I've grown to hate it since it became a case of "I need epic music for my crappy YouTube video, oh I know, I'll use the song from Requiem for a Dream". Since we're on the topic of Tim Burton, Danny Elfman has a pretty significant place in the film scoring business. He's almost become a cliche of himself since his work is pretty much instantly recognizable and linked with the stuff Burton does. I don't really pay much attention to movie soundtracks, but if it's one of his I'll always notice.
Yeah, this. It's getting way overused now. It's still an epic piece of music, but now I've heard it one too many times.
Every single movie of his has a dark theme, tons of white make-up, and enough spirals to make a person feel dizzy just by looking at 'em. Not to say I don't love Edward Scissor Hands or Nightmare Before Christmas, but the guy has to move out of his comfort zone a little... and end his amorous relationship with Danny Elfman.
Pshh the only movie I enjoyed was Nightmare Before Christmas. Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands were just too bizarre for me. Burton really likes Depp in clown make up or something.
I hear you man, I just always have and always will buy into that dark, broody stuff he's been churning out. I am a fan of quirky and bizarre culture and he does it flawlessly. I can see why people may not be fond of him however.
Hahaha, as I said in my post above... I'm a bizarre character myself. Not Johnny Depp bizarre mind you. I'm not saying he does everything perfectly, but I go in and watch a movie of his with a certain mindset and I'm never usually disappointed with the outcome.
LOL@ Kamazar. I personally think Depp is a very fearless and able actor, he knows folks are going to either love him or hate him and I commend him for that. He's got a crazy diverse catalogue of movies he's starred in.
Johnny Depp is badass, but Alice in Wonderland was pretty weak. Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Xmas and Beetlejuice were all great. He started to sway a little with Mars Attacks and Sleepy Hollow and since then he's just stayed at a comfortable low. Luckily Johnny Depp escaped and got some epic pirate action in rather than kill his career. Edit: talking about Tim Burton in the middle there, despite not mentioning his name...
No. I just think he brings some weird to all of roles, and i can't take him seriously. - Should I see those films?
Well yeah all of those movies that star him as a clown are beyond weird. I swear he played the same character in Alice and Charlie. Donnie Brasco and Public Enemies are both mob movies, and they're some of my favorites.
My favourite role of Depp's is easily Hunter S. Thompson (Raoul Duke) in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. One of my favourite films period. Benicio del Toro is great in it too. ...but if you're trying to avoid anything weird you're looking in the wrong place with this one. Pirates of the Caribbean is fun.
