****************** Link: PhotoMarkr Price: $0.99 ****************** Hey guys, We have an app coming out that will let you add watermarks to your photos on your iPhone and iPod touch. We've heard from a lot of people who like posting their photos online that they would really love this functionality, so we hope this will be a useful tool for you! PhotoMarkr is really easy to use - set it up once, and then just apply your watermark to any photo with the tap of a button. Features: Create a watermark from text, or import a custom watermark as an image Position watermark anywhere on your photo Move, rotate and resize your watermark Change watermark transparency PhotoMarkr always saves a full-res original, and a full-res copy of your photo with the watermark applied. You can add a subtle watermark: Or a not-so-subtle watermark: And/or your own custom watermark: I'd love to hear any feedback you may have! Edit: And it's out! I want this app to be useful for YOU, so please give me any feedback you may have. ****************** Link: PhotoMarkr Price: $0.99 ******************
Initial thoughts I haven't seen this in action so this is just my first reaction and opinion. I don't really see the practicality of an app like this. I am a semi pro photographer and really don't see where an app like this would be handy since the iPhone camera is pretty low quality. For instance I for one would not see the use of uploading my digital photos to iTunes (space issues with 8gb version) to use this app. I simply upload the photos directly from my mini sd card onto my desktop and macro my watermark into the folder containing all my recent photos. Then upload to the internet. Now if this app lets you apply a watermark template to both portrait and landscape photos at the click of a button to all photos in an album I can see this being somewhat useful. But if you have to open your photo album, select photo, load and place watermark manually, save, upload photo to site, redo process for next photo it becomes cumbersome and not very efficient. Could be useful though to those artists that use other specialized appstore apps to touch up their photos from within their device but that is severely limiting your customer base. Maybe you can open my eyes as to why people have been asking for this? A candid photo taken with a less than stellar camera does not really warrant a watermark in my eyes.
Hey AttackOfThePwned, thanks for the response! First, the whole point of PhotoMarkr is so that you DON'T need to upload your photos from your phone to iTunes. The point of the app is to go from this workflow: (BEFORE) - I take a picture with my iPhone - I directly post the picture on the internet (through Flickr, TwitPic, Blogger, etc.) - I worry about people stealing my photo To this: (AFTER) - I take a picture with my iPhone - I watermark it with PhotoMarkr - I post the picture to the internet, worry free So if you don't have that worry, then the app is probably not for you. A quick note on how PhotoMarkr works. You can take the photo directly from the app and apply the watermark right there. So you don't need to take a photo, save to photos, then open PhotoMarkr, then open your photos, etc. It's quicker than that. Also, you only need to configure your watermark once. The next time, you just click on the (c) button and it will place it exactly in the same place. Then just save to photos. As for who needs this, I think just like any app, some people will find it useful, and some not so much. There are lots of people who take their iPhone photos very seriously. Here are just some sites and flickr groups for people who are fans of iPhone photography. There are some amazing photos in there. http://www.justwhatisee.com/ http://www.flickr.com/groups/iphonephotography/ http://www.ippawards.com/ And here's a thread of someone specifically asking for this app: http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157618751947240/ And people have even emailed me directly, saying how useful this app will be for them. Basically, if there were no demand for iPhone photo apps, you wouldn't see apps like Color Splash and PhotoGene in the top 100 If iPhone pix are too crappy to watermark, then why bother applying effects to them? Anyway, I think the point is that the demand is there. I actually wrote the app because my father in law, a former professional photographer, specifically asked for it. But certainly not everyone will find it useful (just like any other app). Thanks again for the feedback, I appreciate it!
And the app may just get that much better by monday Depending on Apple's announcement on the new iPhone hardware.....could have a higher MP camera for this app to watermark better pictures.
Ok, sorry I didn't mean to jump to conclusions there but I guess I did. Question, say you save a watermark for a landscape photo and then apply that watermark to a portrait photo, will the app resize the watermark automatically for portrait view or do you have to manually resize?
Hey, not a problem. Great questions. Yes - everything is automatically resized between landscape/portrait.
Oh hey, this could be very handy. Since I take a crapload of screenshots, it's a pain in the butt to drag them all into Photoshop and add watermarks that way, which is why I don't. This would be a much easier solution.
@Mindfield - absolutely, that would be a great use for it. Some of the game screenshots I've seen people take are works of art in their own right!
Well, I won't say that I have a tendency to take artful screenshots on anything resembling a consistent basis, but it would help prevent other people from stealing my bandwidth.
Hey guys, it's out now! ****************** Link: PhotoMarkr Price: $0.99 ****************** Try it out and let me know what you think! I want this to be a useful app that meets your needs, so I'd love to hear any suggestions for improvements. Thanks!
