My Robocop disc says it's got both the theatrical version and director's cut... not sure which one I've watched though ...and Dr. Strangelove is awesome. One of the few films I didn't really understand even while watching it, then the moment it finished immediately understood and had to see again.
My favorite line in Dr. Strangelove is "I think you're some kind of deviated prevert. I think General Ripper found out about your preversion, and that you were organizing some kind of mutiny of preverts.". That whole movie is an understated work of mad genius and yet I know people that have seen it multiple times and still don't understand that it's a comedy!
I didn't know my How to Train Your Dragon ranking would be so controversial to one or two of you aha. I suppose I should settle my opinion on this. Apologies for not doing this sooner Personally, the first time I saw it I was completely blown away. It was the first movie by Dreamworks that I can safely say attained the high-quality artistic masterpiece feel of a Pixar film, and didn't feel like a pop-culture-laden, elementary-written, adult-joke-laden affair like most of Dreamworks' other movies, namely Shrek. There were a couple jokes that bordered on adult, but they were so minimal and didn't detract from the overall feeling of the film at all, so I didn't take note of them really. There are a couple instances of typical kid movie writing, but only a couple. There were no pop culture references that I could see at all. It's quite noteworthy when a Dreamworks movie restrains itself this much, and it lends so much more credibility to the movie as an artistic masterpiece. It balanced out perfectly appealing to kids and appealing to adults, without alienating anyone. Pixar has this down to a T, and every other animation studio out there tries their damnedest, but they never reach that perfect pinnacle of balance. How to Train Your Dragon is the first of its kind, in my opinion. I also adored the story. It was so fresh and interesting. Being taught all your life to hate a species because of their past history with your people, and then finding that your people have been omitting important details, then you find the goodness in the creatures you were taught to hate, and... well I won't say anymore because that could get into spoiler territory. Overall, though, it's an immensely refreshing tale that was played out so well in the movie, with this growing friendship between man and beast. I loved it. So much. One scene of note that I can pick out without getting into spoiler territory is the scene where Hiccup draws a picture in the sand of Toothless, and Toothless starts drawing a... well I'm still not sure XD, but he is trying his best to draw something nice for Hiccup. That whole scene, mixed with the music, was probably my favorite animated movie scene in a few years. Then there are several shots, especially near the end (one in particular that is a major spoiler) that blew my mind. They stuck with me for months afterwards and that one spoilerific shot in particular that I noted will be stuck with me for quite a long time. It's so powerful, so well-done, and just purely outstanding. How to Train Your Dragon shows me that Dreamworks does know a thing of two about creating a true masterpiece. It's a damn shame they don't put this kind of artistic perfection into every movie they do. It's disconcerting to say the least, and judging by their lineup for the next few years I fear this film will be their peak. That deserves special commendation, though. All of these factors culminate into a movie that I felt was ultimately much better-paced, much more refreshing, and way less predictable than Toy Story 3. That is why I feel How to Train Your Dragon deserves to be above Toy Story 3 in the rankings. Trust me, though: I had a hell of a time deciding between the two films. They're both almost neck-and-neck in terms of quality, and I would definitely agree that Toy Story 3's lasting impression is much more powerful than How to Train Your Dragon, but I weighed the options, the positives, the negatives, and I picked How to Train Your Dragon in the end. I will say, though, that emotionally, Toy Story 3 packed a bigger punch than I can even fathom. The last ten minutes had me pretty much in constant tears, and then the final couple minutes... So anyways... I hope that puts to rest you skeptics of why I pick How to Train Your Dragon as the best animated movie of 2010, over Toy Story 3. They're both masterpieces, though, don't get me wrong
that^^^ and when your emotions are brough on by nostalgia, well its pretty strong. and for anyone interested in understanding memento better. There is a version, I think an easter egg on the DVD. where the movie is played as normal. I actually would be interested to see it that way. Id say the movie would have such a different feel to it.
Watching the easter egg option on momento is kinda strange, as certain scenes are repeated straight after each other due to the way its watched in the regular way. worth watching once, but better to watch it the way its meant to be watched, i think.
Has anyone seen August Underground's Mordom. That movie left a really bad taste in my mouth! It was nasty to watch, but that's probably praise for what it set out to do! I read an article about it where the police got involved and had to check the actors where actually still alive, people out there thought it was a real snuff movie. I wouldn't want to watch it again! Look it up, taboo scenes aplenty!!! Btw I love scary movies and stuff, I've seen lots. And I'm not knocking this movie but I've never felt dirty for watching a movie like I did after this one! Lol
I've seen it. It definitely sets out to shock and probably works in most cases. It's not exactly beyond the imagination but I was a little surprised to see someone would actually go and film stuff like that. I think almost everyone who watches it will feel a little bad in some ways, even though a logical person will know it's not real it still counjures up thoughts of how that kind of thing has actually happened and that alone is enough to make you feel dirty. It's not the kind of thing you'd watch regularly either... I own it on DVD but haven't watched it since I bought it in 2003. It's the kind of thing you'd only watch again to see the reactions of the company you're with... unless you're a bit sick. It's definitely the worst (as in disgraceful, sickening, twisted) film I've seen.
Watched Superbad for like the 5th time again. This movie rocks. I'm surprised by how well it holds up. The jokes are still genuinely funny, and the characters are just awesome.
Watched suckerpunch not knowing what to expect, and was genuinely surprised. Yes, the plot wasn't impressive, but it was definitely eyecandy. It felt unique, maybe because it seemed like a 2 hour music video, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Criticize me if you wish, but I think give this a thumbs up!
Many people go for that exact reason, but after watching the movie I realized it was really a much more than just that. Also I found that the commercials for it sold it as an action movie, but it really wasn't. It had action, but don't expect it to be the center of the movie. The story is great btw. I was totally satisfied, for the life of me I can't see why some people and critics didn't like it. The only explanation I can think of is that they were confused by it or something.
Finally watched kick ass and then the expendables, with the latter being quite shitty. Seriously with a 80 million dollar budget I would expect to see legit fire and explosions, not some bullshit cgi crap. Kick ass was damn good though.
I was slightly disappointed with the changes they made in adapting Kick Ass from the original comic book namely the twist in big daddy's backstory and the ending. Overall it was good but had they followed the comic book a little more closely and not toned down the violence I think it would have been a better movie.
Kickass is EASILY my favorite super-hero movie of all time. I've watched it a couple times already and it's as good as ever. I'm incredible excited for Kickass 2: Balls to the Wall. Hopefully they'll announce some details about it soon.
I like a walk to remember movie. That is my favorite movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V96uhfQ0x9A
speechless...Does anyone see the movie Human Centipede? It is a thrilling movie and it is rather disgusting and creepy....I am sure you will never eat well after seeing this movie!!!And I wonder how this movie won some prizes...Even The Orphanage is better than it.But I really read some disgusting novels in this topic about operating on humans to let them do what the operater wants. When it is on shot,I cannnot bear it....
If you watch it backwards, it's a heart-warming story of a surgeon who separates three severely disfigured people.
