I don't care so much for a scoring system that you can compare online with your friends but the other purpose of achievements is to add gameplay and goals to the game. I like finishing up achievement so it feels like a fully completed the game and did everything I could do. I also don't care much for the competitive aspect of it, the glamour or the fact that you have paid your way into a higher gamerscore. The more games you can afford, the higher your gamerscore, it doesn't always represent how good you are. Achievements can also be lame, some too easy, some too hard and some pointless. But some can be very cool and creative, allowing too experience a different aspect of the game. Something like "Jump from the top of the castle into the well" is fun but "reach level 10" no so much.
Isn't getting to the next level an achievement in itself? After playing this game with the new experience system I'm watching out for when the next level up is - which makes it more fun to kill enemies. Oh and by the way - we decided to put some magic in the game - actually it will be integral to the game play. It had been sitting on paper for awhile, but after we finished the main story, we realized in order for it to work, there needed to be magic. I cannot tell you how this works or where it is in the game, but as you start your third quest you will learn how it becomes part of your character. Basically I made a proposal to Russ, and it came out really good, and now we just have to get it done. Theres alot of work on both sides - it should double the amount of game length too!
Oh wow you mean there wasn't any magic in this game before! Glad you made the suggestion and it was approved. Magic is needed for my rpgness
even a very basic magic is needed.. Not everyone wants to play as a plate wearing warrior or back stable leather wearing rog. some like to wear and dress and throw fireballs at things.. glad to hear it does have a magic system...not like i like to dress up in a robe and play with balls of fire.... ... ...but for the people that do your cup of tea is here!!!!
Cannot wait. Can I ask you something? Is 'life' in villages/town? I mean, wandering people, maybe a full scheduling for NPCs, day/night cycles? Do you get the impression of life ongoing during your errands? (Like in the Ultima series...more than Oblivion). Many thanks.
there was magic - but it was a different kind - magic amulets, potions, etc... now theres another system that we've added.
Josh, I think you shall use the death of Dungeon Hunter and release your RPG now. I know many RPG gamers (like me) who cannot play 2 or 3 RPGs at the same time. They need to play one RPG to the end, because otherwise they will get confused.
still no news on the female character... oh wellz, at least magic was integrated. I don't know about achievements since I played oblivion on my computer. I don't really care much for them in an rpg thats supposed to be full scale. Besides that I dont want achievements to dictate what I do next in the game. I hate it when I see an achievement in a game that says "get the awesome armor in this cave". Shouldnt you yourself be exploring the cave and happen to find it? Im sorry but to me the games about exploration, not achieving what your told to achieve. (or given a list too.) I dont mind them their, but please make all of them hidden until achieved if your going to add them.
Yeah that's totally right.. Why should a RPG player just play one RPG at one time? I play Hybrid and Dungeon Hunter at the same time, and they're both RPGs..
wow that was a super fast reply how long do you think, after the game has been submitted, before the expansion gets submitted, I cant really play a game with huge exploration just to restart my character cause he looks fugly...
I say take your time, if it comes out a month after Dungeon Hunter most people are going to be done playing it and ready to get into another RPG. I remember when Oblivion got delay for three months, from december to march and everybody was freaking out but when it came out, it was well worth it. It didn't really hurt the sales and there was nothing close to compete with it. I mean, these kind of games have gain the reputation for being buggy and having performance issues, Gothic, Morrowind, Two worlds etc.. It's really nice to see that magic has been added, and now double the game lenght?! So I'm guessing that with the main quest, side quests and now the additional content related to magic this game could very well be around 10 to 15 hours. Just guestimating...
Cool, I am one of those people who prefer to be the magic users in RPG's and I'm excited knowing I'll get my fill of fireball throwing fun.
hmmm I wish I could be an elf, i would be extra sneaky with lock picking and thievery major skills. or a vampire elf.
No,the dev have found a publisher and now are working on some improvements. There isn't an exact ETA.
