K... I just hit the 80% completion mark. Wanted to stop in and say that it's freaking fantastic. I, in no way, consider this a platformer. By any stretch of the imagination. It's a 3D puzzle adventure game. It's about as much of a platformer as... Robo5. Yes... slight platforming elements, and if the controls were different, could be considered a platformer... but it's not. That's all... I hope you all stick with it, because the game is absolutely B-U-TI-FULL!! And if you get stuck, there's walkthroughs on youtube... which you can see controlling with a Wii remote is just about as hard as it is on a touch screen. It just takes some persistence. Screw walking everywhere... fling that little guy as much as you can with wind. Once you get more powers, it gets A LOT more entertaining. MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND TAKE CARE!!!
I've been debating on wether I should get this or not. I'm leaning toward getting it. It looks fun. Darn Christmas sales... Bought too much already, but...
This. I have too many untouched games already but this looks so tempting. But it will probably just sit around...
Wither Falls? Nope, _I'm_ the one that falls, time after time. The maps for the Wii Walkthrough are not identical to the ones in the iPad version, although they are close. Aftr the second save statue, I jump to the platforms in the treetops and from there, try to jump high and left. But I just fall, cannot make that jump and keep falling to the ground. Too much frustration, and I feel certain that, should I actually luck out and get past this point, there will be even harder maneuvers. Maybe I'm just a klutz. A frustrated klutz. I've no beef with walking around or using the wind to speed my horizontal progress, no desire for a D-pad mechanic.
I still don't know if I should buy LostWind because I read a review which said that the control totally ruins the game. Has the dev said in this thread they will try to improve the control?
I really don't understand why some people have so much problems with the controls. I think some of these reviewers never actually played through the start of the game where it explains that you can do a long press on the side of the screen and your little dude just keeps running so you can do all you swipes nice and easily. I hope the devs don't do too much to the controls. If that's the only thing holding you out from buying the game, then just buy it already.
Absolutely true that it's easy as can be to move the dude horizontally, with or without using the wind to speed you along. Th difficulty that I and some others are having is swiping to use the wind to make vertical (or vertical plus sideways) jumps. For me, and for some other people, some of those maneuvers are extremely difficult and result in being "stuck" in a certain place and unable to progress in the game. I have been extremely persistent, but those particular controls I've found to be unforgiving and are spoiling, for me, a game I like a whole lot in other respects. But perhaps you'll have better luck!
Like Doffie just said, stick a jump in between those nice long runs which require a gust of wind to push you across and its not so easy. Always said, flat left to right no problem - gaps and climbing higher than just one step are another story.
Have the dev said in this thread they will try to improve the control? If not it would be a shame because apart from the control issue the game is very good.
As far as I know, the devs haven't addressed this issue here. Frustration expressed by some of us is definitely not universal. I'd like to know how widespread this frustration is, but have no idea and the devs have been quiet lately. Perhaps they will chime in though because they've made a beautiful and imaginative game and Ai know they'd like players to experience all of it.
Game Impressions Just finished the game. I agree with a lot of people. The game IS beautiful and the mechanics of it are really cool. Then level design is varied and well thought out. The colors of the game are amazing and really pop on the iPhone. That said, the controls are awful. There's no way to get through this game without getting frustrated at some point. Especially with enemies. So many times I had no idea why moves worked sometimes and not others. It was a fun game and honestly the first game I've beaten on the iPhone beginning to end without getting bored. But some levels I had to repeat over and over due to frustrating controls. Even worse the wii tutorials make the controls look so simple! I wouldn't hesitate buying it again but if you're going into the experience thinking the controls won't be an issue for you, be warned.
I won't pick this up until the controls are ironed out, personally. Seen too many people with issues on that. That being said, I'd like to play this because it seems so fresh and alive, but for me, control is more important than eye candy, so, I'll wait and see what the devs do here.
Busy shopping for Christmas presents and have no time to vote yet? ONE LAST DAY to make LOSTWINDS becomes Touch Arcade Game of the Week. [thread=117844]VOTE HERE[/thread]
I don't find the controls to make the game not enjoyable, but I def agree that they need some fine tuning. Only played about an hour thus far.
On my way to Wither Falls I kept withering and falling way too much and having to make that climb one too many times. Game on hold until an update (hopefully). Excellent game and great graphics and experience EXCEPT for the gust. Just needs more oomph and or forgiveness.
