"There's a bit of a problem, though: Fangz HD isn't particularly well balanced."--Matt Wales, Pocket Gamer
You need to kill the hulks fast to make it in time. I suggest the tweeter powered up. It's like an aoe that spreads out from ur character and kills stuff. Can kill hulks as well as provide an oh shit button near the end. Try to quickly switch to bean bowl after killing hulks to chomp a few while moving then back to ur gun. Tip: u can tap the gun icon as well as scroll.
Your's and Matt's imbalances I just got a message from a guy at PocketGamer (Contest Chris) that views my words and interprets them as me making my audience feel small while thinking I'm a hell of a great person. This is not at all what I'm meant with my remarks regarding the skill needed to beat Fangz. I'm here, putting myself at the same level or below everyone else, trying to learn from my mistakes so that I can do a better game. My view of myself? I don't take myself too seriously... I do take my work seriously though. In my view, a challenge is not a challenge if everyone can overcome it. The love/hate reactions I'm getting to this game are exactly the hate/view reactions that hard games I loved to play got, except that in those times they weren't as amplified as this. If any of my comments seemed unfair or offensive, that wasn't my intention at all. I'm a gamer, like all of you, and I'll keep on learning till I die. I'll be wrong a lot more times in the future, but that's how most people learn. Hopefully I can correct my mistakes, to be able to make new mistakes in the future. Cheers, Alex
I seriously doubt that the reviewer on 148apps spent more than 5 minutes with the game. I mean, just read his review...
SlidetoPlay Review http://www.slidetoplay.com/review/fangz-review/ 2 out of 4 "For the most part, Fangz is a fun and humorous take on the side-scrolling beat-’em-up genre. But, as any fan of the genre knows, continuing is pretty much part of the experience, and even without the other factors working against you, this game just gets that part so, so very wrong. As a result, we advocate caution when considering a purchase." Those other factors were glitches, jumping taking health, too aggressive enemies
wow man you make a fantastic game and the reviews are terrible makes me think the reviews want a game with a I win button.
"Unfortunately, the game can feel a little too aggressive against the player at times...even the simple act of jumping reduces your life further. As a result, attempting to dodge an attack is nothing more than a calculated risk as you weigh what will do more harm to you: trying to avoid the attack by running and failing, or jumping away and losing some life anyway."--David Oxford, Slide to Play Still think it's just my current skill level, Alex?
I really need to give this game a chance, havn't played since it first hit the store. Did so badly against the alien brats that I just gave up.decided to give it another go yesterday same result.anyone have any tips for getting past the alien brats? Thanks
What exactly are you trying to accomplish here? Haven't I already stated repeatedly that I'm adding difficulty levels to widen the game's audience? Yes, the game is too hard for your current skill set. Other people with more skill than you have finished it and enjoyed it. Is it hard to admit that someone may be better than you at something? Or are you hoping to hear me say that yes, because you and many other players haven't finished the game, then the problem is with the game and not the players? Is that it? I'll gladly say it! Yes, there's a problem with the game, because it may feel unbalanced to a part of the audience. Additionally I fully recognise that temporarily taking energy when the player jumps wasn't the best of ideas, and that my intent will be much better implemented with a stamina bar. And yes, there's some unfairness in the vampire's lunging, which I'll most likely also address. But let me add that I purposely did just one difficulty level, so that more dedicated players could get bragging rights when they finish the game. Nowadays that's so rare that it seems to offend some people. You can't imagine how happy I am to get your nagging side coming up, not resisting to throw a line like "Still think it's just my current skill level, Alex?". I'm really happy my game can raise these kinds of emotions. Indifference would be hard, but listening to reactions like yours makes me think that I'll always have an audience that will try to beat Fangz, that unbalanced and unfair game that many failed to beat (at least until the next update ).
Really? But I've said this so many times before. Most likely not this explicitly, but you could easily infer I was doing this. Why else would I be here discussing this with all of you? But ok, I'm glad I could accommodate you.
Not a I win button, but even in consoles it's kinda hard to find a game that ramps up difficulty so much and so suddenly in 15 minutes like Fangz does at stage 2-2 for example.
No. You have claimed that the game is balanced and that it is my skill level which has prevented me from 'beating' the game. Let me explain this: neither assessment is correct. You are now accepting that the vampire lunges are unfair and that the jump health deduction was a questionable decision because the reviews are rolling in claiming the exact same thing I have been saying the whole time. My skill level has nothing to do with this. I chose to stop playing the campaign. If you remember correctly, I beat the level I was on and the game crashed. The crash would have been insignificant if I didn't have to deal with cheap, lunging vampires, jump health deduction and incessantly unforgiving timers. If you would open your eyes, you would see that I like the game besides these flaws. Why else would I be continuing to play it? You can do yourself a huge favor and stop looking at this as an issue of difficulty and accept that word I've been throwing at you: BALANCE. When you do accept it, your game with be both balanced AND difficult.
I hate the bad reviews. I can't help but wonder: if Fangz was a PSN or Xbox Live game, what would the reviews have been like? I think a big problem with the iOS game review sites is that they are geared towards the casual player. A lot of iOS games could be played for ten minutes, and fairly reviewed. Fangz isn't one of those games! Why not play Fangz for one hour before writing a review!?!? Anyways, I definitely feel happy with my purchase of Fangz. It honestly feels like a 9.99 PSN game. . . . How does 10-15 hours of entertainment for $1.99 equal a 2/3 star review? It just doesn't add up (especially when you factor in the quality of the controls, graphics, music, etc)... At least Fangz won Touch Arcade's Game of the Week. I guess people who actually played the game seem like it, so that's something
Nope its not balance, its difficult and thats that. If there are players that can finish it (taking into account you cant just buy your victory) it means that its just too difficult for you. Its rather difficult to me too actually, and I doubt ill finish it as I dont have the time to invest in it to get to the point of mastering its finer points but its a rather good game with an old school level of difficulty, back in the day there were some games I never finished because of their difficult. It happens. Believe me. Its just that gamers today feel entitled to be able to finish every game they buy, and if they cant, its because its broken/unbalaced/crap. Dont take this as a jab to you SS but you could give this a little rest, you've made your points and Alex made his. What im saying is that there's a lot of hard games that make me mad when I play them, i can choose to keep trying or quit but if someone else can finish them I cannot call them unbalanced. P.S. There is people that has finished the game right? =P
