But I don't want my scrolls burned! A shield is out in the open. I keep my scrolls in my pants - they won't burn!

    Can I get a scrolls-in-pants exemption?

Thing is, there are a lot of fire traps. They're all over. I'd lose everything in minutes. Are there any flame-resistant magic items? I haven't come across any yet.

An exploding chest blew up my map for that particular floor section.

    Lol.

And a Black Orb I have randomly absorbed a random bright flash of light that a random pile of rubble shot at me.

    More lol.

Yeah, there's the Dragonscale shield. It's usually at the bottom of the dungeon, though. ;)

Don't worry, I'm still working on the balance, assessing the numbers. I know how many traps, items, chests etc. are generated for the whole dungeon. I'll keep it fair. But you guys know it... traps aren't as dangerous as they *should* be, really. How often does a trap kill you? It just soaks some HP, you walk around a bit and you're good as new. So now you'll want to use detect traps, sneak, wand of opening etc. to investigate those rubble piles a bit more before you step in them. You don't have to step into every potential trap, you know! Nor should you. Sometimes you have to just let it go... like the holy grail at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. ;)

I DO step into every trap, then shrug it off, maybe pop a Heal potion for good measure. :p

EDIT: Really really like this game. So much to discover. A few days ago, I read in this thread that the Light spell lets you see the runes that indicate a secret door, totally hadn't discovered that on my own. I had discovered a secret door on floor 2, but hadn't realized that I could see it thanks to the Light spell. I also have a Wand of Striking and Wand of Opening but neither have been useful at all yet. Maybe I just need to experiment with them more.

I'm actually liking this idea a lot.

I previously read the issue regarding balancing the HP when leveling up (i.e. on the higher avatar levels the wand of striking is pretty useless) - has this been addressed in the update coming this week or will that be sorted next time?

    Thanks,
    The Womble

Haha, and I was worrying that you were adding in Nymphs and Leprechauns. At least Fire Traps are immobile...

    ....

Oh crap, does this also apply to Dragonfire? :O

Speaking of Dragon fire, I was just simply WIPED OUT on floor 13 (my personal best) by the combined attack of TWO dragons (acid and fire) while something or someone created around me some strange pink fog (never saw it before).
That was some minutes after I had a really great and epic moment...to me anyway...probably standard fare for you Fargoal veterans.
I found a secret door leading to a small chamber with a cool pedestal in the centre, guarded by THREE Wyverns wich I easily slain.
Over the pedestal there was a supercool black orb.
At least to me, it was a really cool moment in the game.

    Back to level 1...sigh...

    BTW...how do I use wands?
If I tap on them I get the icon in the upper right corner...I tap but nothing happens.
Same if I double tap on my avatar.

I adore secret doors, whether I have a light spell or not. These are one of my favorite items in the game now that I am constantly on the alert for them.

Tap and hold on your character until you see the message "you take aim with..." or something to that effect. Then drag your finger to whatever you want to zap, there'll be a little guide line so you'll know if it'll work or not.

    Ideas

Hey Madgarden, long time lurker, first time commenter.

About the new traps: I'd love it if the traps were tougher. I barely even bother to avoid them until about the 15th level, they rarely do enough damage to notice. Traps should be serious business. What they shouldn't be is so common. All the time I walk into a 3x3 room and there are 3 or 4 traps in there. It's like there was a sale on traps, buy 1 get 4 free or something. Here's my proposal: 1/5 the number of traps, 5x the hit. Boom. And I know that currently they are randomly distributed with the exception of spiral rooms and the like, but it would be better if they were concentrated in corridors, at entrances to room, esp. treasure type rooms. I know that requires more coding than just adjusting trap frequency and damage, but it's something to think about. You mentioned fire traps burning scrolls, but don't forget pit traps breaking your potions. Right now falling in a pit trap isn't a huge deal if you can climb back up, and because of that drift spells aren't that necessary. But if you fall on your potion case.... Also on the subject of random placement, I guess I'd rather see a de-empahsis on finding random awesome loot on the floor and more on getting it from humanoid monsters. They already give some loot, but maybe that could be increased at the expense of less floor loot.

Also, love the dragon hoard. Is there a bottom to it? Once on legendary I went back three times to fill my suddenly inadequate bag until I got flamed from the darkness by four drakes at once. I'd love to see one or two more instances like this. Perhaps a temple full of monks, a lycanthrope lair (werecats, -bears), thieves lair, etc.

One last idea, probably won't work: an adventurer. A one time per dungeon encounter with another adventurer. He's got level appropriate HP, loot; and he knows how to use it. He'll use all his shields, teleports, potions, etc. The only problem is you really couldn't have him be 100% out to kill you like normal creeps or it'd just be too difficult. You'd have to come up with a new AI for creatures that don't attack 100% of the time. I'm thinking about the skeleton from Rogue; totally scary, but awesome loot.

Oh, and can you make the Minotaur tougher? Even on legendary, I took him out with only two shield spells.

    Thanks!

The HP balancing will be addressed in the next major update, which should be (barring bugfixes etc.) the one after 1.3. That's when there will be new playable DLC characters, a bunch of expansions to the dungeon and monster roster, etc. So it's a nice way to get people to start a new game with the new characters and adjusted rules.

Yeah, see above... the wand of striking is a bit weak currently, but that will be fixed in the next big update. If Fargoal 1.1 was "Fargoal 2.0" then this next update will be 3.0. That sort of majorness. :)

Oh, does it ever. Burn baby, burn.

Oh yes. Have no fear. Or rather, have fear. Next time you encounter the minotaur, you won't be staying for tea... OR scones. Or crumpets. Have you ever had those? They're good with butter. Unless you're DEAD. You know, from a minotaur or something.

I've had this game on my "Wantz" list almost since I got my Touch earlier this year, but kept putting it off and putting it off. When it was free for a day, I finally grabbed it. I just tried it for the first time today, and it may now be my favorite iGame of all the stuff I've tried. May buy it for the wife's account just to shuffle some money towards the dev. I knew it was good based on what others have said. I just didn't realize it was one of the best done games available. Wow. Love it, love it, love it.

I'm playing on Hero. If I get the sword a couple of times on that, I'll move up to Legendary but not before.

bluewomble88, I think I found your "trapped on level 27" problem you must have landed in a centipede map, eh? There are usually no stairs in those. That's why you were trapped with just the pit rope. Fixed for the update.
