Watched Memento last night and it was amazing. One of the best story tellings I have seen.

Watched it and now you need to give real reasons. I enjoyed it but there was nothin that special. It's a good bit down in my animated movies list. At the moment it goes Toy story 3, up, walle, the lion king. Those are my favourites.

It's just an opinion; any reasons I would have for it, you likely wouldn't share.

And I'm okay with that. I do enjoy all those films as well.

UP is excellent. Wall-E is pretty good too. Toy Story 3 was worse than the first film.

Momento is great, even if it does confuse you every-single-time you watch it :)

I'm not saying your opinion is wrong. I hate those people who only can see one side. I'm just interested in what you saw that I didn't

And ya memento is so cool. I love christopher Nolan so much. And johnathan too as they share most of the writing.

It probably helps that I went into the film with such low expectations that how good it was really surprised me. I wasn't expecting that kind of Pixar-esque quality to come out of what looked like another childish Dreamworks film.

I dunno. It wasn't really anything special I suppose, but the level of detail and the visuals of it all combined with a pretty compelling story really impressed me.

Momento is one of those movies you should have a grip on by the second time you watch it but part of what makes that move great is that you keep catching new things every time. The thing that really annoyed me about Inception was the constant need for the characters to explain away the primary plot device in the most convoluted way possible. Like Momento it could have been a great film if they had let the audience figure it out on their own over multiple viewings, the rules of the dream machine were not horribly complicated. My two favorite films that require multiple viewings to really understand them are Total Recall and Naked Lunch.

Is there that much to Total Recall? I've only really watched it once and it didn't seem that deep... I must be missing something.

Total Recall is one of my favs just because of the fact that it is not only a dumb actioner and has a great ambiguous ending.

I don't want to give spoilers here but just google "Total Recall interpretation" and you will see that there are a few discussions on the ending out there ;)

First time you watch Total Recall it's a film you take completely at face value, it's only the second time through that the foreshadowing changes your perspective to believe it's all a dream. The third or fourth time through you'll realize there is actually evidence it could be ether and it's entirely up to you how you choose to view it.

I think Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi trilogy (Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers) is massively underrated. Most people don't even realize Robocop is a satire of the "cop that plays by his own rules" action subgenre of the 80's.

Ahh, yeah, the dream vacation thing? Man it's been so long since I saw the film I completely forgot about that part of the story. I might pick it up on DVD then and keep an eye out for clues :)

That's like the entire story! When Quaid goes to Recall the conversation between the two technicians that put him under foreshadow most of the major events of the film. The guy in the background even says "blue sky on Mars? That's a new one" and when they ask Quaid if they should include any "alien stuff" one of the things that pops up on the monitor is the ceiling of the pyramid with the heating rods. These aren't things you'd notice watching the movie the first time through because you don't know they pop up later.

Total Recall is my favorite film, I've owned the VHS, DVD, Special Edition Mars tin DVD, UMD and the French import on HD-DVD.

Haha yeah, I dunno how I forgot it. I think the last time I saw it I missed the beginning so only the last 2/3rds really stand out in my mind... pretty fatal plot point to miss really.

Robocop - Amazing movie, through sadly most people have never seen the unrated cut
Robocop 2 - Based on a great comic book mini-series and a decent movie
Robocop 3 - It's bad, but it could be worse
Robocop: The TV Series - OH THE HUMANITY! KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Stanley Kubricks films were awesome... Ill never forget the mysterious monolith, dr. Strangelove, Alex, etc. I sometimes feel old movies are still the best movies, compared to those nowadays.
