't experienced crashes or anything (I did notice the movie warning at the beginning, so I turned it off). I was not affected by the character wipe thing because I previously deleted my characters (they weren't that high anyway).

The first level, easy difficulty, didn't lag at all. The only lag I noticed was back when I was at the bar (I keep forgetting the name) and opened dialogs (like the guy that is standing there); for some reason it felt that it lagged.

So, at least on my side, the update was good. Not sure if it's possible, but further optimization would be great!

Edit: Really looking forward to the PS3 version. ;)

I see the lag issue post-level too. I exit and kill the app, then reload it and it's cleared up again.

I got quit a few lag hiccups while playing. Even after a reinstall, restart, and reload it still was kind of crummy.

Way better than the first version.

Yeah they need to fix the lag. They need to find a way to make us fully happy in the game for once.

Can't find any games to join via GameCenter. :(
Really interested in actually playing the game. Wonder if this update actually fixed the godawful lag.
