Haha, this next one is great. I just got to the level right past the subway and completely ran out of ammo on all three of my equipped weapons. No more drops and no way to kill the vampires or lawyers since, well, no more ammo. This shouldn't be possible, especially with the fact that I can't go and equip my bat or club since I can't get to the shop without quitting the game. I think it might be time for this gamer to shelve this title until some serious tweaks are made.
SumoSplash, I understand your frustration, but the fact that you've just beaten the subway level shows me that you keep on playing, despite this frustration. Perhaps the game is not as unbalanced as you're making it out to be If you beat the game and replay it, the first levels will look too easy. Heck, if you go back to level 1 right now you'll probably find it boring. Then line between challenging and frustrating is indeed a fine one, and I'll try to improve on those cheap attacks, as well as do everything else that was previously mentioned. I'm sorry if the game isn't 100% to your liking, but I'll keep on learning till I die, and even after reading this http://artofgamedesign.com/ cover to cover many times, I'm still pretty sure that I won't be able to make a game that everyone likes. But I'll keep trying Once more, thanks for your input. It's really valuable for me, since you appear to fit the ideal description of the typical iOS gamer (not casual gamer).
Of course it's possible, life isn't fair. Sometimes you get lemons. Other times you get ammo. Tweaks are coming, but it'll take a while. BTW, can you tell me how old you are? I'm curious
Oh, don't get me wrong, I like the game. I like this genre in general. However, I do feel some balance tweaks will push it from where it is to the next level. I look forward to seeing where you take it and I hope I've been helpful.
Most games where ur character levels up involves somemgrinding. That's part of this game, grinding for xp and money. It's really not that bad. Survival mode for xp, I suggest the dance floor level for money. The problem is you, no offense but I had no trouble on that level and rarely ever ran out of ammo for long. I can recognize when a game is just too tough or i just need to do something different or better. Also u said u can't go back to the shop without quitting, but its a few min of backtracking at worst, it's really not that bad. Quit the level, maybe even play 10 min of survival mode to gain a few levels and get some stats, then reeqip and tackle the level again. Satisfaction of beating a hard level is the best part of this game.
So you're telling me that I am allowed to go into a level with three weapons of my choice, use all of my ammo up and then sit there with no choice other than to die? And then if I want to change my stats I have to quit the game just to get to the shop? Interesting And I'm supposed to go to Survival mode so I can beef up enough to beat campaign? To me, each mode is self-contained.
Even I screamed a lot at the game at some point, and when stuff like getting killed with one enemy to go happened more than once, I knew I had nailed the difficulty level. I did this because I can still remember the exhilaration I felt when I was able to finish the first Halo game, and was able to escape the final level, in the final second, after days of attempting it. To get this feeling from a $0.99 game is something that's rare in the app store. Hopefully some of you will remember Fangz for this
Joining this because I'm nosy. Here we go...sumo splash is a likely street fighter reference, prob played a bit growing up of sf2. He enjoys bullet hell shooters wich are old school. I'm gonna say sumosplash is 26 yrs old.
If I had to guess a number: 28. That would justify the articulation you're demonstrating by discussing this with me while at the same time fit with someone that missed part of those amazingly difficult games played on ZX Spectrum or Amiga. If you had played those games, you'd find Fangz refreshing Now, am I right about your age? I'm 37 btw
This. I don't like having to interrupt the campaign mode to go grind on another one. I'm not a hardcore gamer like I used to be but I'm pretty good and I'm getting frustrated with this game too. The last game that got me really hooked, God of Blades (I bought it much later than most here) I finished the campaign and then went to the other modes.
I'll try God of Blades before I tweak Fangz, so that I can know what you mean. I can finish Fangz just in the campaign mode, but I purposely mixed campaign and survival because I know I'm not your typical gamer. When I look at it from a distance, I guess I made a game I'd like to play. Perhaps I was a bit selfish Tweaks will come. Hopefully before you delete the game.
Thank you Kioshi Well, asking my age has definitely taken this discussion into the bizarre, but if you must know, I am going to be 35 this September. I've been around the block with games And yes, of course SumoSplash is a reference to Street Fighter, back when I was playing Champion/Turbo in the arcades as a kid If you question my ability to assess the game that's your prerogative, whatever my age is. I'm just being honest It is a forum after all, and this is a hot new game
No, I'm not questioning your ability to assess the game at all, I'm merely trying to place myself in your shoes so that I can better tweak the game. Is asking your age that bizarre? I guess Portugal is indeed a lot less complicated than the US
What I don't get is that you keep saying "quit the game" as if you have to start all over from stage 1 or that it sets u back all this time. Some stages have a few segments at most, prob 3 min tops, just doesn't seem worthy of a gripe. Also the point of the game is to have a melee weapon as backup for when u run out of ammo. About the self contained part. The modes are not self contained because they carry over. Meaning ur xp and money, now if you couldn't earn campaign xp and gold from survival, THEN I'd say the modes were self contained. Did anyone play zombieville USA 2??? That game was a ton of grinding, it's just what's done in basically any game that involves leveling to get stronger. 31, so yea.
Nah, not bizarre. It would be bizarre if you asked me what my favorite ice cream is and if I like long walks on the beach But to summarize my stance on the game: Tweaks. The template for an excellent game is most definitely there. When this is tuned up, it will be an excellent game. I don't feel you should ever run out of ammo, or have to reset your game to get to a shop, or go farm or grind in one mode to improve stats for another mode. These kinds of things are holding me back from enjoying this as much as I could be. PM me if you want to talk further so I can avoid getting kicked off the forum for too many posts
The game is awesome. You'll probably find God of Blades too easy since I didn't even die many times in the campaign, , but I find it a bit frustrating to be not be able to see new enemies and stuff unless I grind (and even then I find the timers a bit harsh), just used GoB as an example since I love it and there are additional high score modes that you can play for a break or after you beat the campaign. If i didn't love this game I wouldn't bother commenting, it's not leaving my devices and I'm thinking about getting the sd version because my iPhone is kinda starved on space. But no biggie, I think another difficulty mode where the timers are more forgiving would be a big step, call it "sissy mode" or whatever I don't mind lol. But I like most of Sumosplash's suggestions like being able to start at level 2-2 for example, that would make it easier to play for a few minutes at a time. Anyway, personally, the timer is the thing that frustrates me the most for now (I'd love to access the shop between stages too). But this is my game of the week no question
Ok, ONE more response, then I'm done. Yes, if you start a level and want to get to the shop, you have to quit the game. There is no option to access the shop unless you finish a level. I view the modes as being self-contained, whether the stats carry over or not. I look at it as there is no survival mode. You shouldn't have to interrupt one mode to play another to play another. Yes, Zombieville 2 is fantastic and grinding is not the issue here. This is about balance. Ok, I'm done. Whew. PM me if you want.
Just a quick question, why would the stats only effect jumping ? Wondering why upgrading stats won't impact things like ammo count, weapon damage or something more substantial. Just an idea... Looks like strength and firepower are only used as weapon purchase requirement. And the ammo drop probably needs to increased / tweaked. Some games I so fine but others I just run out of ammo too quickly.
