I sent a letter (email) to Apple regarding this game. Hope they wont publish this. I have several Japanese friends from College, some of those really affected (life, things, ...) by this horrible thing they suffered. I hope Apple listens to me and doesnt release this SHIT,

If you want to donate, theres Red Cross Japan to do so. I encourage do to it that way, its safer.

I wouldn´t worry all to much. Almost every disaster reveals crooks who try to use media attention to cash in some money or simply wanna use the free PR to their advantage, this is nothing new. Bet Apple is aware of this and will reject this one.

    True.

Good grief, it'd be great if people might stop for a moment and, i dunno, actually read the first post, and find out exactly why this game is being made...

Even those who thought this app might be too controversial also acknowledged the fact that it's being done in the name of adding another means to donate towards the relief effort, and none of the profits are going to the developers.

And then there were others, who didn't bother reading, and just decided to start slinging mud. When those guys grow up, it'll be good to have them on board for the discussion.

Best of luck, Coding Dutchmen! Looking forward to contributing.

    Also, Lance: U mad bro?

It's got great intentions but a stupid title and gameplay

During the 80's there was softaid which raised a lot of money. Cheap games on one tape with all money going to Africa

Yesterday in London they had a big charity event for Japan. Raised a lot of money.

I bought several Sega games when their proceeds went to Japan

Sorry but I can't remember any terrible disaster where a company then bought out a game based on the disaster

Nice intentions but a laughable poor taste game

Imagine after 911 and someone bought out a game to catch falling people from skyscrapers and the money went to charity? Sick

Great intentions but an utterly stupid idea for a game. Apple seem to agree

As someone actually living in Japan, I don't think it's in particularly good taste as it really does trivialise the problems we have had over here. TRUE, the proceeds are going to be used to help people but I really don't think the situation should be made into a game this early on - the bodies still have all not been found yet (over 15,000 still missing - I can't even call them missing people anymore I don't think :() so it really does feel too soon for me.

But then, that is just a personal opinion - I can't speak for everyone in this country

When stated by a sensible person, such as you, this message has a much greater impact. If everyone were as sensitive to the issue as you, this thread and this world would be a much nicer place to be.

Thanks djflippy. Unfortunately, the grandparents of a close friend are still missing and I think everyone feels they had dead but nobody wants to say it or accept it... it's a horrible situation!

I have experienced thousands of earthquakes in my life but nothing like we had then - it still scares me even today! My building shouldn't make noises like that!

With the game, my honest feeling is by dropping 'Japan' from the title and changing the water to fire, there won't be any direct association - the developers mentioned the title was used to generate interest, my counter-point is that if you make a game worth playing, interest will generate itself. THAT is why I feeling it is in bad taste.

Japan Rescue renamed to Chopper Rescue

    Hi all,

As mentioned above, Japan Rescue has indeed been released under a new name: Chopper Rescue. The original Japan Rescue got rejected by Apple for two reasons:

    - We are not allowed to mention anything about donations or what we'll do with the proceeds.
    - Any app that is defamatory, offensive, mean-spirited, or likely to place the targeted individual or group in harms way will be rejected.

In the meantime, it has been months since the tsunami struck and the national and international communities have already provided the help Japan needs. To avoid any trouble with Apple (we develop lots of apps, we don't want to run any chance of making a bad impression on the review teams) we've decided not to donate the proceeds of the application to the Red Cross, as mentioned earlier. We have, however, lowered the price to $1.00.

We do understand this might feel like we're breaking our earlier promise. The way we look at it, this app is no longer using the Japan disaster as a main source of (media) attention, but has just become another pixel art game. We've spent time developing the game and would now like to gain some revenue.

We sincerely hope you can understand this change.

    Best,
    Coding Dutchmen
