Ok please stop going to every Dead Space thread and saying the same thing. We get it, you don't like the game. A vast majority disagree with you, so we don't want to hear you complain. I hate Aralon with a passion, but I only stated my opinion once. And if you don't like console-quality games, then it's people like you who prevent the iPhone from advancing. Just please stop commenting on Dead Space threads unless it's something positive.
To me the scariest part of the game was way in the beginning, where you turn off the power and all the necromorphs start coming out of the walls. Then you were told to run for your life. I was so scared!! And then I kept thinking I took the wrong turn, and was so glad when I finally got to the elevator. Now that was scary!!
The first few minutes are pretty scary, because you don't really know how the game works and such. However, the surprises can be pretty predictable after a while, and the graphics on the monsters aren't all that convincing enough. However, the suspense and wonder still stays, especially when everything's dark, it's quiet, and you're all alone walking through the infinite boundaries of an infested space... By the way, whoever said "Don't comment if you don't have anything positive to say...": I think you misunderstand the point of the forums; it's to voice your opinion and to give critique and information, not to freedomlessly chip in ravings confined to praise.
After reading the replies, and finally stopping being such a wuss and moving on from chapter 3, I definitely agree with these guys. The scariest moments are in the first 2 chapters where you don't know what quite to expect. After that, you not only know when to expect something to pop up, but you'll probably even be armed and read to shoot it the second it pops up.
Here's an analogy for how scary Dead Space is: (Sour= Scary) Sour Patch Kids- Dead Space Sour Skittles- Actually being attacked by a necromorph
It isnt that scary. Once it made me LOL. I dont remember what chapter was it but it was like this: I walked in a corridor. Screen flashed and i turned into necromorph.Screen flashed again and i turned back to Isaac. Then several times. Then the confusion animation played and Isaac sayed:`What the **** is going on?`.I litteraly LOLed. But yeah, this isnt that scary. Cod Zombies is more scary(if you explore maps and find scary clues about story)
mmm, I don't really think the scare factor is really huge in this game. Therefore, the surprise factor makes the game stand out for good imo.
Dead Space isn't scary, it just startles. I know a necromorph is going to pop up, I know where it's going to pop up, I stand right in front of it so it can pop up, and then I wait for it to happen. It actually gets a bit tedious. Since they make you wait, you get startled fairly consistently, but it's nothing like playing Condemned 2 where the entire atmosphere is spooky. In dead space you've got kickass weapons and not really any large risk of dying. That's not scary. Having just a pipe to work with, no ability to fight at long range, or having a gun but very limited ammo is scary.
sort of scary I agree with most of the people here that at the beginning of the game for the first few chapters it is a bit scary because you don't know how they are going to try to scare you, but then you get used to it and you learn all the necro's hiding spots and such. Someone said this a few posts back but the hallucination where you turn into a necromorph was a bit funny. I was actually kind of excited to get to play as a necromorph and I actually tried to use the attack button hoping to slash anyone in sight but to no avail. Lol. But it is decently scary though. There were some parts that really scared me though. here is a list: 1. when you think a necro is dead but then it jumps out and scares you: this gets old after a while but in the first few chapters into the game it does scare sometimes. I learned to just shoot the bodies instead of waiting for them to hug me. 2. This was near the beggining of the game and it was actually off the beaten track because you had to ignore your locator and explore a bit and you also had to use a power node to open the door, but it was a tiny room with ammo and credits laying around and you suddenly got hallucinations and the room was covered in blood and bodies and there was screaming. That really creeped me out. 3. when you buy something from the shop and a necro pops out from a vent near it. 4. Some of the lockdowns got me into a panic because I had limited ammo. 5. One room where there were dead bodies hanging from the ceiling. thats my list, Please share yours! I would love to hear your experiences of the game. I actually havent finished the game yet though... I got to the part where you have to battle the second brute necro. Please dont spoil it for me!
