Apple has loosened its grip in the past couple of years. More and more apps are getting through these days that would have been rejected a few years ago. I see their stance as a way of protecting their liability. They seem to be involved in way too many lawsuits these days (albeit mostly on the plaintiff side). I can respect their decision to take the stance they did and I can also appreciate the slip ups like this. If you consider the fact that the other platforms aren't doing nearly as well in terms of sales and apps, they need some sort of an advantage in order to compete. Although its a small advantage, there are probably people out there who own an Android (for example) strictly to play emulated games on their device. IMO that would be pretty sad, but i can see that happening. I have friends who will make all sorts of arguments to own an Android over an iOS device, but i've been down that road and its not fun.
Well if you can find the individual games and want to take the time to test them out one at a time then the more power to you. FYI the .139u1 romset contains over 7000 files and comes in at over 24Gb.
My recommendation, start getting the whole set, tell your program to skip all files and pick and choose which ones you actually want.
All of you are downloading a ~25 gig 0.139u1 romset to pick and choose a few for your phone? I find that hard to believe. 0.139u1 ROMs just aren't out there. Without better compatibility this emulator is useless.
Unfortunately, the only sets I've found are compressed and segmented, meaning I have to download the whole thing.
Keep an eye out for the romset that includes self contained zip files. Then you can pick and choose which files you want and you won't have to worry about dependancies or bios files. Theres one out there, you just have to find it. It was originally released for android, but will work just fine.
It has GREAT compatibility. Stop being negative because you're having a little trouble getting started. Awww another poor guy complaining that he has to download the whole thing. Why don't you PM some people. Maybe one of them will come hand deliver the exact rom that you want on a memory stick so you don't have to be troubled with the task of "downloading". Wow. Segmented lol. When did the internet stop knowing how to Un-RAR. This is crazy.
Ahh the good old days of dos. Back when hardly anyone knew anything about computers and very little explaining was ever needed. You either figured it out on your own or you just didn't need it. Today it seems like everyone wants to be force fed information. They expect you to connect to their PC and do it for them!
*chuckle* You are absolutely right. Having grown up in the days of the Apple ][+, I know exactly what you mean. Sadly, with the advent of Google, I find myself expecting to be spoon fed at times as well. So I try to supply nuggets of info where I can.
jwm2, thank you for your explanation about why there won't be an update to fix the lag. I get that this version of MAME runs more ROMs (like CPS3), so the newer bigger ones that wouldn't be possible in Mame4all are now running here. But I still don't see why a game like Galaga88 has to be so damn choppy -- I bought the Galaga Anniversary app on my iPhone 4 (and iPad gen1) and that game runs like a dream. It also runs just fine on my jailbroken iPad gen1 with Mame4all. Yet that same iPad with Gridlee stutters and doesn't even run it with the speedhacks. There's no hope for a fix for that?
Those games are not running the same type of emulation that MAME is. The whole point of MAME is to emulate as many arcade machine boards as possible. Due to the fact there several thousand more boards are being emulated between the two versions of MAME this version of MAME requires ALOT more horsepower to get the same results of the previously released version of MAME. There is no free lunch. You can have playability or selection, you can't have both when dealing with limited resources. If you are running these on a dedicated gaming PC then you will have the performance you seek but thats just not possible on a handheld device. So either we need to upgrade our hardware or move back to an older version of MAME, there is no other solution. The person who ported this version of MAME can fix certain bugs related to the app itself and probably doesn't have the time to dive into the MAME source code and tweak it to run on our current hardware. He is doing this for free, so you take it or leave it, there is no middle ground. He has already done us a favor by waiting to fix most of the bugs in the app BEFORE putting it on the app store. IMO he has done enough and I am very grateful for what has already been done. It makes no sense to complain about something just because it won't play a few of your games at full speed. Just deal with it or move on.
Here's my ultimate guide for Playchoice 10, for the second time. First, download and put the Playchoice 10 BIOS (available at rom sites) into the roms folder. Then place any playchoice 10 games you want in the roms folder as well. When you click to play the playchoice 10 game, you should be able to get to the title screen, but nothing else. Go into settings by pressing coin and start simultaneously, into input for this game, and map enter to a unused button (I use Y). Now at the unresponsive title screen, press coin, the screen will go black, then press your enter button until the title screen comes back, and you should be able to start the game. Hope this helps!
I'm good to go now! The problem was that my playchoice10 bios was corrupted but i have found a working one Got all playchoice10 games working now on gridlee I.AM.SET. As for the whole single roms versus romsets.... Individual roms are very easy to find, you don't have to download xxGB romsets if you don't want to! As always, google is your friend!
Quick question It's only two main games I care about....Wrestlefest and Run & Gun basketball (US version) or Slam Dunk Basketball (Japan version). I got Wrestlefest and it works great, but the roms for Run & Gun doesn't work. Can anyone PM me with some advice/help. Thanks
because mame4ios is based on high specs machine, doesnt have an uml backed ARM dynamic recompiler. imame have ARM dynamic recompiler
