Remove the ads and I'll honestly be happy.

Without question, this game is well-crafted. I LIKE the game. I do. I appreciate the heart of the game. It's actually pretty awesome and brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. Unfortunately, the menus are a damned commercial-fest. I usually get at least 2 ads before I can get anything done. If I had a nickel for every time an ad slickly appeared at the perfect time for me to accidentally click it and take me for an undesired trip to the app store, I could have bought the game again. It just destroys the experience for me. The fact that this is actually a good game makes it even worse, because Id LOVE to enjoy this game at its core. Instead, it's just a mess of ads, IAP, and unwanted trips to the app store. Its impossible to get immersed in the game, because when I think about this game, the first thing I think of is the numerous annoyances, not the gameplay.

Let's evaluate your reponse, definitely the victim of failed reading comprehension.

Funny, my OP mentioned nothing about my gameplay abilities.
Then you even take a moment to brag and pat yourself on the back.
    Good for you.

Huh? Does this sentence even make sense?

The game only has 8-way firing controls with 3-way movement.

Jumping, also part of gameplay mechanics, is floaty, which sucks as described in my OP.
That's called my opinion and probably fact, not whining. Learn the difference.
I also appreciate games that pay "proper" homage to games I grew up with.

Actually a more polished game like the one this one's trying to be,
already has all the weapons included in-game. Need an example? Contra.
Then there's more childish name calling to make you feel better about yourself.

It's funny how I have over 100 5-star itunes reviews, yet voice negatively on one
and I'm in that group of... what did you call us? Instantly rage b*tchers.

I still don't understand what the big deal is with IAPs and ads.

The ads pop up once when you start the game, and its not even a stupid freemium game, its their own stuff. If you like our game why not check out the others we have made, nothing wrong with self promotion in a game that is really good.

IAPs, like all premium games that include IAPs are completely optional. They are there for people who want to cheat their way ahead, but anyone can play through the whole game without touching them.

Quite frankly I think that to say these features ruin the game is ridiculous. The game has great controls, a good variety of levels and bosses, a ton of content to unlock and survival modes for leaderboards. If one ad ruins the experience for you, how the hell can you stand watching TV, going to a movie, reading a magazine, or anything else in this day and age.

Short answer: Game rules, IAP optional, whiners whine.

I love how anyone who shares any negative opinions about games around here is automatically labeled a whiner. And then they are crucified for having such negative opinion.

Oh my lordy mastah I neva eva gonna disagree with the masses again!

Wake up. People have different opinions, and some people are bothered by things others aren't. I don't feel as though I should have to be bombarded by stores and ads when I buy a game. And it's pretty clear this game was created with a freemium mindset.

If people are enjoying this, great. But if some others want to voice their concerns about it after paying money for it, then they're entitled to.

Once you lock and unlock your device while playing, an ad will appear again, and it is NOT an ad of their other games. Per level, you can earn one gem, and sometimes 2. You have the option to view a Dream Zoo video to earn more gems. You have PAID for the game.
    GAMEPLAY rules, the game doesn't.

Really - Ive only seen destructopus ads...you have a point there if there are others.

I feel like I earn enough gems per level, rarely spend on health packs and save them up for gun or ability upgrades. Maybe some people die too much and need to buy more health packs, and if you only earn so many in a round thats too bad. I just got 4 in one round without having to even buy a health pack.

And again the main word there was OPTION. You do not have to watch any videos. Its not like the video pops up and forces you to watch it, its hidden away in the get more gems menu.

Devs are not going to stop putting the IAP option in games premium as there are idiots who go for it, but at least they keep it out the way and don't ram it down your throat the same way freemium games do. As long as it stays that way, why complain, its not hindering your game.

Agreed . I wish more developers released games like this at this price . We can play full blown handheld console type games at a fraction of the cost, we shouldn't whine so much about things like ads .

I couldn't possibly disagree with you more. If every game was an ad-fest like this one, I'd stick to console gaming. I pay for these games. Free games are supported by ads, this game is supported by sales and abundant IAPs....AND ads? Sorry, can't get on that wagon, wholeheartedly disagree.

    Me too.

The developer really does a disservice to the PAYING customers. I've completely stopped playing until either the game is updated or I realize it never will be, then I'll delete.

Comparing this to Contra is laughable due to the developers blatant abuse of ads and IAP.

Yeah totally agree. Good game riddled with ads and iap. Not what I want for a premium paid game.

I can't help how your post was written "This game is total garbage." "Avoid this trash like the plague!"

There are plenty, and I mean PLENTY, of games that I don't typically like the controls for. It's iOS and there's a ton of different control types and some take getting used to.

Gameplay ability was in reference to you complaining about only getting one life and not being able to buy anything after 10 plays. Like, I said sorry that you're not too great at the game...there I said it nicer. I was able to unlock the equivalent of two and a half guns after a midge more replays than that when completing challenges and doing perfect runs. Now, in survival, which is really fun, I can get 2-3 gems per play...more if I tried harder. About the lives: you're lucky you get the health bar to go along with it!!! On top of that, there's health pickups littered throughout all the levels...honestly it makes the game a tad bit too easy.

Oh yeah, you also said the controls were unreliable! I was assuming you were complaining about the the recoil which can be upgraded and how it affects you when you're hit. I also assumed you just didn't take enough time to get used to them. I played Contra plus other classic games, and I can easily say that the controls for this are on point. The floatiness has already been explained by the dev too. last thin, this game isn't even that fast paced!?!

Again, I can't help how your post came off. You also didn't really explain anything too much but told people, "This game is total garbage." "Avoid this trash like the plague!"

Hm, glad to hear these posts, I was considering getting it, but now, maybe at .99. Had no idea about the ads. Thanks for the info.

1.99 considered "premium" gaming. No wonder so much is wrong with the platform.

Most indies can hardly afford to eat, let alone continue making "premium" games.

Freemium: Free to play, ad supported, IAP used at developers discretion

Premium: Paid apps, user should not see ads for other products, IAP used at developers discretion

If a developer cant sell a full priced game and make money so they burden it with ads then they surely didn't price it well or shouldn't be in the game making business.

If I buy a full version of a game, yes, I insist on not seeing ads like the Freemium or free games employ.

At the very least the developer owes paying customers a notice that the game is ad supported. Right now we payed for an infomercial with a game buried deep inside it.

That's the issue, not the price.

HAHAHA infomercial with a game buried deep inside

There's 1 ad on boot up, then the game starts. How hard were you looking for the game?

I've said many times, people love to exaggerate for the sake of complaining. And you're parroting your own posts in this thread, is that what you like to do with your time? Plus I didn't even argue all that other crap anyway. How about reading before replying?

My point was that developers need to make enough money to support themselves and their business, essentially. 1.99 is NOT premium gaming except for maybe a tight budget teenager with minimum allowance. I did not say the ads or ok, but the IAPs from my experience with the game are just fine.. Does this warrant complaining for days on end? Sure, I guess. Does it sound ridiculous because you have nothing better to do apparently? Yes, unfortunately.

EDIT: whoops, sorry, TimeEggers, I confused u for the other guy who has been practically complaining since day1. Still, both our points stand I suppose but I believe the situation is only natural for small developers when people complain for the game exceeding a $1 price point and consider it "premium" gaming.

Despite what some may consider "obtrusive," many people, like myself, have been enjoying this game a good deal.

Fair enough, but I've seen ads on menus too. Not just at start-up.

My main point is simply if a developer is going to put ads in a game they're SELLING then they should let us know. I would have skipped this game completely had I known it contained BOTH heavy IAP use AND ads.

If $1.99 doesn't generate a profit then up the price, I would have played this game at $4.99 with NO ads.

Looking at the AppStore market free games are the ones most often ad supported, which I can fully understand and can live with since the game is free to start.

This game isn't free. What's the $1.99 buying me? It isn't no ads, sadly. Is it huge deal? No. Does it feel like a cheap shot? Yes, it sure does.

I can't imagine anything killing the mobile platform faster than ad supported PAID games. :(
