"During a live taping of Diggnation, Kevin Rose revealed details about the expected "Copy and Paste" functionality coming in iPhone 3.0. World of Apple reports on the event with a link to a video of the moment (warning: strong language). According to Rose, to invoke Copy and Paste, you simply double tap on the word, and a magnifier bubble will appear with two quotes that you can drag around your selection. Once you make your selection, you can copy, paste or cut. Rose has been accurate in the past with details about upcoming Apple product revisions." Video:
No the ANNOUNCEMENT will be Tuesday. And THEN we'll probably also hear if the firmware update can be downloaded right away, or if it will become available at a later moment.
Watched the video and seemed like lots of people where pissed off at some of the stuff not coming lol
I really, really don't think it will be released tomorrow. Apple have called it a sneak preview, not as if it's a ready product. I think it'll be an advance preview just to get devs on board with the new sdk, maybe update a few of games to utilize the new features. Remember, they did the exact same thing with 2.0 last year. They previewed in March, but released it in July.
The new software will probably launch with a new hardware model. That is what happened with 2.0 and the event is described as a preview. The banner image is also a blueprint so I highly doubt it will be released.
There is absolutely no way the 3.0 firmware is coming out today. I'd rate it at about the same probability as me riding atop a flying pig having an airborne snowball fight in hell. Why? Well, think of what a cash cow the App Store has turned in to. I'm sure Apple knew that the App Store would be successful, but I think their wildest expectations have been exceeded when simple games like iShoot and Rolando turn in to multi-million dollar titles. It's a really, really bad idea to just spring major software revisions on developers without giving them the chance to fix everything that the update broke, take advantage of the new features, and be prepared for any support issues which may arise from the upgrade. It's in Apple's best interest to keep the App Store developers as happy as possible... Saying "Surprise! 3.0 today which breaks all your apps, have fun!" couldn't possibly be further from that. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally stoked for whatever is being announced today... but don't expect to have it on your phone for at least a month if not closer to two or three.
The biggest possible thing they can do with 3.0 is to extend it onto another hardware device, probably a tablet. Don't get your hopes up though it's just wishful thinking on my part. (and on Andy Inhatko's too!)
