Good fun stuff with thread title, something combined might really work .. in terms of being searchable and all that, we're simply never going to beat the tried and true; I forget why we're even wanting to change, was is just the Android forum having a name?

Well done sneeb @ 60% dex! Seems you're still not on my GC; a little research indicates that's being because of an unexpected GC ID!

Thanks for finding me. Yes, I have my own game center ID, but my iPad and computer are hand me down's from hubby, so I was afraid to lose my Dex after the upgrade. So yup I'm a.k.a. 0.1.0 formally played as Sneebdubple :D my video game name on PS3, Wii, etc... Is Sneeb :) of some variation or other.

Heh I definitely hear ya on not wanting to lose dex. As far as we are into the game, that's just not something we even want to think about :)!

Yes Marti ... As far as I can tell people wanted a new name after the Android trading forum started .... As far as I could tell people thought "their name" was better(Don't know if anyone noticed ... That trading thread hasn't had any posts ... Only 4 in the first two days of its life .... One of them from lisi.... And nothing since...) ...

Anyway I always thought the name of this thread was a bit long and cumbersome .. So a change is welcome ...

    Top Hopper

I was a dedicated 'top hopper' until version 2. I would hop towards the top of the screen over 90% of the time, reversing direction only to see what was sneaking up behind me. With the addition of the 'tame for potion' option box (which is a welcome feature) at the top of the screen, I have accidentally spent potions when I had no desire to. The flies tend to generally move in that direction and I could speed-hop through the pond catching flies and quickly taming the frogs. Now I have to be more cautious, often hopping down, and it takes me much longer to tame now. Hopping to either side has always been frustrating for me because the lily pads are not as easily accessible.

So why am I mentioning this? Because I was trying to tame some level 25 frogs (75 flies) and became very frustrated and left the game. The bottom line for me is that I tame fewer and fewer high level frogs which is directly reflected in the decline in number of gifts sent. I also seem to be experiencing a valley in my PF activity level. But I don't plan on quitting. Expect a new round (although limited) of gifting on my part... Soon.

This makes me even more appreciative of the gifts I receive because I am painfully aware of the effort involved in taming them first.

    Take care.

Yeah the potions to tame is still too easy to hit and accept even after they shrunk it. I have lost potions to it as well, and worst is when I'm only trying to happy up frogs from mail to sell!

Take it easy, you'll get through the valley :).

I had always hopped north for reasons of seeing more pads (and therefore more pond present chances) per second. I got quite good at it and for that reason I stayed away from the 2.0 upgrade, even with the reduced spend potions button. I finally gave in, upgraded and started to hop south. I've gotten quite proficient in it and now feel I'm about as good as I was hopping north.

My wife told me a couple of years back that she read on a forum how, if you come across a frog in the pond, you should hop in the direction that it is pointing, because it will either lead you to another frog or a gift box. I've followed that advice ever since because it has always proven true for me.

Someone sent me a Yellow Muscus Mustacium and I accepted it before I saw who it was from. I'd like to know who sent it.
    Thanks.

I don't know how to say this but that came up soon after the app was introduced and the developers sent a post saying that frogs were placed at random in the pond. Just reporting:).

I can't complain if it's happened to work out that way, even if it was coincidence. ;)

Cygnet was quite a proponent of that theory in the early days, not sure what he does now, but over time having kept track of leaderboards, I know for sure there must be strategies to maximise gift discovery, given how far I fell behind on 'pond presents' as compared to 'flies eaten', which I would have thought would be more highly correlated.

BTW, I should just remind people to vote if they haven't yet - I'm sticking to the PM me approach for now; we'll see what happens when lisi is back; I'm open to more transparency in the process, and of course a combo name as per more recent discussion :D.

I also perceive the "Tame with potions" button as an obstacle, Nirtew.
It was good that the Devs tweaked its sensitivity in an update:), but I would prefer it at the bottom of the screen. It has caused me be more mindful about taming frogs, as I also press it by mistake. I look for clusters of flies if possible or ones that are about to cross and jump to them. I hop down sometimes, but usually up and in a semi-zigzag fashion. I have also tried Dom's(?) method of hopping in a square path, but the scenery is not varied enough for me to use it very often.

Thanks to Dean for three Gemma,
    Quossum for a Papilio
    Dlstar for a Botulus,
    Moe416 for a Fractus,

Alphacookie for a Velatus and scenery,

and anyone else who sent gifts recently.

I finally finished Lanterna today. Will take a short break from dexing before starting my next breed.

    Good night to all. :)

Thank you Snappy, for the Lanterna... and I don't know who sent me the Favus (bad memory) but I'm guessing it's from adp so thank you as well! And thank you to everyone else who sent me a frog (somebody sent me a Foramen... but I cannot remember who)

I don't know if everyone has finished the Earth Day set but if someone has a spare Planeta to send it would make me super happy!! I can actually breed the other frogs in this set so I think it will be the first one I can complete :D I can send the Planeta back after, also (I think frogs are not taken away when completing a set, right? Trying to remember from when I used to play...)

I think gift discovery is dependent on ground covered - hopping in one direction, or following frog noses, or some other variant, will net more pond presents over time relative to flies eaten than bug-chasing or hopping in circles.

This morning I was wondering if hopping into the corners of the screen would work for those who prefer to travel north? A diagonal path, instead of true north? Haven't tried it tho.

Sent you a PLANETA. I have the rest of the set available if you would like it, they just need to be tamed. Frogs remain in your habitats after a set is redeemed, unlike request frogs. No need to return it.

    Take care.

I don't know about you, but when I switched over from plus to GC, I lost all my Pond Presents and Gifts Sent, but it kept my Flies Eaten so my measured efficency in present getting is now meaningless. The last time for which I have good numbers was September of 2011, when they were 28,659 presents for 362,288 flies or 12.6 flies eaten to get a present. I assume that's still my approximate average.
I remember then that Cygnet had an average quite close to mine (a little better, in fact!). See post #20702, where the reciprocals in percentages are given.

    I agree.

I have and for me at least it slowed me down - sometime there was a pad in the corner, sometimes there wasn't so I had to hop north - I couldn't get it to work.
I did come up with the zaniest solution, which was to turn the device 180 degrees and hop north:D.
I finally settled on learning to hop south.
