That does it... I'm buying this now because you guys won't stop with the amazing videos and praise. STOP making me spend money on GREAT APPS!
I can't believe it's taken so long to persuade you to part with $0.99! I'll have to ask Glenn to extend the sale to give some of you more time to make this difficult decision
If that helps: The game is great, fluid and unlike any other iphone racer i got (and i got quite a few) Buy it now! It´s a steal for this price and you will regret it later if you don´t buy it now.
I'm in. It is only a buck, as much as I don't need another racer....,*buys* Sorry Pamx I mistook you for Pharmx however I'll use your enthusiasm to buy too
Thanks guys! Just need a few hundred more of you lovely people to buy too and Ground Effect might just break into the US Top 100... Surely you're all intelligent, charming, popular and have loads of cool, like-minded friends?? On a more serious note, can anyone who's had a chance to play let us have your definitive update wish list please? It would really help in deciding exactly what to focus on for the future.
Selectable camera angles. Racing online ghosts. A more polished menu experience, including tweakable steering. Different stats on different vehicles. More maps. More maps with free-roaming routes, like track 4.
Thanks davagorn, several of those are already in Just one thing though, what exactly do you mean by "more polished menu experience"?
Ground Effect in Stereo 3D Time to dig out those 3D glasses... These are screen grabs from my phone running the current almost-ready-to-rev version. The first requires Red/Cyan glasses, these seem to have been the 'standard' for years. The second uses Yellow/Blue (Brown/Blue?) glasses. I hadn't seen these before last week when Channel 4 in the UK gave them away for it's recent 3D season. If anyone has any other lens colour combos I'd like to know as I want the rev to support as many types as possible. 3D video coming soon
Well, sometimes when I tap options, its response time is slow. Sometimes it brings up the sound options, and sometimes not. Flicking the vehicles and courses left and right seems to have too much "friction" and sometimes I accidentally select a vehicle when I want to flick it. Put it this way: when I'm racing, I'm enjoying one of the most polished, slick games. Period. But in the menu I think, "Is this going to be a good game?" I'll play the game later today and try to be more specific...I'm going on memory right now. I think I remember TA's review saying something about the menus, too...
Thanks for the feedback davagorn. The sound and options menu not coming up was the most irritating bug in the game. What's happening is that the touch registers twice. This is fixed and works perfectly now. I will look into the craft rotation but there is a strong chance that the whole front end will change in the next rev anyway. By the way, here is another 3D test image, this one is for red/cyan or red/blue glasses.
Ground Effect is still on sale for a very limited time. Thanks to everyone for their support and please continue to buy, buy, buy! Glenn will soon be letting everyone know which of your update suggestions will be showing up in the new version. Until then, please keep your ideas coming.
Wow! Did I miss something? Are you planning on releasing a 3D version or update? This is currently my favorite racer! Easy to pick up and play but challenging at the same time. Love the feel of speed you get while playing the game. I'm sure someone else has mentioned the music but I think that the song you chose really adds to the ambiance and provides additional "cool factor" to the game. One super minor gripe: I dislike the color choices of the planes. I know it's silly but I find the paint design a little tacky (no offense). I suppose once I'm in the race the last thing I'm thinking about is how the vehicle looks but nevertheless since an option in the game I bring it up. Thanks Glenn and Pam! Edit: I did miss the announcement about the 3D rev. That is going to me incredible!!!
Thanks for the feedback River On Fire. I really appreciate it when people get what I was trying to do with the game. I wanted it to be all about the speed, feel and interaction with the environment. No offence taken on the criticism of the paint designs. I'm surprised no one has come out and said it before! Only one of them was designed by the artist, all of the rest were by me and my kids! Rev 1.2 will feature new models (at least three actual different craft with different stats) designed by a new artist who has a lot of cool vehicle ideas. The 3D will be a menu option in rev 1.1. It's not going to be a primary focus of the game. It just happened to be relatively easy to do with the way I structured the code and is a very cool way of soaking up extra power on the faster devices. In the course of optimising the 3D engine to work with the 3D glasses I have made changes which mean the game runs even smoother in the standard mode.
Ok, well in that case I'm off to my local Sainsbury's to get some 3D glasses. The word on the street is that they are giving them out for free!
Thought it would be fun to ask on this thread: What's everyone's favorite racer besides GE? I have many I like, but the only other one I love is Aqua Moto...I think both AM and GE have a similar sense of fluid speed, which is why I like them.
