Eliminate has been submitted to apple and we found out the game is going to be free. The rest I think isn't important.
Nope, nobody has the game except Apple. Once Apple approves the game, Ngmoco is going to hold off on releasing it everywhere except the Canadian App Store for a very short period of time, just to make sure the servers are working correctly.
What, you mean how long until Apple approves it? No way to know. Mathematically, it is probable that it will be released on Wednesday of next week, because the average length of approval time is 14 days. If you mean how long will Canada get it exclusively, I guess that depends on the results of the server load tests. Probably not long if the servers can handle everybody without issue.
I mean the Canada thing. The servers will most likely work. Like they have been getting ready for this for a long time now.
Well I'm guessing that if the servers work fine, they'll want to launch it internationally as quickly as possible. The more people play, the more energy packs people buy, the more money Ngmoco makes. It is in their best interest to get more people playing. I could see them giving it a day or two of leeway time if everything seemingly works great, but I doubt they'd keep it back any more than that.
Sorry, but the amount of people playing will be huge in the first hours/days. I don't think any server farm in the world could keep running. Well, except Google's...
No, it will not be that much. Come on, not everyone has a iphone or ipod touch and they will not all be getting it at the same time.
Yes, there was a big discussion about that earlier. You can create an iTunes account for any store in the world, and you don't have to provide any proof of residency. Follow this URL: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534 I have yet to hear anyone from Touch Arcade or from Ngmoco telling us that we shouldn't discuss this here, so I suppose it probably can't hurt to answer.
alright thanks and if i redownload it again with my u.s account in the u.s will the plus+ server keep my save
Even though they've been preparing for it, how do you simulate a launch, with hundreds, maybe thousands of server requests at the same time? Thats the reason to test it on a smaller user base first. When TTR3 launched a couple of weeks back their servers were bombarded with traffic and many found the store to be slow or downloads stalling etc. Online matches were also very on-off. And they already had TTR2 set up on their servers.
I don't know. Supposedly, all progress is saved to Plus+, but I don't know how different apps from different regions work, and I doubt anyone has put any effort into testing it. If you're planning on downloading an App from a non-local store in violation of your license agreements, I doubt you'll get much support from Ngmoco or from Apple if it doesn't go perfectly. Basically, I'm guessing yes, but approach with caution.
To be perfectly blunt, I'm guessing that Ngmoco's servers will go offline almost immediately after international launch. I have found that server administrators everywhere invariably overestimate the strength of their servers and underestimate the load placed on by users. It is almost a fact of life.
I don't think its an over/underestimate, its that the initial launch creates a huge volume of traffic in excess of the normal server load. They would have set up the servers based on an estimated daily usage, which one would assume has changed significantly since the move to free. Testing the waters gives them a chance to better understand that usage and to tweak the settings as necessary.
Exactly, that is why I think testing it is a great idea. I think they're going to find that the number of users who sign on greatly exceeds their estimations, and the amount of data each server will be able to handle will probably be less than expected. It usually is with online game launches. In fact, I can't even think of the last major multiplayer online game that launched without some sort of server issue.
