I'm very an addict of WW2 boardgames and I would see a game like axis & allies or tides of iron with simplified rules for the ipod .
I'd kill for a port of the PS2 Siren games: I can see it working with RE: Degeneration style controls. In fact survival horror seems to work oddly well on the iPhone, where it fails miserably on the DS.. I think the DSs graphics and sound are just a little too poor to evoke much horror from a 3D engine. The iPhone manages it well, especially as we almost always have headphones around and the screen is larger than a single DS screen. Can't really compete with the PSP in terms of pure immersiveness though. That said... port Silent Hill: Origins too.
I'd love to see a clone of Pararena, a classic Mac game. It's a kind of American Football with 2 players on hooverboards in a bowl-like arena. It would be perfect for the iDevice's accelerometer controls. Also it would be great to play against others on WiFi. Old review of Pararena 2... ...and even a little low-framerate movie Edit: actually it's a little slideshow with gamesounds but you'll get the idea. C'mon devs, this could be a hit if you get it right!
Actually it's in the category of mobile platform, ala Windows Mobile, BREW, Android, etc. Different market than portable game systems. Etc., etc., etc. broken record, blah, blah, blah I do this quite a bit, and it apparently annoys some, so I'll make fun of myself going on about market distinctions from time to time. Lighten the mood, y'know. Anyway, I agree: I don't get all the wanting of games that would be better suited to video game home consoles, or even those better suited to portable game systems for that matter. I'd rather made for iTouch/Phone originals. Eliss, IMHO, is a shining example of that sort of thing. And it's perfect for the mobile market while at the same time being perfectly suited for the unique control interface of this platform. It may not be "deep" as some would like, but it's very fun and very easy to learn, difficult to master. And I love that sort of gameplay. We need more developers making stuff like that, IMHO. I don't mind the 3rd person shooters or shmups or FPS or the racers (as I find racers well suited due to the accelerometer). But, y'know...I could play those types of games on DS or PSP (although, in the case of racers, I prefer iTouch/Phone due to motion sensing steering). What I can't do play games like Eliss or Doodle Jump or Dizzy Bee or Soul Trapper and a few others on the portable game systems. That's why I dig iTouch/Phone gaming, tbqh.
TWEWY-KH-FF-Chrono Trigger-or any great rpg or a tomb raider-prince of persia type game would be great
+1 Very true, the multi-touch/accelerometer combo of the iDevices just screams for new and fresh game concepts. Eliss is a shining point in case, even if it doesn't use the accelerometer. Which is why (shamelessly bumping my own post here) I think Pararena would be great on the iPhone, despite it not being an true iPhone original. The game just seems to be perfect for the iPhone. It was a great gravity-based game, a really unique game which sadly never became really widely known.
The game was retitled in the US for different reasons. It had to do with the then recently released Michael Moore movie, Fahrenheit 9/11. Atari's US division felt that the original title would bring up thoughts of Moore's movie and therefore be subconsciously tied to the controversy surrounding that film by potential consumers, and that might lead to passed up sales. It was a marketing decision based on oversensitivity, not any notion that American's wouldn't "get" the word, because, seeing as how Moore's film was viewed by a great deal many, and Bradbury's classic still read to this day I think American's have more than a grasp on the word. So let's drop the nonsense, 'kay? I swear, as much flack as we get for not thinking about the rest of the world or being "ignorant" of it, the rest of the world sure as hell spends way too much friggin' time consumed with comparing themselves against us. I mean, honestly, now...mirror, mirror and all that.
I was thinking of a first person pacman style game, where you have to avoid zombies/montsers and get out of a maze... could be really dark and intense.. maybe you can even push the zombies to get to a corridor but you loose alot of health to do so..
New iPhone game ideas...how about Nintento DS ports for the iPhone seem big right now - and classic arcade games from the 80's revamped for the touch screen, possibly like the Super Mario Brothers/Donkey Kong series, maybe in 3D. As far as completely new games, there is very little out there that has good 3D rendering...maybe a space saga, Flash Gordon, Perry Rhodan, Star Trek, Star Wars or something like that. Definitely more skill- than luck-based. The makers of "Peggle" had a good idea by taking their inspiration from the Japanese pachinko parlors and infusing it with some humor and wit; good illustration and design also helps. It ought to be easy to learn - some games are too complicated and there's too much cheap, bad blood and guts around, not enough witty fun. In any case, mixing real photography and rendering with computerized effects and photoshop is rarely a good idea - just look at "Everest"... my eyes turn sore just thinking about it.
any kind of superhero game would be nice to have. a game that you can fly around and use destructive powers similar to Caster.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned (something like) Prince of Persia so far. It would be something like Kroll promised to be. A 3D game played like a 2D game, but keep the 3D feel by twisting the path a bit and stuff. Acrobatic elements such as jumps, slides and wallruns along with sword fighting. A solid storyline and intuitive controls would be important. I'd definitly go for that
What about Prince of Persia with gameplay similar to HoS and AC, with a bunch of cool new features, and a $5.99 price tag? I could go for that.
Amazing how some of our ideas came into fruition and others didn't. For instance, I would have never guessed that the frantic FPS would vastly outstrip slower paced stealth games on iOS.
I would kill for an airport management game. Building an airport and expanding it to be the top ranked among others. Also a game where you take objects that are dissassembled and put them together would be fun. The catch couldbe that yoU have no idea what it is until u solve it. U can make it more Indepth by adding missions or building a a whole houses' room and decorating it with the things you built then sell things to make a profit and get more items to build. Blah blah
