It's a puzzle/maze/logic game. That is, you try to find the correct path by completing a sequence, categorizing objects, piecing together a jigsaw, and more. It's been best described in a review by "Yoyo" at iPhone Footprint:

"Now here is a game that is a puzzle right from the start. At first because the App Store description said that it has a maze, I was looking around for a maze on the interface. And then I discovered that we have to feel and find our way through the maze, that we are already in it. And SwipeHead is a real interesting maze for sure!

We need to use our memory prowess to know which way to swipe, in either of the four directions. We need to watch our step, for meeting a fish on our way can set us back in our points. And just as the fish are lethal for our scoreboard, the cherries aid us in our maze quest by unlocking secrets.
But we need to keep an eye on the clock while on our swiping mission, for we need to beat it if we are going to prove our puzzle mastery.

I love the graphics in SwipeHead. The black and white theme is a welcome change from colorful and sometimes garish games, and the whole look is classy. Another interesting feature is the way we evolve as we find our way through the levels. So we might start as an amoeba, but we get smarter and change our species too.

SwipeHead is one game that is a lot of fun and also challenges us to use grey matter. So while we are trying to avoid the jaws of the fish, we are exercising our memory skills at the same time. Plus it does not stick to only one subject, but jumps from Science to Music to Language and others with ease.

There is a global leaderboard to dare us, so fixing our eyes on that goal will help us to be more determined. SwipeHead is a game with general appeal, so I think it is a very good deal for just $0.99. Check out the free version if you want to take a peep first, but believe me, you won’t regret shelling out the moolah for the paid version."

I hate to say this but your screen shots in iTunes are not going to help you sell this game. I was thinking this would be something I would buy based on your description above but after going to iTunes I quickly changed my mind. It may very well be a really good game but the graphics are killing it for me because they don't match your description .... a puzzle game?. Sorry :(

Well, I made it to 8th on the leaderboard :p

This is definitely one whacky game that will test your general knowledge of science, math, music, and art along with your puzzle solving skills. There are also plenty of subtle little funny jokes hidden in amongst the puzzles and cherries for bonus points.

The graphics remind me of those cards they're always showing people to see if the they are psychic. You know the ones with simple graphics of stars, wavy lines, and triangles. There are a total of 30 puzzles to test your abilities and plenty of fish to let you know when you're wrong.

Sorry that you got turned off by the screenshots. I can understand what you mean when most puzzle games have a familiar look to them. SwipeHead is a puzzle game that encourages you to think outside the box - literally. The maze exists off screen. That is, you swipe in each direction to check out what lies ahead, make your choice as to which image/direction you think comes next, and hope you don't run into a fish. Though your progress is tracked on the map found on the bottom right corner of the screen, you are basically navigating your way through the virtual space, using your screen as the view finder. You are in the maze as opposed to having a birds-eye view. Hope this makes sense.

sorry, mate. the contest has closed. Luckily, I was able to accomodate the winners this time around through contacts in different countries, as an iTunes card is only valid in the country in which it is purchased. Next time around, I will try to work out a more reliable structure. Next contest will happen when the SwipeHead Facebook fan page reaches 200...it's worth getting your name on the board!
    Thanks for the question,
    -Leanne

I have to post something about this.

When I first loaded it, i was like wha? No instructions, nothing at all. But when you start playing it, you will be totally immersed. The lack of instructions and the confused self-syndrome I got actually enhanced the gameplay experience.

When you figure out what the game really is about, you gain a sense of satisfaction already.

A worthy puzzler! I hate the language levels though, I PRESUME your suppose to maze the words in their meanings, but I dont know so many languages :S

Nifty, unique maze game - some of the maze elements I grokked, some I had to solve via right-first searching...

Perfectly cool with having no instructions - just swipe away and figure it out.

Anyone who likes games like this (where you have to figure out what you're doing while you're doing it) should also look at Quozzle Quest which is a real onion of a game!
