I would say.... um.... you can simply treat it as a no-brainer clicker and die early in the levels then gather score to unlock new monsters and play as a clicker again and again... totally no problem! Good to kill time when you are on a flight haha! But... you can also treat it serious, as Royce said, then survive like up to 90+ level (lol), luck doesn't matter a lot really! You are just like the commander, giving the big picture, and the teammates fight themselves. But really this can extend your survival many by levels. So I would say there're quite a lot tactics within PS lol I'm developer so forget what I say, listen to other awesome players
So what are everyone's favorite classes to use? Even with the recent nerf, I still really like the merman/trident keeper/pearl king. He can carry a weapon which is always a plus, even without an ice weapon, his attacks freeze (I think he's the only character capable of using weapons that has a proc regardless of weapon carried), and he's a nice balance of offense and defense. The peasant->Commander or Shield bearer line is also one I tend to use a lot. The huscarl/shield bearer is great front and center, and while I'm not as fond of the berserker branch it's good as a secondary offensive option. I also really like the druid/forest guardian and the ninja/dark girl, though I wish there were 5 star versions of them.
I like the Will-O-Wisp/Spook/Angry Specter tree. After the recent update it is strong against physical attacks, which is very useful against most of the enemies. Moreover, it has a fixed turn AoE. Just to watch out for freezing monsters so be sure to target the monster opposite to it first if bump into one. I liked werewolf and werebear before. They are pretty strong ready-to-go. However, they are animals that they cannot take weapons. Also, they cannot evolve! I like to have them first if they appear at team creation, then later replace them in the mid-game.
Er....and the werepig... Seems it is the only animal who can evolve? Don't know whether it is strong after evolution. Haven't tried. I like the animal series anyway.
I like foot soldier=> samurai => daimyo the most. They are all round. Also, Druid=> forest guardian can do aoe and heal, which is awesome
Haha true! But personally I like the berserker branch better. The buff can stack and the attack power is just crazy in the late-game. Actually there is a branch: Larva>Pupa>Giant Beetle>Insect Mutant in which Giant Beetle and Insect Mutant are game breakers. However Larva and Pupa are very Underpowered. I may do more testing and at least give them a more balanced stats in the future. You guys may want to try them out later too.
Just as you figured out, werewolf, werebear and werepig were designed to have higher stats at start. They are stronger than ordinary 3-star monsters. But their growths are limited as they cannot be evolved except werepig. But it is just an average 4-star after evolved. This is to compensate the very high stats at starts. Your strategy is right. Choose them first then seek for chances to swap them out later if you encounter some other better teammates.
I haven't really tried the wisp line since the update. I'll have to give it a go. I feel exactly the same about the hermit group animals. The werewolf, werebear, and wearpig/boar are great in early and mid game, but the inability to wield a weapon and the fact that they don't evolve past 3 stars (4 for the boar) and gain any abilities means they lose value later in the game. I will say that the werewolf's skill is among the best single target damage skills in the game (it's listed as 200% AP but actually does 300%). I would love to see evolutions added one day. It could even be done simply by recoloring the characters. Werebear could evolve into a dark brown 4 star grizzly werebear that is just stronger and then a 5 star polar werebear that could freeze targets for example. I also like the daimyo but I find it a tougher grind to get to him than some similar class trees. The foot soldier is only so so and the samurai is not much of an upgrade. I agree on the Druid/FG. It's awesome even though it maxes out at 4 stars. Id love to see a 5 star version though.
Haha!! Grizzly and Polar Bear!! Made my day lol... OK... I will consider that when it is the phase I add monsters! The ideas are great! Just afraid it will be overpowered as the teddy is very tough at 3-star... let me figure out how to assign the stats if they have higher versions later.
Yup the foot soldier needs to be given a good weapon. I noticed that the enemy foot soldiers are taking spikes. I felt that this character was pretty strong as its damage was high. Then I tried myself. What! It gave me a short sword as a start weapon! Haha but later on when you grind it. The daimyo is really awesome. I hope later we can have team positions swap.
That damn beetle lurk attack has ended more than a few of my strongest characters. The insect mutant is actually the only class that isn't in the dragonic order that I haven't seen yet. I hope it stays that way. Speaking of the dragons, there seems to be an issue with them in the encyclopedia. Only the fire dragon shows there for me, but I've seen at least 3 different dragons I think. Hey I know you're doing a lot so just keep up the good work. If you get around to it, it would be awesome.
Yup the index is currently buggy. I wish to make it so that you can see different stats at different levels later. But it will be less prioritised as I want to make the main game scene better first. But no worries, they will be fixed eventually!
Ok so a couple of things occurred to me on my latest run (still ongoing actually). I was cruising along with a killer team (Pearl King, Forest Guardian, and Paladin all around level 45 or so), and ran into a dark dragon. It one shot my paladin with its AOE (due to the paladin's dark weakness). That's fine. I should have targeted the dragon earlier but there was a dark knight across from my paladin who also posed a threat so I was banking on the dragon not using AOE. Anyway, the other 2 survived and we moved on. Fortunately we ran into another potential teammate between stages. It was a level 21 sharpshooter. Level 21, less than half of what the rest of my team was (also consider my team had all evolved several times, dropping levels each time), and less than half the level of my opponents. He didn't last long. Teammates offered should be at least within 10 levels of your team I think. Anyway, the sharpshooter died and my forest guardian died soon after. My pearl King fought on like a champ, soloing a couple of levels. Then I ran into an ice elemental, huscarl and commander. I killed the elemental and the commander, and it was just me and the huscarl. Due to my armor, the huscarl can only do 1 damage to me at a time. Unfortunately due to his armor, I can only do 1 damage per attack to him. So I switch to an axe with +65% max damage. Most of my attacks still do 1 damage. Every once in a while I hit for 10, 20, maybe 30 if I'm lucky. The huscarl also has 40% block. He has about 1200 hit points. I am still in the middle of this battle. I just want it to end but it won't. I think there should be a way to avoid these stalemate situations. Perhaps after some very long number of turns in a single battle, the chance of crit hits increases to like 50% for the player and enemies. Maybe even that wouldn't be enough (and might not be fair since it would give a big advantage to whoever can block or dodge), but it would certainly help a lot. Back to the battle with 750 hp to go... Edit: Made it through that battle, no new teammates offered between stages, on to the next, win the first fight, second fight is a huscarl, a shield bearer and a sage (None of them can harm me and I can't harm any of them except the sage, barely since it's resistant to ice, and Only between freezes it gets on me). Fml, this is a sign I need to quit for the night. At this point I'd even take a suicide button.
Wow...what an experience... Yes... the stalemate is headache... I did set max. DP for the monsters to prevent this. But unfortunately this still happens. I think this is a serious problem. I will prioritise a fix on this in 1.0.9 first. Thanks for your sharing! I will figure a way out!
Finally got the game, got to lvl 8 and switched apps for a bit then my run dissapeared =[ anyway what did other people get to there first run or two ?
