Even if I perfectly know that I'll die EVEN MORE, I'm really liking these suggestions.

I particoularly like the idea of 'themed' floor...like a temple full of priests doing their evil stuffs (chanting, dragon summoning, evil praying), Dragon hoards, throne room with king and minions...something like that.
I know this kind of game is all for randomness but maybe it's manageble...the most incredible thing about this game I found (at least for my tastes) is that despite randomness there is an invisible link that bring everything togheter...I'm not really able to explain this, but sometimes, especially on lower levels, everything seems like it has been handpicked (just to let me die even more, rest assured).

Had a great time reading up on all the adventures going on since the Fargoal team boldly offerred everyone a chance at this adventre... for free!:eek::eek:

Hearing the the in app purchases getting closer is very exciting! Can't wait to see the goods for myself.

Myself? After a break due mostly to hearbreak over the number of failures I've had, took Santo version 163 back down to the teen levels. This time For Sure!!!! And as a personal favor... can you please not make legendary any harder til I finally at least SEE the Sword? Just once? :p

thanks for the tips in early post mrs madgarden, shumby and others :)
now i'm on the floor 8(level 7),exploring all the explorable...and since my post of yesterday i'm died just one time...now i have a dozen of healing potions, teleports, shield spells and a lot of other things... it's a lot easier now!
last time i died was....great. i had just a quarter of energy and there was a gargoyle that attacked me, i escape through a tunnel in the wall, first thing i thought was somekind of "i'm save now.." BUT,behind the passage there was a room with a swordman and a troll! that of course attack me...and the result was the 15th time i died and the last since quite a long time :)

Paul and I have talked about the themed rooms quite a bit, actually. I love the idea too! I think themed rooms would go nicely with side quests that you could choose to do if you like.

I would love themed floors. Especially if you had a few surprises in there and kept them pretty rare. It would really increase the replay factor.

One thing I adore about Nethack is the real sense of progression that comes with the different areas of the game. Fargoal is different but there could be certain themed floors you're more likely to see at certain depths or something like that.

Also, at the moment with the holes in the walls, we experience many different feels on one floor. Would it be an idea to restrict that for some floors? So that, even with the holes and moving from one map to another, it feels like one big sprawling maze. It just might make it feel a little more special when moving to a different type of environment. I don't know.

    Seems GREAT to me.

    (Floor 14...WOOOOOT!!!!!)

I'm TEMPTED, as soon as I manage to AT LEAST see THE SWORD, to start a game in LEGENDARY MODE.

Where can I read the differences between the HERO mode?

I have to admit that permadeath add a new sense of dunger that really suit the game, even more because whenever I died it was always my fault (so I do not yet find it frustrating)...usually because I felt unstoppable and continued playing even with low HP, not having the patience to regenerate in a temple or hiding in a corner.

Is there a way to identify objects to get a precise sense of what they do?
I found that black orbs absorb light offensive spells (super cool :) ) but I do not have any idea of what a Dragon Eye does (I have two of them).
Well...maybe I'm dumb but I have yet to understand what 'light' does...I cannot see any further than without it, nor it seems to show me secret doors.
Is there any object againt poison?

Sorry for these many questions all in a hurry...I'm a super newbie and I write in work spare time full of enthusiasm :)

We already have theme rooms, haven't you ever gotten caught in a centipede lair? :p

Seriously, centipede lairs terrify me. o_o

  8. Legend mode is a triple-patty Hero with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mustard, ketchup, pickles, and Belgium.

Not in game (pretty sure) but post here and get help if you like.

Dragon's eye lets you sense invisible creatures. Two gives this sense greater range.

Light does give you extra range in clearing the 'mist'. It also does show you secret doors but you have to be right next to them. They're not all that common but there'll be a symbol on the wall. When you see it you won't miss it.

Great responses, guys. Lots of good ideas flying around, and we are listening very closely. :) Definitely expect more themes and special, unique discoveries to come. Still working on the update currently, but it's wrapping up very nicely. :)

Cast a light spell when you are near a blitz beetle as well, and see what happens! :)

  15. Belgium is a gratuitous sort of place. It's also great on a burger.

It was submitted, but then Paul realized he wasn't wearing any pants when he did, and that's bad luck, so he pulled it to resubmit fully clothed.

    Exactly!

Wobblez, I am not submitting an unfinished update. END OF LINE. I can't help it if you're all OCD about it. :p

Hi all, great little game you got here. I'm really stuck into it.

I'm not sure if this has been proposed already, but there is one particular aspect I liked from Final Fantasy IV remake (for DS) with its approach to auto-mapping. Basically, every dungeon floor had a percentage counter (to show how much of the current floor is mapped out) and when you hit 100% you're automatically rewarded with an item such as a health pot.

Mapping out floors was strangely enjoyable already, but that extra little reward made it something special.

Anyway, great work guys! I look forward to all upcoming updates.

If you mean the colour of the actual stairs you go down, the only difference I know of is that the green ones go down to a crypt-type map with lots of spectres and skeletons. The rest are all regular colour and go to 'normal' maps.

    More thoughts

    Couple of things:

When I see the mage now, I'm like, CHARGE, because killing him fast is the best thing. The problem is, it should be more like RUN! So how about 1) I shouldn't have any spell that he doesn't have, so the mage should be able to cast fireball, light, Regenerate, Sleep. 2) some classic D&D style spells, like Slow, Haste, Hold, Polymorph (Self? Other?), Ice storm, acid arrow, mirror image! (that would be awesome!) I'd love to see the mage transform into a fyre Drake, or make a duplicate image of himself, or use telekenesis to steal my sword. Well, not really, that'd p*ss me off, but you get the idea.

The minotaur is the master of the Maze, so perhaps a howl that causes you to lose your map? An axe that cleaves shield spells?

And speaking of cleaving shields, is the damage to shields on hitting seperate from regular damage? That way things like humanoids could damage shields more and monsters less. I'm thinking dwarven axes, troll bones, ogre clubs would do increased damage to shields and wolf claws, centipede pincers would do less. Also this could reinvigorate the wand of striking, as it would do huge damage to shields, making it key to killing all those War Shielding Warlords (hate those guys).

I'd also like to put forth the idea that fireball wands need a bit more. Back in the day, 2nd ed D&D, I blew up my entire party in a small room with a fireball. It was described to me by the DM as, "Imagine casting fireball as throwing a bundle of dynomite." So what if the radius of fireball was much bigger, and did even more damage? Like the radius of sleep? Great for taking out centipede rooms. And perhaps, and this would take a new mechanic, adding lightning bolt? It would shoot out and bounce off walls like crazy. Dangerous, and damaging. Because who would let off a lightning bolt in a small room? A Madman, that's who.

And have you had any thoughts about expanding weapon enchants? In my opinion, I'd rather they would only be temporary, to stick with the mode of the game, where it is all about consumables.
