Again, name me a single ipad war game or rts game or even strategy game that has complex game mechanic and u cant learn how to play the whole game in less than 10 mins and isnt a board game? The pc has tons even popular ones like the total war series are all like that. Many pc gamers actually want to sit down with a game and learn how to play it like wprking or doing homework, because they dont look at it that way but look at gaming more thn just a hobby or a time waster but something to feel proud of.
Admit it, every single idevice gam is geared toward the lowest denimonator that even a kindergardener could play. Console games are just as bad most of the time its only the pc where real gamers play.
Ah fair enough then If you take a look around the App Store does have some quite deep games hidden down the charts. $0.99 games like Angry Birds are created because they are bought often and in great amounts. Indie devs don't have the budget to create anything more than this, we have to rely on the EA's and Square Enix's of the world to create these. If you want deep RPG's games like Chaos Rings and Ravensword will serve you well. Simpler RPG's like Zenonia 2 and Chronicles of Inotia are also a lot of fun. You need to remember that the iPhone is not a console, it doesn't have the capacity to cater for huge games like a PC/PS3/360. The audience for $20 games that are 5gb simply aren't around on iPhones.. People want on the go games and that is the most popular genre. If you want a bit more depth.. Well that is what Gameloft is for (While I must add the games are still made so they can be finished in short bursts of under 10 hours, but still good value for money).
totally agree. i also feel lucky i had not finished my game yet and i could escape from the really crucial Christmas War!
Thats one way of looking at it but i never bought new pc games and looked at things that way. Pc games unlike consoles go down n price real wuick, outside blizzard, especially used on amazon. You could get supreme commander or company of heroes for like 5 bucks now while a game with no online play or campaign called land air sea warfare always stas at $10.
But i mostly play on my ipad not iphpne, something which apple at one point marketed as a tablet "computer" not someting i feel like playing angry birds on or iphone ports but original games made for it like world of goo.
It has also been called an Oversized iPod. Looking at the features of the iPad, in it's current state it is far from a computer. Maybe the iPad 2 will bring more processing power and of course retina display, which will allow for better games. Of course the device needs the fan base before millions are poured into high budget games. The iPhone/iPod Touch has sold I believe something around 50 million units while the iPad only has about 8 million. At the moment it is smarter for developers to put games universally on both or only on the iPhone. There aren't many iPad exclusives, perhaps success with World of Goo might change that in the future but it will take time.
I am a "real gamer" - longer and better than you even can imagine, long before you ran around the x-mas tree in your diapers. I love PC and iOS gaming. You are an annoying, trolling brat. If you don't like consoles or iOS gaming - go back to your PC and stop this everyday whining and complaining. Haven't you noticed that most of the forum members doesn't take you for serious anymore?
Im just trying to play devils advocate in reality i dont understand why other portwble gamers and console gamers hate the idevices on sites like ign, kotaku, joystiq, etc. And dont think none of us are real gamers. But on the other i realize most games are too short, simple, and casual to attract them anyway. Even wargames like distant star or the recent viking war are simplified and casuals and its authors brag about it or advertise that fact. This just shows the kind of userbase apple created and caters to by making the deuces so simple to operate and use. Why cant we have a single europa universalis, commandos, or panzer generals like game without simplyfying the gameplay or play mechanics? Because the overly casual user base wouldnt be able to handle it. Unlike for pc where idevice style casual games dont even sellnor get noticed but hwrdcore games do. How much money would sega make if they ported any of theirtotal wars over withoutbmaking them casual? And keptbthe long tutorials?
Hey, it's kind of refreshing to have a PC snob around here (instead of the usual console/handheld snob). Personally, the only game I've found disappointing is Shadow Guardian, which i'm finding slow and clunky. The real surprise for me is Lara Croft: after the TA review I was expecting a mess. Instead I found a good port of a really great console game. It has a few issues, but it's still one of the better handheld games I've played this year. I did skip NOVA 2 and Battlefield Bad Company, so I can't speak to them. I've been playing Aralon for over a month, so it hardly feels like a new release. Sad Princess (which came out last night) and Dungeon Defenders I've played only briefly, but so far seem quite polished. The few races I've done on RR2 have been pretty intense (not sure where the "no sense of speed" view comes from. I'm quite curious about that new racer from te folks who made Postal Panic (forget the name), and I still haven't finished Eternal Resonance, DH2, and Lego HP, so I can't quite call the season disappointing. Not by a long shot.
Well - I seriously don't know. @ Stirolak: When you're so serious about all this - why don't you take your time, sit down and think a bit about all these wild theories you are spreading? Do you even know what you are demanding? Look... just a few years ago, no one could imagine what todays iDevices are capable of. But the iOS gaming is still at the beginning. There will be better and better devices soon, with more power, more memory, more of everything. The games will develop according to this progress. But right now, we see a lot of devs who are trying to tickle every bit of game improvement out of the recent devices. But these things are still moving in baby steps. Sure, we got close to other consoles meanwhile - there are quite some games which are even better on the iDevices than on the consoles. But the iOS gaming has just begun... not like the Nintendo systems, existing for more than 20 years right now. You're too young and without patience, I think. I watched the trend from the first consoles, like Atari and computers VC20 / C64 to the modern consoles XBox 360 and PS3 - and the PCs today. All these accomplishments haven't been made in 2 or 3 years. It took decades to bring electronic gaming up to the level as it is today. Also, I've never seen an iPhone where I can plug my Quadcore and my GeForce in. So, if you're want the PC feeling - go back to your PC... or wait 4-5 years until the iDevices are on todays PC standard in power. It's the same with the games... meanwhile, they made games like Aralon, Shadow Guardian, Eternal Legacy, Infinity Blade... a giant improvement to everything seen so far on the iDevices. Looking back just one/two years - todays games would be impossible to make, back then. And stop trying to take us for a ride. Every game is too easy, too casual? You're kidding, mate. You're just bragging. I can tell you dozens of games instantly, which have depth and are nowhere near casual titles; a lot of these games will seriously (I love this word now) kick your butt. I apologise for taking you seriously and will continue seeing you as a troll now. Thanks for your attention. Good bye.
Yeah I honestly like hook worlds. I only bought Aralon and Hook Worlds so I cant speak for the other games, but I'm completely satisfied with both. Aralon has some issues but it's updating to fix them. The update is waiting for review last I heard. The OP seems to think that all games for the iOS are going to be flawless and console quality, this is a very naive thing to think figuring consoles are easily more powerful than the idevices and console games have huge teams of people hired to test them, these small game developers do not have the luxury of large groups of professional testers.
And even with all those resources on the console side, you get games like Fallout 3: New Vegas, which are massively buggy and (according to reports) nearly unplayable.
Agreed. People are forgetting that bugs can be fixed relatively easily via an update on the iOS games but not on console/PC games.
