It actually plays very nicely on the iPad. I was really pleased.

When I first played Hook Champ I lost three days of my life. Just like that. I think I managed to eat and drink periodically. A bit.

im gonna stick my neck out and say this is far far superior to hook champ in almost every way.

SQH is much easier to get into as well.

In one of my chats with the hermit in the shop, he said something about volcano season. Possible hint at the upcoming endless mode?

Just discovered that when it was only out for a couple of countries, I managed somehow to get a highscores place with a crappy score. Helloooo gold crown.

wow, its great... really a recommendation!
Is there somewhere a tutorial or something like this for guys who havent played hookchamp!!? What are the whole hats thing about? How does one get good points (it seems that the time one need to finish a level plays only a minor role!?!) Thanks for any hints, guys!

    Keep hookin'

    yup. ;)

i don't know if there is any "deeper" tutorial anywhere but to your questions:
    1) the hats only play cosmetic roles, i.e. they are just for fun. and they give you an opportunity to spend the coins you've earned. so which hat you are wearing does not affect the gameplay at all.
    2) both time and coins have a part in your points. for beginners it's more important to get the coins i'd say but to get a top score you will have to get all the coins in a level the fastest possible way. what really helps with collecting coins is the "grabber" upgrade from the shop. it will make it easier to collect them as you will only need to be in the vicinity of a coin to grab it instead of being right on top of it...

Thanks for all the feedback guys! It really helps us test when we are able to keep in mind what the consumer wants as well.

Trust me. The intended characters will be awesome.

Clearly not many people have reached the lava levels yet. Two top 5 scores are mine!

I might be crazy, but why did you mention that twice? If you don't want to get it, you don't have to get people's attention beforehand by annoucing that you won't get it.

Nobody called you cheap. I've spent well over a thousand dollars in the App Store, so I understand the need to be frugal.

The guy that called Rocketcat a greedy developer, however, is a moron.

In traditional markets, this may be true. The App Store is anything but traditional. There's nothing like this market anywhere, and it's actually blazing trails for how other markets will operate in the future. Throw out your Marketing 101 book.

This just makes no sense. I don't even know how to respond to this.

$10 or $15 dollars for a piece of high quality software DOES sound just fine. In fact, there's already games on the App Store at those price points now. And it's STILL cheaper than the majority of software on comparable devices. Console games are $60 because it can take MILLIONS of dollars to produce them. iPhone games are no different, they take time, effort, and money in order to produce, and therefore need to be sold for a price. That price can somehow miraculously be as low as $3 for something that has the potential to give you endless hours of entertainment. Video games do not grow on trees.

How would you feel if you went to work, busted your ass for 8 hours, did a phenomenal job, and at the end of the day your boss says "you know, I know you're supposed to make $100 today, but that's not worth it. So here's what I'll do, I'll give you $10 instead". Now somebody who has no idea the personal effort you put into your performance is deciding how much it's worth. YOU know how hard you worked, YOU know you probably should earn even MORE than $100 for the stellar job you did. But no, you get $10. That's a slap in the face, and it happens on a daily basis on these forums.

You're wrong, NOBODY has to complain about the prices. Don't try to make it sound like you're some kind of consumer savior. I'll give you two options of what the App Store will be like in the future:

    1) People realize what an amazing time it is to be a gamer, and how comparatively cheap games are to buy for their little iPhones. They have no problems ponying up a few bucks for a bit of fun, and we all live happily ever after playing awesome games until our thumbs wear away.

    2) Developers realize that the rock bottom pricing trend of the App Store is not a sustainable form of income, and stop making games for it because it's flat out not worth it. Soundboards and fart apps flourish.

Which road do you think we're heading down right now?

Dear Kepa: Please consider not having sales of any kind on future games, I just don't think it's worth the backlash. Special hats are cool, but if you really want to reward your fans just keep on making awesome games. Take Illusion Labs for example, they never have sales, and in fact their foosball app is the first time they've ever even had an "introductory price", and they are doing pretty well for themselves I think.

P.S. putermcgee, I apologize if it seems like I'm singling you out. And I guess that I kind of am. But I'm more talking about the attitude towards App Store pricing in general, and you're not the first to bring it up. But I guarantee you that if it continues on like this, you'll look back and be just BEGGING to be able to get amazing games for $3 as you download Bejeweled 2 for $20 on your PSPgo.

    /stupid rant

I was about to say what Boardumb said but... he beat me to it. The AppStore is nothing like other markets, the same rules don't apply. Sales have negligible impact on income so a better method is to build up hype before release, send out the game at a price anyone can afford and get those fans behind your new game as fast as possible. Kepa's been 100% honest about his pricing strategy so far and really that's all you can ask. If someone spends their own time and money working on a game and wants to sell it for $3, who are you to call them greedy? It's totally within their right to decide on a price and stick to it and perhaps more importantly, it's a fantastic price for a game as lovingly crafted as this.

    I'd totally buy one too.

After reading all 32 pages, I think I'm going to have to get this game. I never played Hook Champ, but I can't pass up on exclusive content. :D
