I am wondering why the iPhone 3G will not support multitasking when OS 4.0 is released later this summer? This makes no sense to me. Were there that many hardware improvements between the 3G and 3GS (which will support multitasking)?

3GS has twice the ram. The 3G lags bad enough on 4.0 without multitasking.

Many people forget that the 3G is essentially the same internals as the 2G just with the 3G radio built in so as loves2spoon says the 3GS has more RAM and a faster processor and already has troubles with 3.0 so multi-tasking will just kill it

Multitasking works fine on the iPhone 3G (jailbroken). Apple implemented multitasking just right. It's more the home screen wallpaper that'll cause lag on the iPhone 3G.
