Really turned off by the slider only controls and iPhone only build. Anyone who's played Mario knows that buttons give you great control, even in mid-air for jumping correction.
Where you play Mario on iPhone? This is bullsh*t, that the buttons gives you super accuracy in midair or jump over the spikes like analog slider (just play on hardcore levels to understand this). Nobody has done before normal slider in platformers on iOs. Here it is implemented perfectly.
There's a few platformers with sliders on the iOS, and they're nowhere near as good as they'd be with buttons. Ravenous did it perfectly with LOE... Check out how perfect the buttons are in the impossible levels with perfect mid-air correction. Compare that to the slider controls in Maxplosion even on simple levels. There's no comparison to talk about.
Totally agree. There are plenty of games on the AppStore that implement arrows for left/right movement flawlessly. Don't see why this game is any different. I understand the slider allows for speed changes, but I also don't see why adjusting movement while jumping can't be done for this game like it is for any other game on iOS that has arrow controls. Just add the arrows as an optional control method, then all bases are covered and everyone is happy. Until then I'll use tilt, the slider just won't cut it for me...
Guess we have no choice but to implement arrows? Btw, the reason you cannot see picked mushroom in tutorial is that you picked it with a different character. When you select a character, it will only show mushrooms collected with this specific character - but since you can't pick Jario while it's locked, you cannot see the mushroom. I'm sorry, but I really couldn't figure a clear way to explain this in the game .
Jesus. Make the game the way you think it's best. Yes, this is a good forum for feedback, but it's also a good forum for whiners. The game plays well. Everyone wants to harken back to the 'classic' days of gaming, but back then, you took what you got, and you loved it. Suck it up, bitches!
you always have a choice... But as its been said already, there have been plenty of games that didn't do well because of stubborn developers thinking they had the best control scheme and because of that wouldn't implement other options. With the current state of the AppStore, the only way you'll be able to have a 'successful' product is by listening to your customers, and by having enough options so that the game will appeal to as many people as possible.
Gah! The App Store used to encourage innovation and experimentation. Now, apparently, it snuffs it out. None of us are as stupid as all of us. You will all get the games you deserve. $.99 pieces of crap with buttons, and gamecenter, and achievements, and multiplayer that completely blow and that are basically clones of the games you wish you were still playing. Good luck with that. Sorry for the rant, but seriously. All I hear on this forum is 'I wish this game was more like X' or 'if only these controls were more like Y'. Yes, there's something to be said for good implementation, but do you want a new game or not? If not, go play X or Y. If so, learn the new controls and enjoy. Either way, quit you bitching.
Real truth, man! Some guys have a little troubles in their heads with something new, or crooked fingers. Game is really good with all sides.
True indeed. But really, devs are only shooting in their foot by not implementing popular alternative control schemes.
You can use the slider as two jump buttons if you wish, just pretend that the two ends of the sliders are buttons and tap, simple. All you miss is the square boxes, purely cosmetic which you wouldn't have time to notice, it feels just the same. Some people really will complain about anything. This game is great, love the amount of levels and the unlockables which give us a target. I'm already pumped to try to unlock all the characters and the various challenges which reward a mushroom or two help spice it up. Only thing I want to request is a notice on what time we need to get the "perfect" score on each level. I would like to know how much I'm failing by haha
****ing thank you! Sure, I've complained about retina support and ridiculous things like the names of apps on our devices...endlessly in fact, but I've never said "no, I won't buy a game unless this or this is added" or complained about a control scheme that very clearly works. You should check out the Slender Rising thread...sheesh, I mean...come on...it may not be what you're used to, but put more than 3 seconds into it and you'll get the controls. Does the fact that I hate slider controls stop me from playing this? No! Seriously, as much as I love the developer interaction here on TouchArcade, sometimes I think it's better off for the developers to not even bother. It saves them the ****ing trouble of "fixing" things that don't need fixing, while they could be taking care of other things such as new levels or bugs that have pointed out.
