Has anyone watch Brazil? Good move. Sorry if someone already posted it, I didn't read the entire thread.
I thought it was well made, but it really didn't frighten me at all. I was really hoping it would too Did you know people thought that movie was real and they actually died?
I liked Cloverfield. It didn't take itself too seriously, lots of chaos, some nice effects... the action starts really quickly and only lets up for a few minutes in places. I think it's one of those films that relies on the audience filling in the gaps with their imagination, the whole concept sent the cogs in my brain spinning and I pretty much talked through the entire film with my friend, passing back and forth a bunch of "what if" scenarios. Paranormal Activity on the other hand... was boring. The only excitement I got from that really was my own imagination (and I could have done that without the film being on) because there's absolutely nothing happening on screen. As far as ghost films go I'd rather watch 1408, The Others or Poltergeist. ...or Ghostbusters.
Misery is easily the best. The Shining is alright if you're in the right mood. I even like parts of IT, but overall it's too campy.
I have to say this: " the day the earth stood still" remake sucks gonads! The ending was really "the sh*t" - no impact, kinda predictable, lame. Not even the cg graphics impressed
I get really creeped out by the bathtub scene in The Shining, for some reason. The way suspEnse builds up is incredible! All work and no play makes ________ a dull boy.
Are you serious? The most prominent thing I remember about Cloverfield is being bored stiff for the first 20 minutes - half an hour whilst that guy went around the party with his camera. Just when you think the action must be starting soon: he goes and asks another arbitrary character a bunch of stupid questions.
Who else here thinks Avatar was completely overrated? I think so because: 1. The corny dialogue. Remember lines like "Let's make this quick, I want to be home for dinner!" and "Good work people, first round's on me tonight!" by the Colonel to make him sound "evil?" 2. The overused story. Dances With Wolves? Pocahontas? Everyone knows the story about men turning against their own race to fight for another. 3. Predictability. Along the lines of the overused story, Jake was obviously going to fall in love with Neytiri from the very beginning, he was obviously going to take sides with the natives, and the doctor Sigourney Weaver played was obviously going to eventually be friends with Jake. So who's with me? P.S. And who else here has seen "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?"
Pretty much every film starts with a bit of character development, you've got at least 4 different characters there for variation. 20 minutes isn't bad at all compared to some films that like to slowly drag out the tension for 70 minutes then chuck in a quick frenzied scramble in the dark right at the end. Plus there was a dash of humour thrown in for good measure. Compare that to Paranormal Activity, no action the entire film, two mind-numbingly boring characters you want to die the moment you see them and zero humour... 85 minutes, 90 is about average... maybe you enjoyed it more than you thought, time flies when you're having fun.
