Anyone else on the forum addicted? I'm on level 9 in unlock, and was able to reach level 10 in arcade on easy (good for 2000 pts). Going to try to unlock 10 now...was frustrating the last time I tried, but I have played a bunch of arcade since then and may have gained a bit.
Hey, level 9/10 is doing pretty well already - based on the current high-score list you must be pretty close to the top .... keep at it and the puzzles should become ever easier .... there's no level in the game thats non beatable with enough practice and one hint that may help you - remember that every puzzle has only one unique solution ... you can actually use this knowledge to help you in solving some of the harder puzzles ....
So...if there are two possible flings initially, and only one has a follow up move, the correct sequence is the move with the follow-up, then the follow-up and the move without a follow up can be rejected as either the first or second move? On the third puzzle of level 11 in unlock. Starting to wonder if I'll need a pen and paper eventually to keep track of what I tried.
this logic is starting to sound confusing so a disclaimer for potential new players - this game is really not so complicated to get into .... so i'm not sure if what you're saying is the same, but the way i would put is ... is that it from 'every puzzle is unique', you can infer that if in some position you could do move A and then move B, but doing move B and then move A would also be possible, and both ways leads to the exact same board position, then neither of those are the right move (simply because that puzzle would have been rejected as having 'multiple solutions' when the puzzles were created). By the way, Fling! is now featured by Apple under 'what we're playing' ... so that high-score list should start to get more crowded soon
That is so...although eventually, you will reach a level constructed by the Devil himself for the sole purpose of breaking you down, destroying your sanity, and causing never ending torment. Start sprawling numbers on the walls, speaking in toungues, explore the inner most reaches of your mind and you may solve it. Or just press the hint or skip buttons and come back to it later.
Not sure if its been suggested, but a "high score" list for unlocks would also be neat. I cant imagine too many have unlocked 19 yet. Similarly, a high score list for the timed unlock mode would also be neat.
Yeah, good suggestions - having a high-score list for the timed-unlock mode is something that we've considered, and when we can decide exactly the best way for it to work then we'll definitely add it .... Not sure about a high-score-list for free-play unlocked level ... there probably is a place for some kind of achievements/high-scores for free-play-mode being compared online, but not sure exactly how that would work best ... actually we were thinking of having a 'rating' so as you play in free-play mode you can progress from learner to amateur to profi etc .... and this rating could be compared to other players online and would go up as you solved more harder levels And yeah, I doubt any players have unlocked 19 yet
Here are my level 11 times for each puzzle: 19 min (puzzle 1453) 53 min (puzzle 1243) 73 min + hints (puzzle 2765) 1 min 24 sec (puzzle 160) 2 min 14 sec (puzzle 248) 46 sec (puzzle 2134) 6 min 1 sec (puzzle 557) 5 min 16 sec (puzzle 390) (tried this again for some reason, took 26 min second time) Makes me wonder whether the difficulty algorithm could be fined tuned more, or whether I personally just have trouble spotting certain types of patterns more than others.
Wow, you've really been spending some time on some of those puzzles Its true that the difficulty algorithm could be tuned some more - while the puzzles do on average get harder with each level as you've no doubt noticed (any set of say 6 random puzzles on level 11 should be harder than a set of 6 on level 10 for example), there will be a variation in the difficulty of the individual puzzles within each level ... and while like you see with puzzle 390, a lot of that is that one sometimes also just stumbles on the solution faster, and that different people do get stumped more by certain kinds of puzzles, there is also room for improvement in the algorithm there too. I guess what your post also indicates could be useful (another potential feature that we've in mind) is a way to enter these puzzle-ids in, so you can say challenge friends to try puzzles you find hard or try ones you've gotten stuck on etc?
I probably wouldnt use that, since I dont currently have any "puzzle buddies". I think your feature set is pretty great. The only minor annoyance I have is that puzzles are listed as "solved" in the log if you use a hint. Shouldnt be, since a hint counts as a failure in unlock. And after you "solve" a puzzle you initially failed, again using hints, it shouldnt move to solved either. Basically, if I have trouble with a puzzle, I want to be able to easily find it and practice it as many times as I want without it moving into solved. That and fixing the difficulty algorithm are really the only things on my wish list. One other minor point...I generally think its better practice to only allow each person one score (their best) on each of the global high score lists. Otherwise, the best player can push everyone else way down if they play a lot and post all their scores. This is a skill game after all...there will always be a single best player (or two or three) that can take all the top 20 slots potentially. Minor stuff...I dont think you need to spend a ton of money on the game, its such a polished product already. Gratz on the "what we are playing" listing, hopefully you crack the top 100 now, or at least get high on the puzzle listing.
Thanks again for the suggestions ... Regarding hi-scores preferably only allowing one per player in a given mode (i.e. one per device?) ... this is a request I've heard from a couple of people here now .... with Fuzzle, people didn't seem to mind having multiple-per-player (maybe because there were so many users that no one user tended to dominate any global hi-score lists), but that is something we can change (as well as adding global hi-scores for challenge mode etc) ... Regarding the puzzles being listed as 'solved' if you use a hint - it does note that you 'cheated', however it indeed doesn't allow you to filter by that fact .... The thinking was more that once you've used a hint, you know the solution now, so there's not so much point in trying to go back to solve it like a truly unsolved puzzle (and also because going back to solve a truly unsolved puzzle will improve your stats and reduce the number of puzzles till next unlock, whereas re-solving a previously solved puzzle - whether initially solved with hints or without - doesn't count for anything) .... so we will have to think about what is best there ... the intended (and I believe probably common) use-case is a bit different to yours here ... maybe you're looking more like to be able to flag certain puzzles as 'favorites'?
Well...I dont think that is really accurate, particularly at say 8/9 or above. The puzzles all look alike to a degree, or blend together, and its exceptionally tough to "remember" the solutions for long. Its more about being able to recognize patterns, which may take more then one exposure to learn. I want to be able to practice the ones that stumped me until I can see the solution quickly. That would work, if you could eventually move them out of favorites too. But, to be clear, the current system works for my needs too, just a little more hunting for the puzzles that gave me trouble. So I dont know if its worth the bother. Game is great as is. Even the somewhat rough difficulty curve works well enough in arcade mode...just have know when to use your hints.
ha freaking awesome. I was about to pay 1.99 for this. Not that it wouldn't be worth it(I don't know I haven't played it yet), but I would've been so pissed had I payed full price and a few minutes later the price drops.
Cheap Ass Gamer.... (although I buy plenty of stuff at full price - I certainly have a nicer day when I can get it cheaper...)
